1)what is your opinion of using ICT in teaching and learning?

Teachers should not be afraid of smartphones and digital devices

in schools as the usage of ICT is introduced to ease the burden of
teachers, bridge the class divide and bring the world which is an
oyster to the four walls of the classroom.
I really enjoy this new way of learning with my classmates. It is
easy, fun and safe for us to explore the Internet for research,
socialize, work on projects and assignments together, upload our
work, and even do our presentations using Microsoft Office 365
on Surface.
Teachers at SK TTDI 1 are also experiencing better productivity
and collaboration with their students and fellow faculty members
since going onto Office 365. Fauzi Aziz, a Science teacher with SK
TTDI 1 said, One of the key advantages of using Office 365 is
that we are familiar with it. More importantly, we now have the
capability to share information seamlessly between teachers and
students, and between students themselves. With Surface,
teachers at the school are now more mobile and productive when
it comes to teaching our students.

2)

How does ICT help to develop student potential to compete

globally?
Education is a key area that is crucial towards achieving the
countrys aspirations of becoming a high-income, knowledgebased nation by 2020. Microsoft reiterated its strong partnership
and support to the Government in placing technology into the
hands of educators and students, to equip them with 21st
century skills in preparation for the jobs of tomorrow.
Employers increasingly expect digital literacy and other 21st
century skills: communication, collaboration, creative thinking,
and problem-solving. This drives the demand for a highly

equipped teaching force with ability to personalize instruction and

address the needs of every student. Preparing students for the
workforce is our top priority. Todays students are tomorrows
global workforce thus it is important for they to be prepared with
the technology and cognitive skills they need to succeed.
We cant educate tomorrows leaders with tools and practices
from the past. Microsoft programs such as Expert Educators and
Mentor Schools are our way of supporting that commitment to
help educators and school leaders use technology to prepare
their `students for the 21st century. We believe in the
transformative power of technology in education and are fully
committed to the success of each educator and student. At DESA
2014, we are very proud to bring these beneficiaries into the
spotlight to show how Microsoft technology is transforming their
learning and teaching experiences.

distinctive teaching and learning approach, which emphasizes

thinking, problem solving and values education, all of which are
necessary to succeed in todays 21st century world
2)

What is the major barrier as teacher that prevent all of us from

meeting these expectation?
Digitalising education is an ambitious but much needed step to
advance our education and ultimately
to reach a level that is on par with developed nations. But as
with any change, we must be fully prepared for new
responsibilities.
The findings indicate that the teachers are highly skilled in
information seeking/sharing ,Basic ICT skills, and Internet skills
for communication
However, the respondents level for the Advanced ICT Skills is
at the Moderate level
there are significant differences in the use of ICT for searching
educational resources, creating presentation/delivery materials,
and preparing lesson plan for teachers in the different age
groups. Ample and continuous trainings should also be
conducted to ensure that our teachers are competent in using
ICT. This in return, will produce a generation of students with
high levels of ICT skills in the future.
However, they still lack some competencies in Advanced ICT
skills including the graphics, animation and multimedia
production. Thus, the teachers should be exposed to the
trainings related to these skills.
Finally, the junior teachers use ICT significantly more frequent
than their senior colleagues for teaching and learning,
searching educational resources, and creating
presentation/delivery materials. Thus, senior teachers should
be encouraged to use ICT in their teaching and learning

activities more frequent so that they will not be left behind in

terms of ICT skills.
