GMAT
A good number of students appear for both GRE and GMAT and you might be in a
dilemma as to how they differ from each other, what their exact corresponding
natures are which one you should opt for. So here are a few tidbits to guide you
through.
Test Takers
Graduate Record Examination or GRE witnesses more than six lakhs fifty five
thousand examinees each year while Graduate Management Admissions Test
or GMAT experiences around two lakhs fifty thousand annually.
Students vying for masters degree or entrance in business schools take the
GRE while GMAT aspirants are specifically business school hopefuls.
Target Institutions
More than 1100 institutes and universities accept GRE score for their
business programs. More than 1700 institutions and universities globally
accept GMAT score for more than 5600 business related courses. GMAT has
an upper hand on this since it is an ultimatum in the case of admission
requirements.

The exams are conducted in computer based examination centers all globally.
However, GRE has an advantage over GMAT since it offers paper based test
facilities almost thrice a year in parts of the world where computer based
testing facilities are not available.
Verbal Section
Quantitative Section
You may be rather glad to know that for the Quantitative Section, GRE is
simpler than GMAT.
Both GRE and GMAT quantitative sections are similar consisting of algebra,
arithmetic, geometry, word problems and data interpretation.
The nature of questions for GRE is multiple choice, multiple answer, numeric
entry and quantitative comparisons. The nature of questions for GRE takes in
problem solving and data sufficiency.
GRE allows the use of calculators though complete dependence often proves
to be hindrance since most of the calculations can be performed manually in
lesser time. GMAT however totally forbids the use of calculator and thus
demands high calculative skills. So be prepared with mental mathematics.
Time Trouble
The duration of GRE is 3 hrs 45 minutes and that of GMAT 3 hrs 30 minutes.
Both include brief recesses.
Scoring
Combined score-200-800
For GRE the combined score of 325 and above would be a handsome score.
For GMAT the combined score of 700 and above will get you through your aspired
institution.
