Essay:
1) Betty Friedans book was interviewed at smith, upper class white
women, women of color were not included. Did not address issues
and concerns of every woman. In the 2nd wave, women of color
were included, but their issues were not brought up, not
intersectionality. Issues were welfare, abortion, reproductive rights,
lesbians were not allowed to associate with feminists.
2) Gendered norms- stay at home mom, women take care of house.
Family establishes what is normal, father patriarch? Social norms of
family, the fact that one has to get married and start a family,
family is normal
3) Combahee river collective- black women were committed to
fighting race, sex, and classism. They just want to be human, as a
person. Solidarty with different people, create allies. Personal is
political (similarity) Combahee fought sexual oppression, third wave
was pro sex.
4) Ana excersizes agency, wants education, rejects norms, goes
against families wishes
5) Sapphire- angry black woman, mammy, resist in mass media,
shonda rhimes writes
