Richmond High has a prominent, competitive and fierce badminton team. My passion for the sport grew; I
was yearning to become a member of the badminton family since I was grade 10. I was a bench warmer
in the junior team; cheering for my teammates most of the time with few opportunities to play on court. I
was determined to practice badminton and become the backbone player that my team could rely on, I
started to train. Breaking up the whole into parts, I began rigorous physical training and fundamental
footwork practice on the track; meanwhile attending numerous tournaments to accumulate precious
practical experiences. As time moved on, I improved significantly. In the previous season, I played as the
senior boys doubles on the team. At the final district game, my partner and my performance was
extraordinary; with my last jump smash, we overshoot our opponents and nailed second place in the
entire district, which lead us to the future provincial game. Yet, I was still not satisfied with my skills.
Currently, I am maintaining prolonged and regular training to achieve better performances. Therewithal, I
can conclude that there is no such thing that is unreachable; the only hindrance is the lack of courage and
endurance.

I once held the conviction that China has the best education system in world, for its strict, intense and
competitive system. The opinion still maintained when I was attending a Canadian elementary school,
where I discovered that the difficulty level local curriculum imposed was surprisingly easy. Students
possess way more time for leisure than learning. In order to fill in their timetable, they were involved in
variety of extracurricular activities such as band, sports and anything relevant to their hobbies. Three
years later, when I was attending grade seven, I was arranged to go back to China to continue my
education due to certain circumstances of the family. Quite unwillingly, attending at a Chinese school all of
a sudden, it was shocking that my classmates know nothing beside study academically. The school
restricted their freedom on purchasing their interests and even projecting their uniqueness. Pupils are like
robots manufactured on the same production line lifelessly and monotonously. My view shifted
dramatically, I began to come under the epiphany that discipline and intensity is what a well-developed
education system should preserve, but provide one the foundation to reach for their future is what
construct a system. The Chinese should not only be down to the earth, but also dreams for the sky.

There is always an opinion in my mind that there should be boundary between male and female, under
the influence of Chicness traditional value. However, Canadian culture does not possess such view point.
I have not realized the severity of such issue until I attended school in Canada. School work often
emphasises teamwork especially the communication between members. There were no concern for me
to express my ideas with male partners, but appears to be challenging while getting alone with females. I
am able to talk about physics or math for days, but I can hardly think of a topic or create a comfortable
atmosphere to communicate with females. However, our society promoted the seamless collaboration
between two sexes, and I wish I could emerge into such society. In order to overcome this challenge, I
must break the boundary in my heart. By attending variety of society, I started to become open-minded
and eventually be able to take initiative in interactions. Achieving good grades are indeed important, but
learning to communicate is equally indispensable in order to integrate into any society.
