N

A very special welcome to Asya and Muaz Ahmadsari, Matthew

and Tyson Thomas, Kegan Fenton Todd, Grace and Joshua Jung, Luis
Crossland, Janelle McDermott, Charlotte Watkins and their families
to Kaikorai Primary School!

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
It has been a productive and busy first few
weeks with initial testing being completed and
learning programmes commencing. I encourage all parents
to attend the Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday to
learn more about how you can support your childs
learning at home.
Kaikorai Primary School believes in using the community
to hook your child into their learning and to make it more
meaningful. It has been wonderful to see all three
syndicates have visited (or will be in the near future) a
variety of places including the Orokanui Ecosanctuary,
farms and the art gallery. We cannot provide these
opportunities for your child if it wasnt for the many
parents who donate their time and for that we are truly
grateful.

Junior News
Welcome back to school. We have started with 90 delightful eager learners. Our value this term
is kindness and all classes have been learning about how to Fill your bucket with Kindness.
Our focus this term is about sustainability. We are learning how to sustain friendships. We will
also tie this in to our big inquiry titled From Moo to You.
We are off to the dairy farm on Tuesday the 17th February this should be udderly delightful!!!
We are lucky enough to secure sponsorship from Dairy NZ to pay for the buses. At this stage
we are hoping for lovely weather if it is postponed we will let you know the new date asap.
PMP and Fun Friday began this week we always need help so please come along and support
us.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night at the meet the teacher evening in the hall
at 5.30.
Middle News Middle classes have spent time getting to know each other, setting up routines and creating wonderful
portrait art. Children in the classes are happy and settled and it has been great to see our Year 4 children
return refreshed and our Year 3 children transitioning well into the middle syndicate after a fantastic
summer break.
We are already off to a busy start this term. This week we visited Orokonui Eco-Sanctuary, we learned
about native animals, plants and pests. This was a great start for our Term 1 focus, which is
Sustainability. The children have returned to school with lots of ideas and questions and ready to delve
deeper into understanding what Sustainability is and what it means for them.
Watch your step when you visit the Middle Syndicate in coming weeks, as we have begun creating plants
for our walk through native bush area. Eventually you will see a range of plants and native animals
adorning our walk-way.
We have 12 new Chrome-books and are excited about our plans for using ICT in our classes this year.
We are looking forward to telling you all about it our at our Meet the Teacher evening.

Senior News
Welcome back, everyone. Thank you to parents who have been able to say hello already this
year, and we look forward to catching up with more of you at the meetings that are coming up
this term. Thank you also for helping the children to get their books, sunhats and recorders
ready for their new year.
All classes have started to develop some learning in our school wide theme of Sustainability.
Each class is expanding some of the big ideas in their own unique ways. We have started to
look at how we can influence the improvements for our classrooms, the school and the wider
national and international environments. Everyone has, or can have a role to play, and it is
important to think ahead to the future.

Scholastic Book Orders

Once again the school is offering parents the opportunity to purchase books at a reasonable
price from Scholastic Books. Usually the booklets will go home on a Monday and the orders and
money will be collected on Friday. This year books can also be ordered and paid for on line and
the order will be sent to the school with the schools order. The school also receives Reward Points
which we use to purchase books for the Library. If you have any concerns or problems please
contact me before or after school.

School Tops

Parent Group
PARENTS GROUP AGM
The Kaikorai School Parents Group supports Kaikorai
Primary School by organising social events and
fundraising to provide improved facilities and resources
for the school community.
The Parents Group AGM will be held on Tuesday 24
February at 2pm in the school Staff Room followed
by a regular Parents Group meeting. Everyone is very
welcome to attend.
At the end of last year some Members left the Parents
Group Committee as their children moved on to
intermediate school, so it would be wonderful to have
some new people join the group this year. Being part of
the Parents Group Committee is a great way to meet
other parents and become more involved in your childs
school.
If you have any questions or would like more
information about the Parents Group, then please
contact Tor Devereux (453-1108, 027-635-1512,
devereux@ihug.co.nz).

Just some of the Ipads and Chrome
