In this modern age where
technology is so often in the
forefront of everything we do,
it has firmly ingrained itself in
the way college-aged singles
choose to find love. Between
OkCupid, Match.com, Hot Or
Not, and even Tinder and Grindr amongst others, there is no
shortage of outlets for actively
looking, college-aged singles.
One of the biggest questions
asked about these love-vessels
is what purpose do they really
serve? Are these websites and
applications meant to truly
help singles find the one, or
are they just another outlet to
promote hook up culture?
Well, it may depend on
what outlet that person chooses to use.
People who go on Tinder,
its obviously a hook-up app,
said Matt McInnis, a sophomore Youre not looking for

better to have someone in
your bed, than it is to sit there
alone.
But when asked about OkCupid and Match.com, McInnis was adamant in saying that
those outlets are for dating
and long-term relationships.
One thing is for sure: these
online dating websites and applications make meeting other
singles significantly easier.

NEWS BRIEF
The Boston Police Department is actively investigating
a fatal shooting that occurred in the area of 891 Centre St.
in Jamaica Plain. The shooting took place at 10:35 a.m. on
Wednesday, according to a statement on the police blog. During a routine patrol, officers heard shots fired and pursued
two individuals on foot and were fired upon by at least one
of the individuals, the website said. Officers were able to restrain two individuals fleeing from the scene.
Commissioner William Evans said of the pursuit, None
of our officers were injured, but again used tremendous restraint and regard for the safety of the public when quickly reacting and detaining these two individuals. The victim of the shooting was described as a male in his 20s, and
was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot
wounds. Police ask anyone who may have information to call
detectives at 617-343-4470.

A brief handshake was presented between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko when talks have gone
under way in order to create a peace treaty between the two countries,
according to BBC. Russia had been accused of reinforcing rebels in eastern Russia, which Putin denies. With the goal of a demilitarised zone and
withdrawing heavy weapons, the ceasefire bid is being monitored and
brokered by French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor
Angela Merkel. Even though there were talk last September, the rebels
are now looking for a truce based off the recent gains in the past few
weeks, according to reports by BBC. With a dramatic rise in casualties in
recent days, more than 5,400 people have been killed since the conflict

already had a kind of Twitter to communicate with each other, Fan said of
Weibo.
According to CNBC, Facebook has
been campaigning its way into China
by laying new foundations to meet
Chinese government regulations, although loosening their stance is not
within Chinas priorities.
But the Internet restrictions go beyond just means of communication.
Researchers, students, and instructors
have reported difficulty accessing information they need, according to The
New York Times.
Commerce is also affected by Internet restrictions.
In order to attract and promote
world-class commercial enterprises,
said James Zimmerman, chairman of
the American Chamber of Commerce
in China, to NYT, the government
needs to encourage the use of the
Internet as a crucial medium for the
sharing of information and ideas to
promote economic growth and development.
For Chinese who have left their
homeland, finding jobs in China in
plans to return home can also be complicated if they use the Internet to find
them, so the trouble of accessing data
flows not only from inside out, but
also from outside in.
When I was [in China]," Fan said,
I used Google before, and sometimes
I just couldnt get the thing I was looking for.
Trying to search on topics related
to China, she encounters the same
problems using Google in Boston.
Here, I really use Google, Fan
said, but when I try to search for
Chinese articles, its not enough. I
was trying to find information for a
research paper. I was trying to search
for particular book name.
Google search did not provide the
results she needed, so she resorted
to the Chinese alternative of Google,
Baidu.
There must be a different database, Fan said.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' soundtrack blends the best of music's old and new
Haley Peabody

