Presbyterian Church:

As we enter the month of October,

at Hill Church we often take time for
our Stewardship Emphasis.
I often say to you that in Jesus
Christ we have Spiritual life, Eternal
life, and Abundant life!.
It is God who comes in Jesus and
says to us, I have come that you might
have life, and have it abundantly!.
To give abundantly is to give
beyond measure. Jesus gives to you
and me beyond measure in so very
many ways.

The Worship of God in Jesus

Christ is the central act of the
People of God. Jesus regularly went to the
Synagogue and to the Temple to pray, worship,
and hear and share Gods Word. My thought is
that if Jesus did it regularly, shouldnt those who
follow Jesus make it a regular happening of their
week? Take time to invite and bring others to our
times of Worship, Study, Fellowship, Service and
Outreach. Thank you!

Stewardship Emphasis Time

and 2015 Stewardship Campaign
The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee is pleased to announce that our stewardship emphasis
for 2015 will focus on Abundant Giving. This stewardship message is based on 2 Corinthians 9: 6-8
and 11 which reads:
The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who
sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up
your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Our stewardship emphasis time and 2015 campaign will run from October 12- 26, 2014. Prior to the
start of the campaign members of the Session and the Board of Deacons will conduct a special leadership
giving drive to get the campaign off to a positive start. The campaign will wrap up on Sunday, November 2th
when we will consecrate our estimate of giving cards. Light refreshments will be served in the Fellowship
Hall following this Worship service.
Abundant Giving starts with recognizing that we have been abundantly blessed by God. It is about
prayer and about our willingness to be led by the Spirit to discover the ways we can pay it forward and
share generously of our time, talents, and treasure with all who need them.
During this campaign everyone will receive this stewardship message and estimate of giving card by
mail. This will allow you to make your decision about giving in the privacy of your home, without another
person from the church present to solicit a response. Estimate of giving cards are only that estimates, and
in no way obligate a person to give more of their time, talent or treasure than they can afford or wish to
share.
We are hopeful that this years stewardship emphasis time will help all of us realize the joy we can
experience by giving abundantly of our time talent and treasure to others and about how pleasing our giving
is to God when we do it with a cheerful heart.
If you have any questions about our stewardship emphasis time or our 2015 stewardship campaign
please contact Tim Moses, Carolyn Street or Pat Brennen from the Stewardship and Mission Support
Committee, Pastor Clark Sawyer or any of our leaders from Session or the Board of Deacons.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

The Task Force transmitted your funds to the Bubiashie District committee on September 9th. We sent
$6,500. Thanks to the individuals, groups, and families who have supported this mission cause and
we would request others of you to do likewise in this next year. Upon receipt of the monies, just less than an hour after
being sent by our Treasurer Lyn Goehring, Bernard Daddy, Chairperson of the Bubiashie Scholarship Committee
responded by e-mail:
Dear Lyn,
Please, this is to acknowledge receipt of $6,500.00 as remittance from Hill United Presbyterian Church, Butler, for the
purpose of awarding scholarships to deserving ladies of the Bubiashie District, E.P Church, for the 2014/2015 academic
year.
We say thanks to you and to the congregation very much. May The Lord richly replenish your source.
Bernard
Joshua Heikklila, the PC(USA) mission co-worker in West Africa, writes to tell us about the needs in Niger, probably
the poorest of the African countries. There are four primary schools in Niger, serving both Muslim and Christian
children. These church-run schools have a reputation for academic excellence. Throughout Niger there is a high
degree of good will toward the church, even among the 98 percent of Nigers population who are not Christian, because
of what the work of the church is doing to help people in the country.
This is just a continuing example of how the church is called to be the hands, feet, eyes, and heart of Jesus. In
cooperation with the Bubiashie District we do likewise in Ghana, but only with Christian young women. As noted in
articles by many others concerning the great needs of Africa, we can claim to continue to be at the forefront in
addressing one of these needs in West Africa. Again, thanks to you, the Hill Church members, and thanks be to God.
Our next item of business will be to send Christmas greetings to students and key persons in the Bubiashie District.
Meantime, with Christmas being closer than we think, consider a contribution to the scholarship fund instead of a
material gift to honor a family member or a friend.
Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie Scholarship Committee, as
well as the students in your prayers. Also pray for resolution to the Ebola health crisis in West Africa.
James Ihlenfeld for the Ghana Mission Task Force

ITS SHOEBOX TIME!

Our Church will once again be collecting filled shoeboxes for girls and boys for
Operation Christmas Child. We will have more information in an upcoming
Church bulletin insert about ideas for filling the shoeboxes with goodies for needy
children, or you can visit the Operation Christmas child website at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ for ideas,
boy and girl box labels, and an informative video. All shoe boxes need to be collected on or before
November 23rd to make sure that the children receive them in time for Christmas. If shopping and filling
shoeboxes are not for you, we will also accept monetary donations.
Christmas is about sharing the gift of God's Son, Jesus Christ, with the world. Operation Christmas Child
brings joy and hope to poor children around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of
Gods love. You can share Gods love with needy children in Honduras, Kosovo, or another country by
participating with other members of our church. You can start by filling out and coloring the enclosed letter
to put in the shoebox. Also consider if you want your shoebox to go to a boy or girl and what age group for
which you would like to buy. Wrap the lid and the bottom of your shoebox in colorful Christmas paper, and
look for a brochure in church or visit the website www.samaritanspurse.org/occ for gift ideas to fill your
box.
Don't forget to bring your shoe box gift to church on or before Sunday,
November 23, 2014. What a perfect gift to give in honor of Jesus' birthday!
