Note about graphing calculators: We will not be using a graphing calculator for this
course. When reading the text, simply skip any descriptions involving the use of a
graphing calculator.
Course Goals and Objectives:
-To learn concepts of differentiation and integration.
-To apply rules and techniques of differentiation and integration to business, economics,
life, social and physical sciences.
-To continue developing of analytical thinking.
-To learn new methods of mathematical modeling.
Course Policies and Class structure:
Your class will meet four days per week with your instructor. Class time will be split
with your instructor lecturing 2 days of the week, and going over practice problems the
other two days of the week. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken each day at the
beginning of class.
Testing and Assignments:
Midterms: You will have two midterms during the common exam period. Your midterms
will be at 8 am on the following dates: Friday, May 4th and Friday, June 1st . The room
assignments will be posted on your review sheets and on BB Vista. There will be one
cumulative make up exam during week 10 for those who missed ONE of the midterms.
Final Exam: Your final exam will be cumulative and will take place during finals week,
at a time and location TBA by the registrars office. The time and location will be posted
on the Student Resource Center Webpage as well as printed at the top of the final exam
review sheet that will be given out the last week of class.
MyMathLab Homework: MyMathLab provides additional online course materials that match
your textbook. We will be using MyMathLab for graded homework assignments. We will not
drop any homeworks.

Math 102

Spring 2011-2012

Quizzes: You will have quizzes in-class every Friday, beginning Friday of week 2. They
will consist of several questions coming from the previous sections. You can expect the
quiz problems to be the same or similar to the practice problems assigned to each section.
The lowest quiz grade will be dropped and there will be no makeup quizzes.

Attendance and Participation

You will only receive credit for being in class if you are both present and attentive.
Behaviors resulting in getting no credit for attendance include, but are not limited to the
following:
* Talking on your cell phone during class
* Text messaging during class
* Doing homework for other courses while in Math 102 class
* Using a laptop
* Excessive talking to other students
* Reading books, newspapers, magazines during class
* Any other behavior that your fellow students and/or professor find disruptive
Not attending classes will result in losing your final grade points, according to the
following schedule:

* Note for Students who are in the Lebow College of Business:
Before each midterm, a review sheet will be provided. Those review sheets must be
completed by you and uploaded into your e-portfolio.
Grade Breakdown:
Your final grade will be based on the weighted average of the following grades:
MyMathLab homework: 10%
Quizzes: 10% (average of all quizzes, after dropping the lowest one)
Midterm I: 25%
Midterm II: 25%
Final: 30%

Calculator Requirements:
You may use a calculator in this course. We recommend either a Texas Instruments BA II
Plus or a Texas Instruments 30X IIS
However, you may use whatever basic scientific calculator you have or can afford to
purchase. They can be bought for as little as $10.
You may NOT use a calculator of the following types:
calculators that contain electronic dictionaries
calculators with paper tape or printers
calculators that "talk" or make noise
calculators that require an electrical outlet
cell-phone calculators
pocket organizers or personal digital assistants
hand-held minicomputers, PowerBooks, or laptop computers
electronic writing pads or pen-input/stylus-driven devices
graphing calculators
If you have a graphing calculator or cell phone with you during an exam, it will be taken
away from you for the remainder of the test, and returned after the exam has finished.
Students with Disabilities
With proper documentation, students with disabilities can have appropriate accommodations. If
you need any such accommodations, please be sure to get the proper paperwork from the Office
of Disability Services.