Just prior to its highly anticipated Valentines Day premiere, Fifty Shades of Grey
released the soundtrack that
will accompany the film on
Tuesday. The compilation,
which features a wide range
of artists who span across decades and genres, features a
total of 16 tracks, several of
which were written specifically
for the film.
The album begins with I
Put a Spell on You by Scottish
singer-songwriter, Annie Lennox. The classic ballad, which
expertly sets the tone for the
entire soundtrack, makes for
a great opening statement as
well as timely one, since she
performed the song live at the
57th Grammy Awards with fellow musician Hozier on Sunday.
Lennox is not the only
Grammy winning artist featured on the soundtrack.
American Composer Danny
Elfman, known for his work on

and Did That Hurt? Both orchestra pieces are subtle and
relatively
unimpressive
in
comparison to Elfmans previ-
ous work.
In addition to the orchestra pieces, the soundtrack also
features a remastered version of the song Witchcraft,
by beloved American singer,
Frank Sinatra. The song has a
classic, swanky jazz feel that
blends well amongst the array of contemporary musicians
featured on the album.
Amongst the contemporary artists that the album is
mainly comprised of are Ellie
Goulding, The Weeknd, Sia,
and Beyonc.
Goulding, who has the most
upbeat of the songs on the album, wrote the song Love Me
Like You Do specifically for
the soundtrack. The melody
is incredibly catchy and fun,
while still remaining a love
song. It is perhaps the best on
the album, and one that will
easily be stuck in your head.
Sias track, Salted Wound,
was also written solely for the
film, yet is far more mellow
than Gouldings. Its not what
the track listeners may expect
from Sia based on her previous hit Chandelier. Nowhere
on the track does Sia showcase her powerhouse vocals,

Possibly inspired by Elle
Woods from the movie Legally
Blonde, Harvard administrators on Wednesday announced
to that all faculty any sexual or
romantic relations with undergrads are prohibited. Not only
does this limit students and
professors ability to choose
whom they want to be intimate
with, but it also constrains
their ability to find pure happiness. I can prove this using a
personal story -- my father was
once my mothers professor in

Harvards

policy also says that professors

But these seemingly elementary concepts are important throughout our entire

So, it was no surprise that
many people were completely
dumbfounded to learn that

After starting the 2014-15 season
in impressive fashion with a 6-0-1
record in November, the Suffolk mens
hockey team has since struggled to
earn points in bunches. Since their
scorching hot start, the team has gone
4-7-1, and has dropped to fourth place
in the ECAC conference.
This week was tough, our team
has been ravaged by the flu, and we
lost practices due to the weather,
said head coach Chris Glionna, who
is in his 11th season with the team.
We lost in overtime to Johnson &
Wales on a penalty shot and lost by
a goal to the first place team Nichols,
3-2. Obviously we didnt play well on
the road at Salve Regina. I think once
we get healthy, we will start winning
again.
The Rams have gone 10-8-1 overall
thus far, and 4-3-1 in conference play.
Health has undoubtedly been an
issue among students and student
athletes this season. The mens hockey
team was hit exceptionally hard by
the flu. Despite the sickness and the
disaster weather, mens hockey has
come to play day in and day out.
With the exception of their road
loss to Salve Regina, the Rams have
been focused through each game until
the horn sounds. On their three-game
losing streak, two of the three losses
have been by one goal.
The Rams goal differential not
just recently but throughout the entire
season stands at a razor thin minusthree. Its evident that this seasons
ECAC conference is a very balanced
group.
Despite the three-game dry streak,
the Rams offense has continued to
look solid. They have averaged just
more than three goals per contest.
Even in their down month of
January, the group managed to score
24 goals in eight games. One of the
offenses most prolific point-getters
has been forward Stanton Turner.
The sophomore has 17 points on the
season, 10 of those coming by finding
the back of the net.
Our league is very tight, anyone
can beat anyone, on any night, Turner
said. I guess the bottom line is that
we need to show up and play the full
60 every night. If we can do that, and

The Lady Rams are currently

with Sam Nwadike, who has
the second most points per

Rams have an opportunity to
climb back in the GNAC top

Nwadike recognizes the
opportunity ahead and realizes
he and the team need to step

We just have to be more
intense on the defensive end,
said Nwadike, a senior. We
havent been shooting it well
as a team either and it shows

our groove back we should
be lethal in terms of high
standings in the GNAC.
