Introduction
Working with and leading people are an essential issue or topic for all business
students. This topic instructs how to lead efficiently. In this assignment I apply my
knowledge expanded from this component on City link a popular delivery company. City
link is the leading delivery organization of UK that successfully operates in UK and more
above the world since 1969. It makes yearly revenue more than 320m which
constructs City link the promoted leader of this field (City Link, 2014). I talk about the
city link`s selection, recruitment and retention procedure and about its operational
culture.

Human resource is an important issue of every association. The achievements of every
association depend on innovative, skilled, committed and creative labor force. So every
association pays their concentration on their work force or human resource. Because of
all association like to get creative labor force, innovative and skilled; the recruitment,
selection and retention process is especially essential for every business. The
enrollment of new associate necessitate different document, requests to obey unlike
statutory rule, go beyond a chronological process of assortment etc. Primarily the
recruitment, selection, retention processes are the responsibilities of human resource
division of an association. The human resource division of an association prepare
necessary document to choose new associate, take part in assortment process by

consideration to the recruitment and selection process and the impact of legal
regulatory, the process of taking part in collection process and my own input to the

administrators. The human resource department of City link wants to prepare the

the workings have to be done and actions concerned with the position. The human

Leadership or guidance is very essential responsibility of managers. A manager is a
leader and a leader also can be a manager. A leader can lead more important role than

a manager can accomplish. There are many kinds of leadership. Every types of
leadership or guidance have some positive and negative impact on leadership or
management. City link is going to expand their network and increase their workforce by
forming a new partition or division. This part of the assignment regarding leadership
styles essential for this new partition or division, types of quality essential for that leader
and special motivational technique.

AC 2.1 Whether the person has the qualities or traits of manager or


leader
City links Board of directors make a decision to open a new partition or division to
increase their workforce and expand their network. They also provide work for a person
who takes the all the duties of the new partition or division. Now the issue comes
whether the person has the qualities or traits of a leader or manager. In normal view the
person must have the qualities or traits of a leader. The argument for why the person
must have the qualities or traits of leader is given below:
The person is in charge for a new partition or division. If the person has the
qualities or traits of a manager only, he will not be able to continue the
division effectively; he will also need to lead the division.
The leader has the qualities or traits of leader as well as the manager.
Because if a person has not any managerial capability, he will not be a
manager. But the leader has some unique traits which help to continue the
new partition or division more effectively.
The person should have the qualities or traits of leader because he has to
guide the partition or division besides manages the partition or division to
profitability.

excellent and the answerable person of the new partition or division should follow the
democratic leadership approach to lead the new partition or division.

paternalistic leadership no member of staff is given autonomy, all assessment is taken
by the managers. But in actual case member of staff claim autonomy and they want to
get part in decision-making-process. So, the style of paternalistic leadership is not
appropriate for city link`s new partition or division. In the style of laissez faire leadership
all staffs are assessment maker. So, it makes clash amongst the member of staff for the
reason that the manager does not cooperate any part in decision making. The style of
Laissez faire leadership is not appropriate for new division. So, I can fulfilled that the
style of democratic leadership is most excellent for city link`s new partition or division.

AC 2.4 The ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives


There are various style of motivational approaches for inspiring staffs to attain
objectives of association. Those are Maslows hierarchy of need theory, X & Y theory
and two factor theory. City link be supposed to use Maslow`s hierarchy of need theory
