Read the following case study thoroughly and answer the following questions:
KMC India Limited is a multinational company that is in the field of infrastructure
development. It takes up construction projects as a joint venture partner with other companies
across the globe. The company had developed a very good technical knowledge base and
management practices. This was possible on account of working in diverse conditions with
various partners, over a period of time. Even though the company had well developed IT
infrastructure but it was finding it difficult to manage its ever growing knowledge base and
the demands of dynamic business environment. Therefore, the top management hired XAWS
Inc., a technology consulting company.
XAWS initially identified following business challenges faced by KMC that included
managing tremendous amount of data being generated continuously, no uniformity in the
software process with regard to coding and tools, more time spent by the managers in
locating desired business information, underdeveloped internal communication channels,
absence of centralised policies related to administration, no enforcement of compliance,
resistance to change, and higher cost of existing IT systems.
The consultant suggested the migration of current IT system to Microsoft Cloud system in a
phased manner by appropriately mapping the components of the current and proposed
systems. For this standardised set of processes, guidelines, templates and frameworks were
designed. The distributed data was collected from different sources and was consolidated in
a centralised repository. Users were given training to make them familiar with the working
of the new system and thus reduce their resistance to change. The guidelines, design, and
documentation practices for the new system were created. Also a library of IT tools and
assets was created to provide flexibility in the operational management of knowledge and
data.
This migration to Microsoft Cloud system, resulted in KMC deriving benefits in the form of
reduction in cost of IT infrastructure, collaboration among various units of the company as a
unified system, consolidation of information flow between various subsidiaries and partner
companies, better security management of KMCs knowledge base, improved efficiency in
accessing data, information and content, availability of convenient data accessing tools and

improvement in the governance issues achieved through streamlining of knowledge

management processes.
