Zealous moms were voting multiple times for their babies on
the Web site of cute baby contest sponsor Baby Sightings, said
Krystal Bond, owner of the local ultrasound company. That’s
when it was decided to choose by drawing the cutest kid out of
70 entrants ages 2 and under, she said.
The young winner will get four tickets to Disneyland, an outfit
from children’s clothing store Spoiled Rotten, and his or her
photo on the cover of the Bakersfield Kids’ Directory.
Four runners-up will receive gift certificates to Spoiled Rot-
ten, Bond said.
The Rosedale Highway children’s boutique will show off its
apparel on the runway. Spoiled Rotten carries clothing for
babies to preteens, said owner Kristi Nikkel.
Birthday shirts are one of her hottest items, she said. They
feature the child’s numerical birthdate with her name and a
flourish, such as a crown.
One of the latest trends in maternity clothing is the BellaBand
($26), said Bond of Baby Sightings, which sells clothing for
moms-to-be. It’s a stretchy Lycra band that resembles a layered
tee. The BellaBand allows moms in pregnancy’s early stages to
wear their normal clothes longer, until they can fit into larger
maternity clothes.
Bond also sells snarky tees for pregnant women, with sayings
such as “Knocked Up” and “Pregnant, Not Fat.” GO & DO
