Referral to appropriate assessment

and support specialists
We are able to refer you to external specialists
such as educational psychologists and learning
support tutors, and thereby provide you with the
appropriate expertise to help you succeed on your
chosen course.

Screening for specific learning difficulties

If you suspect that you may have a specific
learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, you can
undertake our screening process free of charge.
This involves a one-to- one interview where you
can discuss your particular difficulties in
confidence. We will then advise you of how to
access a more formal assessment and any
relevant funding and support.

Advice and guidance before and

during your time at university
There may be all kinds of questions and concerns
you have about coming to university or being a
student. We are here to advise and support you
as an applicant and student to ensure you get full
access to what the university has to offer, and any
extra assistance needed to put you on a level
playing field with your peers.

As a disabled student you may face obstacles

to learning. Funding is available to meet the cost
of assistance such as equipment and learning
support. We can help you apply to your Local
Authority (LA) to request specialist equipment
(such as computers and software), as well as
educational support workers (such as note-takers
and interpreters).

Come and see us!

The main office is situated on the ground
floor of the Manor House at Moulsecoomb
Place (second door on the left) and is open
for students to drop in from 11am until 3pm
during term-time. You can come into the
office during these times for initial advice,
information and, where relevant, an
appointment with the appropriate member
of staff in the team.
Support Officers are also available at the
Grand Parade, Eastbourne and Falmer
sites, although timings may vary. Please
contact us for details.

Academic support workers

Partner college students should seek

support at their place of study in the first
instance. If students are not able to do so,
then they should contact the university
services directly.

As a team, we take responsibility for the allocation

of academic support workers such as note-takers,
exam assistants and mentors. We can also help
by providing IT training for any specialist software
or hardware you may need for studying.

To make an appointment with one of the

team, for further guidance on who you
should see or for any other enquiries,
please do not hesitate to contact us and
we will be happy to help.

Liaison with university staff

We advise academic staff and departments on
how to meet your disability-related learning,
teaching and assessment needs to enable you to
fulfil your potential. We can also help liaise with
non-academic departments within the university to
help ensure fair access is provided.
