Aadmi Party called for the
setting up of a special
investigation team under the
Supreme Court to look into the
funding of all political parties.
Last week, Arvind Kejriwal had
warned that mud slinging will
be carried out against AAP. This
is exactly what is happening,
said party member Yogendra
Yadav, adding that AAP would
not have put fund details online
if it had anything to hide.

its website, AVAM alleged donations worth Rs 2 crore were
shown
from
companies
which have no resources to
make such donations.
The controversy, coming
five days before the assembly
election on February 7, had
rival BJP at AAPs throat ac-

cusing it of hypocrisy regarding its transparent mode

of funding. The Congress,
too, attacked AAP for its alleged double-speak and demanded an immediate probe
into the money trail.
Refusing to react directly
to the charge, senior AAP
members said the party has
accepted every payment by
cheque and asked for the donors PAN card. Beyond that,
it said, it didnt have the
wherewithal to check the
source of money. They added
that AAPs accounts have
been inspected twice by the
home ministry and nothing
wrong had been found with
them. It insisted that it had
nothing to hide and was open
to a probe by a special investigative team that is monitored
by the Supreme Court.
Still, it seemed odd that as
much as Rs 2 crore came into
its kitty in one day nine
months ago, and AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, who is a former IRS officer, didnt wake up to the
sudden flood of money. At the
same time, it might be argued
that if AAP indeed had something to hide, why would it
put it out in the open on the
net?

Beijing: In a significant development, China and Russia on Monday decided to back

India for moving a proposal at the United
Nations that essentially goes against Pakistan on the issue of terrorism.
In order to corner Pakistan for sheltering and facilitating terrorists involved the
26/11 carnage and other attacks in the
country, India seeks to move a resolution in
the UN to punish those who shelter and finance terrorism. And on Monday, it enlisted the support of China and Russia for the
same. I see this as a major achievement,
external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj
told newsmen after a summit of the foreign
ministers of Russia, India and China (RIC).
This is a rare occasion when China, a
close ally of Pakistan, has taken a stand on
an issue that will rattle Islamabad. Beijings
move not only reflects importance it accords to New Delhi, but is also an acknowledgment of its own problem of terrorism in
Xinjiang. China has said that foreign
forces are helping terrorists in Xinjiang.

UAE airlines fly almost as many Indians as desi ones

New Delhi: The United Arab

Emirates (UAE) emerged as
the aviation hub for Indian
globetrotters in 2014. Two
Dubai-based airlines full
service Emirates and lowcost flydubai together flew
almost as many people in

more than Dubais airlines.
Directorate general of

three airlines of UAE

more people to and from India than any standalone Indian carrier. The pre-dominance of the Gulf carriers
is evident from the fact that

Mfg sector growth

moderates in Jan
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: Factory activity

slowed marginally in January,
while core sector growth moderated to a three-month low,
posing some fresh concerns
about the strength of the industrial recovery.
The HSBC India Purchasing Managers Index, an indicator to gauge manufacturing
operating conditions, slowed to
52.9 in January from two-year
high of 54.5 in December. The
50-point mark separates contraction from expansion.
Amid reports of improving
demand, latest data indicated
that new orders increased for
the fifteenth successive month
in January, albeit at a slower
rate compared to December.
The December survey results

had sparked hopes of a sharp

turnaround in the sector.
Manufacturing activity
continued to signal improvement in January, though the
rate of growth slipped to a
three-month low. The slip can
partly be attributed to consolidation after two months of impressive upticks. New orders
continued to grow, though at a
slower pace than in December,
said Pranjul Bhandari, chief
India economist at HSBC.
