Snapshots of Haiti. Nineteen EPC members spent a week serving at Hospital St. Croix in the city of Leogane, roughly 15 miles southwest of Port-aPrince. Our experience included teaching hospital staffers how to operate an
ultrasound machine, providing a dental clinic, organizing hundreds of boxes
of supplies that have accumulated since the earthquake, building shelves to
better organize the supplies, simply spending time with the Haitian people,
having our eyes opened to poverty beyond our imagining, sharing devotionals each evening, enjoying working and relaxing together, and in it all, seeing God all around
us. Six other EPC members went this past November and I hope many more of you will
make this trip in the next year or two. Watch for more in the coming months.
Blessings,
Brad

Family Promise at Eastminster

Family Promise is an exciting new ministry serving homeless families in the Columbia area. Eastminster has joined
15 area churches to help host these families, with our first
hosting week February 15-22, 2015. We are grateful to all who have donated items to help
with this ministry. We currently have the supplies we need, but there is a specific need for
overnight and weekend volunteers and drivers. If these opportunities are of interest to you,
please contact Elizabeth Barber (ebarber77@gmail.com) or Lucy Corley (lcorley2@sc.rr.com)
with questions, or to volunteer to help with this ministry.

Prayer Matters

TUESDAY, February 10

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Paul instructs us to pray continually. Following this command we are excited to continue
the ministry Prayer Matters at EPC. Beginning the week of
February 9, each church family will be prayed for over one
week during the year. You and your family will receive a
note letting you know when you have been lifted up in prayer. Please begin praying now that
each family experiences Gods transforming power through this new ministry! For questions
or ways to join this ministry, please contact Kim Leighton (260-3548) or Carol Hill (7676734).

Writers Wanted!
Would you like to write a brief devotional or reflection for Lent? We want to provide a
brief (roughly 100 words) devotion for the 40 days of Lent via e-mail. Write when the spirit
moves you, write from the heart or just write! Each and every one will be greatly appreciated by our congregation. Please send to devotional@eastminsterpres.org.

PEACE Service February 8

The PEACE Service offers you a place to come away and be quiet before the
Lord. It is a service where we pray for all kinds of needs and celebrate the Lords
Supper together. If you desire a quiet place of worship, join us at 5:00 p.m. in the
Adult Reception Hall. A nursery is available in the Drop-In Nursery rooms in the
CLC.

Be a Lunch Buddy!

Would you like to help a child learn to read? Thirty-five, Eastminster members
share lunch with their 4th grade lunch buddies at Bradley Elementary, two Tuesdays per month from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., followed by work on reading skills. The
kids read to their Lunch Buddies and then take Accelerated Reader tests on school
computers. The Lunch Buddies will tell you it is a rewarding experience. Our
challenge: there are 55 kids, so most Lunch Buddies have two kids to assist in their
reading exercises. Our goal: get to a one-to-one ratio so that each child gets the full
attention of a Lunch Buddy. Come give Lunch Buddies a try for the remainder of
this semester. You will find it a worthwhile and fun ministry. If interested, please
contact Julie McDaniel at the church office, jmcdaniel@eastminsterpres.org, or
John McArthur at jmcarthur@hsblawfirm.com.

Whats Your Top 10?

EPCs library will be undergoing some exciting changes in 2015! We want to

start with your input and suggestions, as we make new plans. What are your
favorite Christian-based reads, Bible studies or other resources youve enjoyed
recently? We want to build our librarys resources to best suit our members
desires and needs. To submit your TOP 10 READS & RESOURCES, e-mail
Caroline Bennett, Small Groups Coordinator and Librarian, cbennett@eastminsterpres.org.
