Abstract: In this paper, we analysed the nature of dc conductivity measurement on the oil
impregnated pressboard (OIB) with different electric field stress i.e. 0.1 kV/mm (low), 2.5
kV/mm (medium) and 5 kV/mm (high) and at three temperatures i.e. 25C, 60C and
90C.

Figure 1. shows that in terms of the relaxation time,

the effect of applied electric stress was not visible
and In terms of dc conductivity value, higher
electric field stress (up to 5kV/mm) does not
increase significantly the dc conductivity value of
OIB.
1.2 Electrical Conductivity with Different
Temperature
The dc conductivity value and relaxation time of oil
impregnated
pressboard
have
a
strong
temperature dependency and it fits the Arrhenius
relation with the same value of activation energy
shown in Table 1. It can be also noted that the
relaxation time of OIB is inversely proportional to
the dc conductivity value.

From the measured activation energy and the dc

conductivity value, we calculated the preexponential factor for pressboard B 3.1A
impregnated in mineral oil. The exponential factor
is between 7E+5 - 9E+5. It gives good approximation
of dc conductivity of pressboard B 3.1A at different
temperature.

CONCLUSIONS
a) The dc conductivity of oil impregnated
material has a weak dependency on the
applied electric field stress.
b) The dc conductivity and relaxation time of oil
impregnated pressboard have a strong
temperature dependency and it fits the
Arrhenius relation. Making measurement at
higher
temperature
will
fasten
the
measurement time to reach steady current,
as the temperature will exponentially
accelerate time required to reach steady
state value. Then the dc conductivity value
at lower temperature could be calculated
easily by Arrhenius relation.
