1. Please go through the case Exercising Strategy: Strategy and HRM at Delta Air Lines
(see Annexure I). The case illustrates the interdependence between strategic decision of
how to compete and with what to compete. If you were in charge of HRM for Delta
Air Lines now, what would be your priorities in terms of strategy formulation

and implementation of corresponding HR strategy ? How will you ensure the


successful implementation of the strategy?

a. What recruitment channels would you use to find and attract qualified faculty and

why?

3. Mr. Khan is the Head HR for Infosystem Pvt. Ltd. In Infosystem employees consider it
as a reward those who are selected for on-the-job training in USA for one year as it is
based on performance and potential. Company is also quite selective in choosing the
people for this foreign assignment taking into account the cost factor. The functional area
for the foreign assignment for the year 2011-12 are

The US Counterpart is emphasizing that the candidates sent for foreign assignment should
have prior knowledge about the culture of USA, command over written and spoken English,
and good interpersonal skills. Though the company is full with employees of high technical
skill, but they are recruited from different states with different background, different spoken
language, and different culture. Mr. Khan found that the prior pre-departure trainings saw
poor attendance as more than 50% of them reported work demands which had forces them to
skip the session or leave a session without completing it. Currently the training is instructorled classroom training.
