KTC PRESENTATION & PRIMER REPORT

*Primer should be a report version of your KTC


presentation. The only difference is point 3 TRADE, it is to
be excluded from the presentation but included in report.

a) What it is, what it is mainly used for, what variants/grades is


it found in, details on those variants/grades (major
ones) (Do not go into great detail for its uses in this section.
Leave some for Demand analysis)

b) Processes involved (Refining, end products etc.)

c) Contractual specifications (Density for crude oil, Moisture


level, tolerance limits etc.) and their meanings

2.Demand and Supply

a. Major demand centers for the commodity


i. What are the demand factors?
ii. Top few importers and consumers (Countries) (Note:
Importers and Consumers may be different)
iii.Geographical distribution of demand iv. Current demand levels
& Future demand levels
b.Major supply regions
i. What factors influence growth of the commodity, inhibit/prohibit
trade E.g. export/import laws
ii. Top few exporters and producers (Countries)

NOTE:
Brief description of the commodity should be kept minimum (Max
5-10 mins per presentation) Focus should be on current events
and market forecast (Refer to sections below)
c. Industry Overview
i. Main players (Main producing or mining or consuming
companies, main traders etc.)
ii. Transportation (What vessels, routes, railroads mainly used)
iii. Distribution

3. Trade
a. Major exchanges for the commodity
b. Most actively traded benchmarks (E.g. WTI, Brent for Oil,
Platts IODEX for Iron Ore etc.) (Note: Discuss how it brings
about price discovery) (If possible, discuss briefly the
methodology behind these indices)
c. Derivatives and Financial Instruments (eg. Swaps, futures,
options)
d. Brief introduction on trading strategies relevant to your
commodity (eg. Trading crack spread for crude oil)

4. Price Trends & News


a. Observe trends from historical news (need not be that recent)
and resulting price movements (eg. China GDP and Industrial
Production Rates affect steel and iron ore prices)
b. Short term and Long term forecast in the future

What is YOUR view on the future of the supply and demand of


the commodity?
Briefly mention how it might affect price in short term and long
term
Note: Back it up with news and reports and discuss the impacts
of such shifts in S&D
