In my first taks, I have to review and comment on articles about athletic sports. I have chosen an
article entitled 'Mental Skills of Succesful Athletes. After I went through the article, I only know
that we dont have to be a professional athlete or an Olympic champion to be a successful
athlete.
What these athletes have in common is that their sport is important to them and theyre
committed to being the best that they can be within the scope of their limitations other life
commitments, finances, time, and their natural ability. They set high, realistic goals for
themselves and train and play hard. They are successful because they are pursuing their goals
and enjoying their sport. Their sport participation enriches their lives and they believe that what
they get back is worth what they put into their sport. Every moment of everyday should be
focused in some small or large part toward action, which in turn allows us to achieve our goals.
The goals that we set must be challenging. At the same time, we should be realistic and
attainable, not impossible to reach. Be sure to set long-term and short-term goals. Athletes with
goals succeed, because they know where theyre going.

Goal setting is one of the most important skills taught to athletes in order to help them
achieve optimal performance. The goal-setting process helps athletes understand where they are
currently and also where they want to go. A mental skills training consultant or sport
psychologist can teach an athlete how to set systematic goals that are focused on the process and
performance rather than focused on the outcome of competition. Goal setting is one of the most

Attitude is a choice. Choose an attitude that is predominately positive. Being an athlete
gives us the opportunity to compete against ourself and learn from our own successes and
failures. Pursue excellence, not perfection. As athletes, we are part of a larger system that
includes our families, friends, teammates, coaches, and even our fans. Be open to communicating
your thoughts, feelings, and needs to this circle-they are our support system. Communication will
help improve our people skills so we can better deal with conflict, difficult opponents, a negative
crowd, and other oppositional situations.
Try to maintain balance and perspective between our sport and the rest of our daily life.
Respect our coaches, teammates, officials, parents, fans, opponents, and remember to respect
ourself. A good attitude can contribute to success in sports. Attitude is defined as our mind-set
in approaching, preparing for, and performing during competition. There is no substitute for
being coach-able, whether we are the coach or the athlete. a positive mental attitude may changes
our perspective on the grind. Attitude is what builds cohesion, brings leaders to the front, and
sees every player on the team contribute at the right time. A great attitude requires a constant
desire to improve, not just for ourself, but for the teammates. A positive mental attitude is
evident when one experiences a bad break, and they find a way to overcome.
There are many enjoyable things that are sacrificed by athletes in order to attain their
goal. The singular focus leads us to choose hard work and dedication above vacations, parties,
hobbies and participating in other leisure sports. To succeed in life, we need to become
comfortable with short-term sacrifice in order to enjoy long-term success. As many a coach has
repeated, keep your eye on the prize.
Its natural for an athlete to feel anxious before a practice or a game. The secret is to
accept anxiety as part of the sport and learn how to reduce it. Visualization can improve
performance and develop confidence. Clear goals can also help manage high levels of anxiety.
Try using relaxation techniques like breathing and muscle relaxation to help with physical

symptoms. Finally, distract ourself. Talk to teammates or listen to music. Whatever helps keep
your mind from generating negative thoughts.

2.0 REFLECTION

Firstly, I would like to thank Allah SWT for giving me the strength and courage to finish this
assignment on time.I would also like to express my gratitude to respectful lecturer,Mr. Ahmad
Kamil B. Mohamed for the help and guideance she had given us which enable us to complete
this assignment. My deepest gratitude also goes all my collegues for their help. I do not have any
problems in typing and surfing in internet because I always use the computer for my lessons. I
am a very determined person.I never give up easily. If I have any problems,I will try my best to
overcome them, either by myself or find help from others. There were many obstacles I have to
overcome in order to complete this paper.
My biggest problem was my inability to master the English Language. This had made it
difficult for me to understand the content of this assignment. But after attending the face to face
interaction class and listening to the lecturers explanation, I was able to understand what the
assignment was all about. After I read the assignment, I surf the internet in order to look for some
interesting article about music. I finally found some good articles related to athletic sports. I do
not use all those difficulties as an excuse not to be able to complete my course work.
I also learned a lot of things from those problems. I realized now that mastering English
Language is important although I am just a Music teacher. As a teacher, I should be more
concerned and sensitive towards the governments policies, especially the current one
Memperkasa Bahasa Melayu, Memperkukuh Bahasa Inggeris(MBMMBI). I am going to accept
the governments challenge, to upgrade the mastery of both languages The ability to understand
both languages will help me to be a better teacher, a good student and a knowledgeable other. I
will tell my pupils the importance of leaning English so they will be able to get all the knowledge
in the world because English is aninternational language. This is the best coursewoks I have ever
done. If there ia any flaws or mistakes,I will try to overcome them in the future. Insyallah..
