RECOMMENDATIONS FROM FEBRUARY 9, 2015

Township of Chatsworth Roads Overtime Policy

The Committee has reviewed a new Township of Chatsworth Roads Overtime Policy.
The purpose of the Policy is to provide roads employees with appropriate compensation
for overtime hours worked.
Recommendation: The recommendation of the HR Committee is to fonruard the policy to
Council for their consideration at a Council meeting.

Policy Statement
The Township recognizes that roads employees work schedules are diverse and as a result
require employees to work overtime during busy times in order to provide municipal services.

Purpose
The Township of Chatsworth is committed to providing roads employees with appropriate
compensation for overtime hours worked, in accordance with the law.

Scope
This policy applies to all Township Roads employees. This policy is effective starting January

26,2015.

Definition
Overtime - Work completed outside of regular working hours.
Overtime pay - Monetary or paid time off compensation for the hours employees work in
excess of forty four (45) hours in one workweek.
Banked Time (Lieu Time) - Employees may bank time for working overtime (over 45 hours
per week) and will be compensated at a premium rate; you will be given equivalent
compensatory time off for the actual hours worked (e.9. if you work 2 hours of overtime you
will receive 3 hours of paid time off as compensation).

Overtime must be approved by the employee's supervisor.


Overtime shall apply after 45 hours worked.
Time and one half shall be paid for any work performed on a Sunday, regardless of
any other amount of hours worked in the balance of the week. Sunday shall be
regarded as a separate day and shall not be used in the calculation of overtime for the
balance of the week.
Overtime may be banked (lieu time) to a maximum of the equivalent of 120 regular
hours. Banked hours shall be used before vacation time.
Banked time must be approved by your supervisor and scheduled.
Employees who do not gain approval before working overtime hours may be subject to
discipline. Subsequent offences may result in disciplinary action up to or including
termination.
Supervisors who authorize overtime on a regular basis, where it should not be
necessary, will receive a warning from management and may be placed on a
performance improvement plan.

Employees who work overtime on a Statutory Holiday will be given a premium of time
and one half plus regular time for that day. Employees can also choose to substitute
another day for the Statutory Holiday
