1 INTRODUCTION

This KISTERS License Manager based on X-Formation LM-X technology is used for floating license of various KISTERS products like 3DViewStation and its integration components.

This documentation is for administrators who have to install or maintain the KISTERS License Manager and corresponding client license files.

2 INSTALLATION

The KISTERS License Manager is delivered as a ZIP file containing setup, documentation and other components.

This ZIP contains the following files:

- the MSI for installing the LM-X License Manager and/or the End User Tools

lmx-enduser-tools_v4.4.9_win32_x86.msi

- needed during setup

liblmxvendor.dll

Send by mail:

network.lic

The network license file created by KISTERS which is typically delivered within a separate mail from Kisters. This network.lic file must be stored within the same directory where your License Manager is installed.

2.1

Preliminaries

The License Manager handles all the communication via TCP and UDP port 6200 by default. To verify if port 6200 is not already in use by another process please verify this by processing the following steps:

Open a DOS / command shell and execute the command: netstat -a

a DOS / command shell and execute the command: netstat -a Figure 1: netstat -a check

Figure 1: netstat -a check if 6200 port is already in use

Check the output: If there is an output line containing 6200 a different port has to be used (e.g. 6201) to serve the license server. Therefore the entry TCP_LISTEN_PORT in the lmx-serv.cfg file has to be changed to the new TCP.

Attention: The UDP port 6200 is used for network broadcast to enable clients to automatically find the license server. This port can not be changed! => If there is the need to change the TCP port (because it is already in use by another process) this will require setting of the LicenseServerAddress inside the client license file, see also 2.4.

Kisters does not recommend to use automatic server retrieval by network broadcast.

2.2 LM-X License Manager and End-user Tools setup

Extract the ZIP locally to a path like “c:\tmp\LM-X License Server 4.4.9 Setup”.

Start “lmx-enduser-tools_v4.4.9_win32_x86.msi” and follow these steps to setup up the server:

Before you click “Finish” copy the “network.lic” received by mail to the installation path you did choose for the setup. Check “Start LM-X license server” to start the corresponding service on setup exit. This setup has installed a new service for the Kisters License Manager with automatic start option.

Open the log file to verify the license server is started and working normally, indicated by the line “Ready to serve…” as shown in the following example:

If there are any problems running the license server, the log file will indicate the cause of the problem. If you cannot find a log file, check the configuration files LOG_FILE parameter.

By using the Windows Service Manager you can restart the service or change additional settings like running the license server by a different users account.

2.3 Firewall settings on the license server

Enable the program lmx-serv.exe to process incoming and outgoing communications via TCP und UDP by adding corresponding rules to e.g. the Windows firewall:

2.4 Client license file

In addition to the network.lic license file for the license server Kisters typically delivers a second licence file for the client applications. Those client license files are typically named like 3DVS.lic or 3DVSAX.lic. You have to place them in the client installation directory.

To check if such a client license file is intended to be used with a license server the parameter Floating must be set to 1.

By default the client starts a broadcast within the network via UDP port 6200 to find its license server. This could take some extra time during the start and also can be blocked by firewalls.

Therefore KISTERS recommends adding this parameters to the client license file pointing to your license server:

~LicenseServerAddress=Port@[Servername |Server IP]

Examples:

~LicenseServerAddress=6200@licsrv

~LicenseServerAddress=6200@192.168.12.50

~LicenseServerAddress=6200@192.168.12.50 Figure 5: Client license file This additional entry to the

Figure 5: Client license file

This additional entry to the client license file will not affect the license signature.
