he NJIT Highlanders mens basketball team is 15-10 and in the midst of its best season since the programs transition to Division-I for the 2006-07 season. With four regular-season games remaining for the
nations lone independent, here are some interesting facts about both Highlander team and individual
accolades.

TEAM:
With one more win, NJIT will tie its program record for victories in a season (16-13 in 2012-13). The last
time the Highlanders won more than 16 in a single-season was during a Division-II season in 2002-03, in which
NJIT finished 18-12.
At 15-10, NJIT is tied with its all-time, high-water mark of five games above .500 (was 16-11 on March
2, 2013 during the 2012-13 season). The Highlanders havent been six above .500 since a Division-II season in
2002-03, when they went nine up at 18-9 on Feb. 22, 2003.
With a win Friday (vs. Albany), NJIT will tie its program-record, six-game winning streak set 2/1/112/19/11. The Highlanders current five-game winning streak ties their season-high (12/30/13-1/14/14) and is just
the third five-gamer in program history (also 2/6/13-3/2/13). The last time the program won more than six in a row
was during a Division-III season in 1994-95, when NJIT boasted a 22-game winning streak from 1/4/95-3/10/95
during a 28-2 campaign.
NJIT has won 10 of its last 11 games the best 11-game stretch during the Division-I era and since the
Division-III Highlanders 22-game winning streak in 1994-95. NJIT never had as successful a stretch during the
Division-II era (1997-98 through 2005-06).
NJIT has set an all-time, single-season record with 13 victories against Division-I opponents (previously 12, 2012-13).
NJIT is 9-1 (.900) at home with four home games remaining. The Highlanders have a chance to finish with
their best home winning percentage all-time (.800 at 13-2 in 2012-13) as well as a shot at their highest
home win total in a season (12 in 2012-13).

NJIT tied a program record for road victories in season with six (6-9); went 6-10 in 2013-14.

NJIT has the highest win total by an NCAA independent since 2011-12, when Cal State Bakersfield went
16-14. With three more wins, the Highlanders would have 18 wins and the most by an independent since Seattle
University went 21-8 in 2008-09, a year there were 15 independent programs.
NJIT has recorded wins against seven different Division-I conferences: Atlantic 10, America East (3),
BIG Ten, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern (3), Northeast (3) and Sun Belt

NJIT has both an NCAA RPI & Pomeroy Rating of 176 (of 351 Division-I programs) In other well-respected
rankings, the Highlanders sit 120 according to Basketball State and 182 in the Jeff Sagarin Ratings Prior, the
Highlanders highest season-ending RPI was 298 in 2012-13.
NJITs NCAA RPI of 176 ranks higher than 80.0% (24-of-30) of teams in three local conferences that
havent invited the Highlanders to become members. They rank higher than seven of nine (77.8%) teams in
America East (AE); eight of 10 (80.0%) teams in the Northeast (NEC); and nine of 11 (81.8%) teams in the Metro
Atlantic (MAAC).
For the past three weeks, NJIT has appeared in Others Receiving Votes in the CollegeInsider.com MidMajor Top 25 (the programs first appearances). In the latest poll released on Feb. 9 NJIT received a program-best 11 votes (they received six votes in each of their first two appearances).
Since Jan. 8, 2011, NJIT has posted an impressive 72-61 (.541) overall record in its last 133 games after the
Highlanders started Division-I era at 18-114.

SIGNATURE WINS:

11/29/14: W, 84-81 @ Duquesne


o Not only NJITs first road win against an Atlantic 10 team, but the programs first against an A10 team alltime (started 0-5).

12/6/14: W, 72-70 @ 17-Michigan


o Not only NJITs first win against a nationally ranked team, it was the first time the program faced a team
currently in the Top-25.
o NJITs first win against a Big Ten team (started 0-1).

12/6/14: W, 68-66 vs. St. Francis Brooklyn


o St. Francis Brooklyn was selected No. 1 in the NEC preseason coaches poll.
o St. Francis Brooklyn currently sits atop the NEC (16-9, 10-2) and has a 154 RPI.
o NJIT was 0-4 vs. St. Francis Brooklyn in the Division-I era; and 0-9 in program history.

1/9/15: W, 78-71 vs. Yale


o Yale had an NCAA RPI of 65 coming into the contest.
o Yale was selected No. 2 in the Ivy League preseason coaches poll.
o Yale currently sits in a tie for first place in the Ivy League at 16-7, 5-1.
o NJITs first win against an Ivy League team (started 0-11)

INTERESTING TEAM STATS:

NJIT gets 56.7% (999-of-1756) of its scoring from underclassman.

NJIT gets 86.6% (1520-of-1756) of its scoring players eligible to return next season.

NJIT ranks tied for 16th in the nation in Total 3-Point Field Goals (209).

NJIT ranks tied for 27th in the nation in Assists (368).

o 14th in the nation in Points Per Game (17.5) for an underclassman

Sophomore Damon Lynn:


o Has a chance at becoming the first Highlander to record 500 points (438) and 100 assists (93) in a
season... He needs to average 15.5 ppg and 1.8 apg over the final four games.
o Has a chance to reach the 1000-pt club in just two seasons. At 938 points, he needs to average 15.5
ppg over the final four games.
o Needs 80 more points to break the NJIT record for points in a season, held by Isaiah Wilkerson, who
scored 517 in 32 games in 2011-12.
o Needs 13 more points to break the NJIT record for assists in a season, held by teammate Ky Howard,
who recorded 105 in 27 games in 2013-14

Sophomore Tim Coleman (Union, N.J.) is averaging 14.8 ppg over his last 13 games, shooting .605 FG (going from 6.8 ppg to 11.0 ppg).

Since losing junior point guard Ky Howard to an ankle injury seven games ago (after 1/9 win over Yale):
