1. Introduction

Thisinstallation manual coverstheinstallation oftheGenXMobile5pDevice.Thismanual isfor

theprofessional installer andshouldbeusedtoensureasafeandfunctionalinstall ofthe5p
Device.

2. Safety statement

***Always disconnect thevehicle battery whileinstalling thisoranyother automotiveelectronic

product.

Thisproduct isconnected directly tothevehicles 12volt system. Thereisnoonoffswitch ontheunit.

Theinstalledunitoperates 24hoursadayand should beenergized tologvehicle eventsorsenddataas
required byanyoneusingtheservice.

The5PDevice isshipped withinline3amp fuse(s) attached tothepower cable.Thisfusemustbeinstalled

ascloseaspossible totheprimary 12volt source connection. Thefuseprotects thepower cableshould
therebeashortinthe cablebetween thefuseandthemodule. Thisfusemustbeinstalled properly. Ifthe
fuseisreplaced, itshould beofthesametypeasoriginally supplied fromthefactory.Theoriginal fuse
supplied isa3amp125volt type3AG.

Failure tousetheproper fuseortoinstallthefuseintherecommended location couldcauseavehicle

firehazard.Thefuseprovides overload protection forthepower cableandGenX5pDevice.Thewiring
installed betweenthefuseandprimary vehicle power isnotprotected fromoverheating ifashort
should occur. Usecare whenroutingthepowercableandfuse.Routethecableswheretheywillbe
protected anduses commonlyaccepted install practices for aftermarket automotive electronic devices.

Therearetwoacceptable methods ofmakingawireconnection:Soldering yourconnections or

using crimp connectors (withtheuseofthepropercrimping tool).Regardless ofthemethod you
choose, ensurethatconnection ismechanically soundandproperly insulated.

3. Selecting the GenX 5p Device Location

4. Antenna Description

4.1 External Antenna

The5pdevicetypicallyusesoneantenna. Theantenna isforreceiving GPSsignalsfromthe
Navistar GPS satellites andforcommunication withthecellular networks. Theantenna doesnot
requireaground planetofunction properly.

5. Locating Vehicle Power

The5pdevicehasaninternal power management programthatmonitors thevehiclepoweratall

times. Themanagement program iscontinuously looking atthecondition ofthevehiclebattery in
ordertodetectthestateofthevehicleoperation. Themoduledetermines thestateofthevehicle
power bydetecting changesinthebatteryvoltage overtime.Itiscriticalinthisinstallation that
thevehiclepower betakenfromasourceasclosetothebatteryaspossible. Possible sources
besidesthedirect connection tothebatteryarethemainfuseblock panelorthepoint wherethe
vehiclecharging circuits areconnected tothe12volt system.

Connect theREDleadorfuseendofthepower cableto+12voltconstant vehicle power.Connect

6. Powering the GenX 5p Device for the First Time

Connect thetwo coaxorFAKRA cablesfromthecomboantenna securely, thenconnect thevehicles 12volt

power totheredwireonharness, nextconnect theblack wireontheharness toconstant ground, then
connect whiteignition wireonharnesstoignition,finallyturnvehicle ignition onandobservetheDiagnostic
TestLEDs.

Note: Power,Ground andIgnition arealways required foroperation ofthe

GenX 5pDevice

7. System Testing

The Diagnostic LEDs will indicate if the GenX mobile device is having issues with
communication, GPS fixing and more. It is also recommended that the data server be checked to
confirm that report data is arriving.

Red LED
The RED LED flashes 2digit codes. Roughly speaking the first digit tells you what general area is
having a problem (hardware, modem, GPS, endend service). The second digit gives specific error
information. Since there can be more than one error condition the GNX rotates through the error
codes (for example if GPS is tracking no satellites and the modem is not registered).
