GHS Social Media Policy

The following social media expectations have been established by Generic High School
and the Generic High School Athletic Department for our student-athletes and staff.
GHS and GHS Athletics understand and appreciate that our young men and women
have a great deal of freedom of expression available to them on various and varied
social media outlets. GHS and GHS Athletics acknowledge and establish the concept
and ideal that with these freedoms also comes very real and very tangible expectations
and responsibilities.

Expanding Our World and Protecting Our Values

As an organization with a commitment to quality of education and the safety of our
students, as well as the preservation of our outstanding reputation as a school and
athletic department, the standards for appropriate online communication at Generic High
School are necessarily high. While we respect the right of students, employees, alumni,
and other members of our community to utilize the variety of social media options
available, we must insist that the following standards be met by our students and faculty
at all times, as well as by alumni and all other users who participate in GHS-sponsored
sites.

GHS Social Media Comments and Participation Policy

Comments to GHS-sponsored sites, such as school and school activity/sportscentered websites via blogs, online forms, etc., or social media sites, are welcome and
encouraged, and we look forward to hearing from you. To promote respectful discussion
within this forum, we request that you be courteous and productive and avoid comments
that are profane, obscene, offensive, sexually explicit, inappropriate, inflammatory or
otherwise objectionable. Blogs often foster debate of an issue; users are to engage in
such exchanges with mutual respect for others opinions.
For the privacy of users and their families, please assume that all postings to GHSsponsored sites will be publicly available on the Internet and therefore publicly
accessible without limitation or protection of any kind. Please consider how much
personal information to share, with the understanding that this information may be linked
to your name and published on the Internet.
By posting a comment or other material to GHS-sponsored sites as outlined above,
users give GHS the irrevocable right and license to exercise all copyright, publicity, and
moral rights with respect to any content you provide, which includes using your
submission for any purpose in any form and on any media, including but not limited to:
displaying, modifying, reproducing, distributing, creating other works from, and

publishing your submission. GHS reserves the right to review all comments before they
are posted, and to edit them to preserve readability for other users.
GHS further reserves the right to reject or remove comments for any reason, including
but not limited to our belief that the comments violate this Comment Policy, to determine
in its sole discretion which submissions meet its qualifications for posting, and to remove
comments for any reason, including but not limited to our belief that the comments
violate this Policy. Any submissions that fail to follow this Policy in any way or are
otherwise irrelevant will be removed.
We also reserve the right to amend this Policy from time to time in our judgment to
address issues that may arise and changes in our operations or the law.
In posting material on GHS-sponsored sites, you agree not to:

Post material that GHS determines is threatening, harassing, illegal, obscene,

defamatory, slanderous, or hostile towards any individual or entity.
Post phone numbers, email addresses or other confidential information of students,
faculty, staff or any other person other than yourself. If you choose to post your own
contact information for any reason, please be aware that the information will be
available to the public and is, therefore, subject to potential misuse.
Post material that infringes on the rights of GHS or any individual or entity, including
privacy, intellectual property or publication rights.
Post material that promotes or advertises a commercial product or solicits business
or membership or financial or other support in any business, group or organization
except those which are officially sponsored by or affiliated with GHS, except in
designated areas specifically marked for this purpose.
Post chain letters, post the same comment multiple times, or otherwise distribute
spam via any GHS-sponsored and/or affiliated site.
Allow any other individual or entity to use your identification for posting or viewing
comments.
Post comments anonymously, or under multiple names or using another persons
name.

GHS reserves the right to do any or all of the following:

Ban future posts from people who repeatedly violate this Policy. We may affect such
bans by refusing posts from specific email addresses or IP addresses, or through
other means as necessary.
Remove or edit comments at any time, whether or not they violate this Policy.

User agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Generic High School, its affiliates,
directors, employees, successors and assigns against any damages, losses, liabilities,
judgments, causes of action, costs or expenses (including reasonable attorneys fees
and costs) arising out of any claim by a third party relating to any material user has
posted on GHS-sponsored or affiliated sites.
By posting a comment or material of any kind on a GHS-sponsored site, the user hereby
agrees to the Policy set forth above.

Faculty/Volunteer Use of Social Networking Sites

GHS respects the right of employees and volunteers to use social media and networking
sites, as well as personal websites and blogs, but it is important that employees and
volunteers personal use of these sites does not damage the Schools reputation, its
employees, or its students or their families. Employees and volunteers should exercise
care in setting appropriate boundaries between their personal and public online
behavior, understanding that what is private in the digital world often has the possibility
of becoming public, even without their knowledge or consent. The School strongly
encourages all employees and volunteers to carefully review the privacy settings on any
social media and networking sites they use and exercise care and good judgment when
posting content and information on such sites.
When using a social media site, an employee or volunteer may not include current
students as friends, followers, or any other similar terminology used by various sites.
If an employee maintains or participates in any GHS-sponsored or affiliated online
community that extends to persons who are parents, alums, or other constituents, s/he
must exercise good judgment about any content that is shared on the site. Additionally,
employees and volunteers should adhere to the following guidelines, which are
consistent with the Schools workplace standards on harassment, student relationships,
conduct, professional communication, and confidentiality:

An employee or volunteer should not make statements that would violate any of the
Schools policies, including its policies concerning discrimination or harassment;
The employee or volunteer must uphold the Schools value of respect for the
individual and avoid making defamatory statements about the School, its employees,
its students, or their families;
An employee or volunteer may not disclose any confidential information of the
School or confidential information obtained during the course of his/her employment
or involvement, about any individuals or organizations, including students and/or
their families.

