LOCATE15 UPDATE OVERVIEW:

KEY STREAM SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED FOR UNLOCKING THE POWER OF


LOCATION AND KEY SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE
Locate15 is Australia and New Zealands leading spatial event being held at the
Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre 10-12 March. Locate15 is designed to
energise the location industry, inspire both producers and consumers of location
information, and drive greater awareness, adoption and innovation.
The organising committee is proud to announce the speakers for the Unlocking
the Power of Location stream. This stream will present current topics in surveying,
examples of how technology is moving the field forward and the impact on
residential and commercial real estate. In addition to the Stream Key Speaker and
presentations, there will also be a Forum where the Surveyor-Generals or
representative will highlight state and territory issues and direction and the state
of play in their jurisdiction. The panel will also be the forum to discuss issues of
National importance including the Cadastre 2034 and other issues facing the
sector.
STREAM KEY SPEAKERS
Paul Harcombe, Chief Surveyor NSW / Deputy
Surveyor General NSW Land and Property
Information Division, NSW Office of Finance &
Services
Pauls primary responsibilities include management of
the State Survey System and related statutory
functions. Paul is also a member of the NSW Board of Surveying and Spatial
Information, which regulates land and mining surveying activities and advises
Government on Spatial Information matters. He is also Deputy Chair of the
Geographical Names Board of NSW and Deputy Chair of Intergovernmental
Committee for Surveying & Mapping.

Paul holds a Bachelor in Surveying from the University of New South Wales and
also a Master of Geomatics from the University of Melbourne. He has a broad
background in
surveying and spatial information. Paul is a Fellow of the Surveying & Spatial
Sciences

Institute. In 2010 he was awarded the SSSI Presidents Medal for services to the
industry. Paul is also a Fellow of the Institution of NSW Incorporated.
Peter Sippel, Director
Surveying, Spatial & Urban Design Services at THG Resource
Strategists and Chairman of the Board of THG WSG Pty Ltd.
The THP Group has offices in Brisbane, Mackay, Proserpine
and Cairns. He has gained over 35 years of experience in
the surveying / spatial sector since graduating in 1979 with a
Bachelor of Applied Science, Surveying. Peter is a registered
consulting cadastral surveyor in Queensland and is currently
both the Chair of the Board of Surveyors of Queensland and the Council of
Reciprocating Surveyor Boards of Australia and New Zealand.
During his career Peter has served as Chair at both state and national level of
Consulting Surveyors Australia, now known as the Surveying Industry Business
Association. Contribution beyond his profession and to community is also a key
factor in Peter's career, which saw him participate as a board member and Chair
of the Board of A B Paterson College, a leading independent P-12 school on the
Gold Coast.
Matt Higgins, Manager of Geodesy and Positioning
Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines
Matt holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Surveying and is
a Registered Cadastral Surveyor. From 2007 to 2010, Matt
was a Vice President of the International Federation of
Surveyors (FIG) and was made an Honorary Member of FIG in
2012. He has been a member of the United Nations
mandated International Committee on GNSS, where he cochaired Working Group D on Reference Frame, Timing and
Applications. Matt was made an Adjunct Professor at the Queensland University of
Technology in 2011.
In 2013, he was appointed to the U.S. Position, Navigation and Timing Advisory
Board, which is a Presidential committee that advises the U.S. Government on
national and international PNT related issues. Matt was made an Honorary Fellow
of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute of Australia (SSSI) in 2014.
Don Grant, Associate Professor, Geospatial Sciences
RMIT
Don holds a BSc Honours in Physics from the University of
Canterbury, a Diploma in Surveying from the University of

Otago and a PhD in Surveying from the University of New South Wales. He
registered in New Zealand as a surveyor in 1979 and is currently registered as a
licensed surveyor (non-practising) in Victoria.
From 2004 to February 2014 Don was the Surveyor-General of New Zealand. Don
was elected as a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Surveyors in 2007 and was Chair of
the Australasian Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM)
from 2010 to 2012. He has also represented New Zealand with the International
Association of Geodesy (IAG) and is currently a representative for the International
Federation of Surveyors (FIG).
In February 2014 Don took up a position as Associate Professor in Geospatial
Science at RMIT University. His main research interests are in geodesy, the
cadastre (3D and 4D) and international boundaries.
Dr Russell Priebbenow, Director Cadastrala and Geodetic Services
Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines
Russell is the Director of Cadastral and Geodetic Services in the
Department of Natural Resources and Mines. He is a registered
cadastral surveyor with over 35 years of public sector experience
in surveying and mapping, including more than 20 years
involvement with legislation and policy. Russell regularly
represents the Department at surveying seminars, conferences and committee
meetings. He is a member of the Surveyors Board of Queensland and also the
Queensland member of the national Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying
and Mapping.
