RuTGERS CoMMuNITY PRoGRAMS
In this brochure you will find information on our family programs for
WinteR/SPRinG 2015.
For more than 20 years, Rutgers Community Programs has been a place for
families to grow together. We offer a relaxed, fun environment where children can
play, create, express themselves and explore, and parents can find friendship and
resources to guide them through all stages of parenthood.
Early childhood education experts point to several areas of development that help
prepare children for school success. At Rutgers, all domains of learningphysical,
social and emotional, cognitive and creative expressionare nurtured in an
interrelated, child-centered approach.
our programs are designed to be with you and your family from very start, with
free parenting and education workshops and family-only playgroups; as well as classes in art, movement, dance and Chinese
language and culture, all developmentally appropriate for children as they
grow from infancy to elementary-school age.
our classes for preschoolers include On My Own playgroups, a gentle separation program for children 2-3 years of age. older, independent preschoolers (2.9-5
years) can join our Ready, Set, Go! play and enrichment program, dedicated to
growth, discovery, and creativity through a variety of hands-on learning activities.
Rutgers offers your family a warm, inclusive community. our instructors have
been here for many years, and support each other through team teaching and
collaboration. our facilities include an art studio, a gym, an auditorium with stage,
and beautiful classrooms for On My Own and Ready, Set, Go! Rutgers is a
safe and supportive place, conveniently located at the corner of 73rd and broadway.
Come learn, play, and grow with us!
We love your
program so
much we
constantly
recommend it
to local moms.

i am very impressed with the quality of education, topics covered, and class
projects in Ready, Set, Go!. My daughter attends another preschool on
Monday, Wednesday, and Fridayone that has a good reputation on the Upper
West Side and i feel that she is learning more, and exposed to more things at
Rutgers What a great job you are doing with your program.

our art program offers a warm, nurturing space
for young artists to grow, create, and have fun! Class
sizes are limited so your child receives
individual attention and can fully enjoy the studio
space. Toddlers are accompanied by a parent
or caregiver, while preschoolers who are ready and elementary-aged children attend classes
on their own. be sure to dress for a mess!

Handprints is a child-centered art program where our youngest artists are free to explore and be
creative. Children enjoy the stations of our art studio at their own pace: play dough, easel painting,
and a special project each week that is set up at the big table. Handprints offers a safe and joyful
space for young children to express themselves, where the process of creating matters, not the final
product.

Making full use of our spacious gym, these fun, energetic
classes combine music and movement to help children develop their gross motor skills. Each session includes circle time with song and instruments; activities to explore colors, numbers, and body
parts, and more; obstacle courses; and free play time with balls, hoops, and gym equipment. Children learn teamwork and build their self-esteem through each activity (including clean-up, which
they do all by themselves!). Each class ends in cool-down time with the parachute.

Wednesday, 3:45-4:30 pm
Children ages 3.5-5 will be able to use their imagination and express themselves through song and
dance in a warm, nurturing environment! A broad variety of songs will be learned in this class:
time-honored childhood, broadway show tunes and Disney classics! Storytelling through music is
a wonderful way for children to expand their dramatic play and build relationships with their peers.
Ballet/taP COMBO
tuesday 4-5:30 pm
This class offers a great beginning for children who are taking
ballet for the first time, encouraging their creative self-expression
while providing a strong grounding in basic ballet technique.
For the tap portion of the class, children will learn rhythm,
technique, and basic steps in a sequence based on the syllabus
from the renowned Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, where
instructor Somer Adams studied and received her teaching credentials. Appropriate dance attire recommended. Tap shoes required.
tuesday 3:30-4:30 pm
In our Panda buddies program, preschool-aged children learn Mandarin language and culture through
music, movement, crafts, dramatic play, science, and games. This class is small so children receive
individual attention.

supplies, books, and fun to children in the New York City area and overseas.
Field trips (Fridays throughout the year) Through our partnership with Volunteers of America/Greater New York, children
from the bronx Early Learning Center and the Regent Family Residence come to Rutgers for field trips to our art studio and
classrooms, or we travel to them to provide fun and support to their staffs.

come together to make special art projects and donate childrens books. Check our website or Facebook page for further