If the School believes that an employee or volunteers activity on a social networking

site, blog, or personal website may violate the Schools policies, the School may request
that the employee or volunteer cease such activity. Depending on the severity of the
incident, the employee or volunteer may be subject to disciplinary action.
Creating and Maintaining Official GHS Social Networking Sites
All "official" GHS social networking sites must be approved by the Webmaster and
Director of Communications and should adhere to the following standards:

Logos and graphics used on the site must be consistent with the branding standards
and usage guidelines of the School;
Sites that accept comments or postings by anyone other than the site administrator
must be diligently monitored to ensure that information displayed fits within GHS
guidelines and is appropriate to the subject matter of the page;
Students should not be expected to utilize the site as the only source of important
information since student access to social networking sites is restricted on the GHS
network.

Unauthorized pages that have not been approved by the Webmaster and Director of
Communications will be treated as personal pages, and are therefore limited to the
standards provided above.
Student Use of Social Media
First and foremost, students are encouraged to always exercise the utmost caution when
participating in any form of social media or online communications, both within the GHS
community and beyond.
Students who participate in online interactions must remember that their posts reflect on
the entire Generic High School community and, as such, are subject to the same
behavioral standards set forth in all Student Code of Conduct handbooks, pledges and
agreements.
In addition to the regulations found in these Student handbooks, pledges and
agreements, students are expected to abide by the following:

To protect the privacy of GHS students and faculty, students may not, under any
circumstances, create digital video recordings of GHS community members either on
campus or at off-campus GHS events for online publication or distribution.
Students may not use social media sites to publish disparaging or harassing remarks
about GHS community members, athletic or academic contest rivals, etc.
Students who choose to post editorial content to websites or other forms of online
media must ensure that their submission does not reflect poorly upon the school.

Failure to abide by this Policy, as with other policies at GHS, may result in disciplinary
action as described in the Student Handbook, or as determined by the Office of the
Dean of Students.

I understand my rights and responsibilities as they pertain to the Generic High School Social
Media Policy, and I agree to follow and abide by this Policy in spirit and to the letter.

Generic High School Mascots Football Pledge

The Football Team Policy Booklet you received, along with this agreement, is designed to inform our StudentAthletes and their parents of what they can expect from Generic High School Football as well as what will be
expected from them. Please read and consider both carefully. Your understanding can and will make a
difference. Your ability to agree to a total commitment requires a thorough understanding of our objectives, for
no one can fully extend himself without knowing exactly what is expected - and why.
GHS Mascot Football is built to be a phase of your education, and is designed to be compatible with your
studies. GHS Mascot Football is not a business or a way of life, but hopefully you recognize that football can
add an important dimension to your high school experience - in addition to being highly rewarding, and a great
deal of fun. The core content of our program includes a focus on things like loyalty, discipline, sportsmanship,
and a physical challenge of your strength, endurance, and courage. It is an experience in sacrifice where you
will be asked to sublimate personal goals for team objectives.
GHS Mascot Football represents a special opportunity for young men of your age. The nature of GHS Mascot
Football strives for team success through the dedicated efforts of many individuals working together. When
you work with someone and depend on him, loyalty becomes a necessity. This means that coachs see that
your best interests are served and that you, in turn, exhibit a concern for your teammates and coaches as well.
No group effort can be successful without loyalty; disloyalty demeans the individual more than it hurts the
group. Our concept of loyalty extends beyond individuals and encompasses principals such as accepting
discipline, rules and protocols. No team will become great with even a single dissident. Only complete loyalty
will enable you to extend your effort beyond your limits and, if we are going to continue to honor a great
tradition, this will be necessary.
Team rules are a very important part of our program. Commitment to follow our team rules is mandatory for all
players. GHS Mascot Football players must also conform to all school rules, and do their best in all classes. As
a player you represent the GHS Football Program and your actions reflect on our program, good or bad. All
players are expected to attend all practices and meetings. Any player that cannot attend a practice must
inform the Head Coach prior to missing practice. When a player misses practice it hurts the entire team and
impedes coachs ability to have an effective team practice. When you accept the responsibility of GHS Mascot
Football, you recognize that rules are necessary for the discipline of a well-trained team. Remember: the bestprepared, most committed team has the best chance of success. It is required that you accept the many
meanings of the word discipline as applied to football. You must recognize the discipline of individual
assignments, which makes the team concept of football possible and enables you to continue to play
successfully - even though things may not be going well for you personally. It is only through this approach
that we can stay together when things become difficult and continue to build a program with great tradition
and great successes.
I understand the expectations of the Generic High School Mascot Football Program as outlined in our GHS
Sports Handbook, our Sport Specific Policy Booklet and in this Pledge, and agree to follow all team rules,
expectations, policies and protocols in spirit and to the letter.
