GUIDELINES ON BROADCAST INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Course Number: Prac. 01a


Course Description: This course allows the students to learn actual
production from the broadcast stations
selected for the program.
Pre-requisite: Communication 7

WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE BROADCAST INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS?

1. Students who have successfully finished Communication 7 (Radio &


TV Production and Scriptwriting).

2. Students must be of junior standing as of the time internship program


is to be enrolled.

3. The student should be of good moral character.

WHEN CAN THE STUDENTS TAKE BROADCAST INTERNSHIP?

➢ The best time to have internship is during summer when students have
no regular loads in school. This allows the students to concentrate on
the internship program.

➢ If the students cannot, for any reason, have internship during the
summer period, then they can take the course during the first semester
of their senior year. Doing so, however, can limit the students’ chance
to maximize internship opportunities (e.g. they won’t be able to
participate in out-of-town trips or late-night gigs necessary for
production, as required by some companies).

WHERE CAN THE STUDENTS TAKE BROADCAST INTERNSHIP?

➢ Students are allowed to have internship in Region 3 or in Metro Manila;


the choice of place shall depend on their choice of company.
** Students must consider several factors in choosing place for internship: (a)
the company where they want to have internship; (b) travel expense; (c) board
and lodging expenses; (d) their health; and (e) parents’ willingness to support
their choice of internship.

HOW CAN THE STUDENTS FIND COMPANIES FOR INTERNSHIP?

The Broadcast Internship Program allows the students to choose a broadcast


station which is willing to accommodate them as interns. Here are some
options that can help in finding companies:

1. Students are encouraged to consult the Internship Listings which


contain the list of the broadcast stations with the corresponding
addresses and contact persons. Students may get the details and go
to the specified address or contact the person to inquire about how
they can get accepted in the company. The Internship Listings shall
be available through the Internship adviser.

2. Students are advised to attend the scheduled Internship Forum


which is a venue for the senior students to share their internship
experiences. This forum allows the junior students to make
intelligent choices on internship matters.

3. Students who have access to broadcast stations (e.g. thru a friend or


relative) may do their own Internship Search to help them decide in
choosing a company to work for.

WHAT ACCESSIBLE COMPANIES ACCOMMODATE INTERNS?

➢ Television stations
Local: PEP-TV
Regional: CLTV 36 and ABS-CBN Pampanga
National: ABS-CBN, GMA (including TV and New Media), NBN,
SOLAR Entertainment, ABS-CBN News Channel

➢ Advertising agencies : JimenezBasic, Adworks

➢ Radio stations
Local: 104.1 DWAU, 99.1 GVFM, DWRW
National: DZMM, other radio stations in Metro Manila

HOW SHOULD THE STUDENTS REGISTER FOR AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM?

1. Read the Internship Guidelines.


2. Find a company for internship program.
3. Fill out an Internship Advisement slip.
4. Request for a Recommendation Letter from the internship adviser.
5. Go to the company and apply for internship by accomplishing and
submitting all the documents required by the Internship supervisor.
6. Begin with the internship as soon as the company approves your
application.
7. Submit periodical report to your Internship adviser. This can be done
through e-mail, fax, or through phone calls.
8. End internship by asking the Internship supervisor to accomplish all
necessary forms, e.g. evaluation form and testimonial.
9. Submit the Internship portfolio to the adviser after filling out Internship
Feedback Form.
10. Earn the three-unit credit for the course.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM?

Each student is required to


1. Complete at least 100 hours of working experience with the
company.
2. Submit an INTERNSHIP PORTFOLIO at the end of the internship
program. The portfolio contains the following:

➢ Properly accomplished STUDENT EVALUATION FORM to be


filled out by the Internship supervisor. The supervisor should
be requested to seal the envelope containing the evaluation
form. Unsealed envelopes are not credited.
➢ Certificate of internship specifying the number of hours
completed by the students.
➢ At least three testimonials from the production staff and/or
from fellow interns.
➢ Company Profile which can be obtained through interview
with any staff or through own research.
➢ Internship Diary containing daily notes on the students’
internship activities.
➢ A personal reflection essay about the Internship experiences.
➢ Documentation of internship which includes photos,
attendance log, agreement forms with the company, sample
programs (in CDs) produced by the specific department where
the students are having internship, etc.
