Introduction to Library Management System

Library Management System consists of list of records about the management of the
details of students and the issues going on and also about the books it stores. This is a web-based
application. The project has three modules namely- Students, Administrator, Librarian.
According to the modules, the system can manage the activities of the users in an efficient
manner.
As the modern organizations are automated and computers are working as per the
instructions, electronic commodity and computers becomes essential for the coordination of
human beings in a modern institution.
The administrators and all the others can communicate with the system through this
project, thus facilitating effective implementation and monitoring of day-to-day activities of the
library in the institution.
2. Aims & Objectives
The aim of this project is to develop a system that can handle & manage the activities
involved in a library in an efficient & reliable way. Less managing personnel & easy searching
availability & user profile managing are major goals in this project

Objectives
Develop a system that can replace the manual library managing system.
Develop a database which stores user details & book details.
Give reliable search facility for the users.
Administrator, librarian & users should have separate logins.
Create an easy to understand user friendly environment.
Attractive user interfaces to navigate through the system for the users.
Develop the system documentation with detailed UML specifications

Feasibility Study
The Library Management System will be used to overcome the problems arising because

of the manual operations and to automate the process of library management.

Following steps we have followed for feasibility study:

Identify the origin of information at different levels(users, admin or staff)

Identify the expectation of user from computerized system viewpoint
Analyze the drawback of existing system(manual or semi-automated system)

2.1 Team Structure

I evolved with a democratic team structure as I believe a group of engineers can invent
better solutions than a single individual or as in a chief programmer team. Also it leads to higher
morale and job satisfaction.
Our team structure resembles the following figure:

Conclusion
Getting completed with the project, we are sure the problems in the existing system

would overcome. The LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM process made the traditional
library system computerized to reduce human errors and to increase the efficiency of library
activities. The main focus of this project is to lessen human efforts. The maintenance of the
records is made efficient, as all the records are stored in the SQL database; the retrieval of data
is easy. The navigation control is provided in all the forms to navigate through the large amount
of records. If the numbers of records are very large then administrator just has to type in the
search string and the results are generated immediately. The editing is also made simpler. The
user has to just type in the required field and press the update button to update the desired field.
The Books and Users are given a particular unique id no. As a result, their data and
records can be accessed correctly and without any error. The main aim of the project is to get
the correct information about a particular user and books available in the library.
The problems which existed in the earlier system have been removed. It is expected that
this project will go a long way in satisfying users requirements. The automation of the Library
Management will not only improve the efficiency of the system, but will also reduce human
efforts thereby indirectly improving human recourses.
