member of Canon's autofocus, compact 35mm family, lt is equipped not
only with autofocus, but with autowind, auto rewind, autoload, auto
exposure, and prefocusing capability
as well. lt produces the same highquality pictures as Canon's other
compact autofocus camera$, yet is
very light and compact. lt suits both

with the camera by first taking so/ne
pictures without any film loaded in the
camera. Load the camera with film
once you feel comfortable with all operations.

Loading the Batteries


This camera will not work without batteries.
Use two new size-AA1.5Vbatteriesof the
same brand.We recommendusingalkaline
(LR6) batteries.Carbon-zincbatteriescan
alsobe used.buttheirlifeis shorter.
DONOTuseNi-Cdbatteries.
1. Wipe the batteryterminalswith a clean,
dryclothto ensurepropercontact.
2. Pushdown on the batterychambercover
@ and slideit in the directionof the arrowto
openthecover.

Setting the Film Speed


For correct exposure,set the film speed

Loading the Film
Usecoloror blackand whitefilm in standard
35mm cartridges.
Loadthe film in subdued

GAUTION:AvoidX-ravchecks
Film passing through X-ray examinations at airpons,
even when loaded in a camera, may be exposed
and ruined. To avoid accidental exposure, tell the
Inspector you want your camera and film hand
checked.

1. Pushthe back coveropeninglatch @ in


the directionof the arrowto open the back
cover.
2. Insertthe upper,flat end of the cartridge
into the film chamberfirst,then lower the
other end. The cartridgeshould be fully
seated,nottippedupward.

3. Pullthe film leaderacrossthe backso that


it s ti p i s alignedwit h t he o ra n g el i n ei n th e
lowerrighthandcornerof thefilmchamber.
4. Placethefilmbetweenthe filmguides,
and
closethe backcover.
5. Pressthe shutterbuttonC severaltimes
until the frame counterreaches"1." lf the
framecountermoves,
thefilmis beingproperly transported.

f ilm.

lf the film leader extends past the orange line, manually wind the excess film back into the film cartridge.
Film will not wind properly if there is too much film
slack.

Shooting
1. Lookthroughthe viewfinder@ and compose the picture so that the main subject
coversthe autofocusspot.
For close subjects between90cm (3 ft.) and one
meter(3.3ft.),composethe pictureso thatthe subject
is withinthe parallaxcorrectionframeinsidethe viewfinder.The closest possible shooting distance is
90cm.

2. Gently press the shutter button O

lampblinksrapidly,switchto flash.Thislampwarnsyouwhen
insufficientlight may cause overlydark or
blurredpictures.
3. Hold the camera in both hands with at
leastone elbowsteadiedagainstyour body.

Special Subjects
Thereare a few types of subjectsfor which
the autofocussystemis not perfectlysuited.
Theyinclude:
1. Glossysubjects(exteriorof a car, glass,
water).
2. Subjectswhichhavelittleor no reflectance
(blackhair,fire,fireworks,
blackout
curtains).
Forthesetypesof subjects,it is best to preSubject

focus.Followthe stepsfor prefocusinglisted


on page16,butin step2,composethepicture
so thata substitute
subject,
whichis thesame
distancefromyouas the mainsubject,covers
the autofocusspot.

Using the Built-in Flash

Cancellation
It is possibleto cancelthe self-timerbefore
youpresstheshutterbuttonsimplyby rotating
the self-timerleverback to its originalposition. To cancel the self{imer after you've
pressedthe shutterbutton,followthe same
procedurefor prefocuscancellation.(See
p a g e1 7 .)
