Level:Intermediate, 2 hours/week
Grade : 7th
Number of students: 15
Unit of learning: 4 COLOURS
Topic: Vocabulary associated to colours
Time: 50 minutes
Objectives : By the end of the lesson students should know:
1. to talk about colours
2. to use ish suffix
3. to associate colours to different things
Assessment activity: The students will be assessed on class
participation.
Skills: reading , speaking , listening , writing
Resources and materials: textbook, blackboard , CD-player, flashcards

Activity 1: WARM-UP
Aim: to warm SS up
Timing: 5 minutes
Interaction: T-S, SS-T
Procedure: Two cards for each student, red and white.
Teacher reads some sentences. If what the teacher says is true they
should show the white card, if its not true they should show red card.
Those students who show the wrong card have to turn in the cards.
The winner is the last student who stays in the game.
Examples of sentences:
1. Pears are blue.
Dogs are green.
2. Cherries are red.
Crows are black.
3. Apples are black.
Mice are yellow.
4. Plums are blue.
Cabbage is pink.
5. Strawberries are red.
Celery are green.
6. Oranges are white.
Lettuce is green.
7. Pineapples are blue.
Pumpkins are purple.
8. Watermelons are red.
Tomatoes are yellow.
9. Grapes are yellow.
Butter is orange.
Activity 2: CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Aim: to revise historical characters
Timing : 5 minutes
Interaction : T- S, SS-T
Procedure : Teacher asks students about the characters from previous
lesson : Sights around world
Activity 3: LEAD-IN
Aim: to get SS into the new topic
Timing: 5 minutes
Interaction: T-S
Procedure: Teacher asks students to combine the following colours
and to see what they make .
1. yellow + white =

2. red + brown =
3. red + blue =
4. red + white =
5. purple + white =
6. brown + white =
Activity 4: INTRODUCING THE TOPIC
Aim: to get familiar to the new topic
Timing: 2 minutes
Procedure: Teacher announces the new topic and writes the title on the
blackboard:
Unit 4 - Colours
Lesson 1 A colourful world
Teacher explains the title and what they are going to discuss during this
class
Activity 5
Aim : to talk about colours
Timing: 3 minutes
Interaction: SS-T
Procedure: Teacher asks students to match the colours to a word with
the same vowel sound in it. (exercise 2a , page 30)
Activity 6
Aim: to use ISH suffix
Timing: 8 minutes
Interaction: SS-T
Procedure: Teacher writes on the blackboard some words :
1. green
2. tall
3. child
4. blue
5. red
Teacher asks students to add the suffix ISH to the above words.
Teacher takes one by one and explains word formation and spelling
rules.

Activity 7
Aim: to associate flowers of different colours to their special
meanings
Timing: 5 minutes
Interaction: T-S, S-T
Procedure: Using the expression to be going to , students choose 3
flowers to plant and give them a special meaning.
Activity 8
Aim: to associate colours to different things
Timing: 5 minutes
Interaction: T-S
Procedure: Teacher asks students to close their textbooks
Students will hear a song, after that they have to say where is the
singers home in the country or town.
Students open their textbook and check the answer.
Students listen again and match things to colours mentioned or
implied in the song.
Skies- blue
Sand- yellow
Swan- white
Flowers- white
Mountains- green
Rocks-white
Students read the lyrics of the song and in groups find the lines which
suggest :
a) people at home are encouraging
b) home is pure and peaceful
c) the land of the singers dreams is real
Activity 8: EVALUATION/ HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Aims: - to evaluate SS work
- to assign SS homework
Timing: 3 minutes
Interaction: T-S
Procedure: T grades some SS.
SS are assigned to write exercise 6 at page31.
