In this typical configuration, the antenna system consists of the RET antenna, BT, SBT, RCU,
and feeders. The AISG port on the SBT is connected to the RCU through an AISG control cable.
NOTE

The common BT transmits DC signal and RF signal, and the OOK BT transmits DC signal, RF signal, and
OOK signal. For the RET antenna system, the OOK BT must be used.
Splitters should be installed if multiple antennas are used in one sector in the case of split sectors. For
details about the installation of splitters, refer to Installing the Splitters. Splitters are installed between
base stations and antennas using jumpers.

The RET antenna can be controlled through the Huawei OMC or the LMT. The OMC or the
LMT sends the control signals to the base station. The base station converts the control signals
into OOK signals, and then transfers the OOK signals and DC power to the BT. Then, the BT
couples the OOK signals and DC power into the internal conductor of Feeder 1.
After the OOK signals and DC power enters the SBT, the DC power is transferred to the RCU
through the control cable between the SBT and the RCU. In the SBT, the OOK signals are
demodulated and converted into RS485 signals. Then, the RS485 signals are sent to the RCU.
After the RCU receives the RS485 signals, it runs the command as specified in the signals.

9 BTS3012 Combined Cabinets and Cabinet Groups

BTS3012 Combined Cabinets and Cabinet

Groups
This describes the BTS3012 combined cabinet and cabinet groups. The BTS3012 can hold more
TRXs through combined cabinets and cabinet groups. One BTS3012 cabinet supports up to 12
TRXs while combined cabinets and combined groups support up to 72 TRXs.

Definitions of Combined Cabinets and Cabinet Groups

l

Combined cabinets
One BT3012 cabinet can hold up to 12 TRXs. Combined cabinets are used when 1224
TRXs are required for synchronized cells. The combined cabinets of the BTS3012 consist
of one main cabinet and one extension cabinet. The cabinet configured with the DTMU is
the main cabinet while the cabinet not configured with the DTMU is the extension cabinet.
The extension cabinet and the main cabinet share the DTMU, through which the clock,
data, and OM signals are sent from the main cabinet to the extension cabinet.

Cabinet groups
If more than 24 TRXs are required by the synchronous cells of a site, the BTS3012 cabinet
groups should be used. A cabinet group can be one main cabinet or two combined cabinets.
The cabinet group that provides synchronization clock signals is called main cabinet group.
The other cabinet groups are called extension cabinet groups. The main cabinet of each
cabinet group can be configured with one or two DTMUs. One BTS3012 cabinet group
supports up to 24 TRXs. A maximum of three cabinet groups can be used to enable the
S24/24/24 configuration. The BTS3012 can form hybrid cabinet groups with the BTS312.
In this case, the BTS3012 serves as the main cabinet group.
E1 signals are transmitted to the DTMUs in the main cabinets of different cabinet groups.
The DTMU in the main cabinet of the main cabinet group sends clock and OM signals to
the main cabinets of the extension cabinet groups. Then, the main cabinets of the extension
cabinet groups send these signals to the extension cabinets of the extension cabinet groups.

Implementation of Combined Cabinets and Cabinet Groups

The BTS3012 supports up to two combined cabinets and three cabinet groups. The combined
cabinets can be installed side by side or back to back. The space between two combined cabinets
must be less than 2 m. For the principles of configuring the BTS3012, refer to Configuration
of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE.

terminal, and then sends the OM signals to the DMCM in the extension cabinet group.

2.

In each cabinet group, the DMCM sends the CBUS2 and DBUS signals to the DDRMs in
the cabinet group through the relevant modules. The DMCM also sends the CBUS3 signals
to the DDPMs in the cabinet group through the relevant modules.

3.

The DDRM and DDPM report their status to the DMCM.

4.

The DMCM obtains the status of the BTS by collecting and analyzing the status of all the
modules, and then transmits the information to the BSC and the MMI terminal over the
Abis interface.

11 Clock Synchronization Modes of the BTS3012

Clock Synchronization Modes of the

BTS3012

About This Chapter

This describes the clock synchronization modes of the BTS3012. The BTS3012 supports three
clock synchronization modes: Abis clock, external reference clock, and internal free-run clock.
Only one synchronization mode can be used at a time. The clock module in the DTMU extracts
and distributes clock signals, and generates free-run clock signals for the BTS3012.
11.1 Synchronization of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE with Abis Clock
This describes the synchronization of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE with Abis clock. The
BTS3012/BTS3012AE supports the extraction of the 2 MHz clock signal through the Abis
interface. In the DTMU, the 2 MHz clock signals are phase-locked and divided into signals with
different frequencies. Then, these clock signals with different frequencies are sent to the boards
and modules for reference.
11.2 Synchronization of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE with External Reference Clock
This describes the synchronization of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE with the external 2 MHz
reference clock. The external reference clock works in the same manner as the Abis clock. As
a high-precision clock reference in the DTMU, the 2 MHz reference clock provides the BTS
with various clock signals and frame numbers.
11.3 Internal Free-Run Clock of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE
This describes the internal free-run clock of the BTS3012/BTS3012AE. The internal reference
clock guarantees the normal operation of the BTS when external reference clocks are
unavailable.

BTS3012
Product Description(for -48V/+24V)

13 Topologies of the BTS

Advantages of the Topology

The chain topology reduces cost in transmission equipment, construction, and transmission link
lease.

Disadvantages of the Topology

l

As signals pass through many nodes, the transmission reliability in the chain topology is
reduced.

The faults in the upper-level BTSs may affect the lower-level BTSs.

The number of levels in a chain network should not exceed five.

NOTE

The BTS3012/BTS3012AE can be configured with DABB, which can implement the bypass function
for the E1 signals when the BTS is powered off. This ensures reliable running of the entire network in
the chain topology.

If the BTS3012/BTS3012AE at the lowest level of the chain topology is powered off, DABB
implements the power-off loopback function to facilitate the loopback test on the transmission link and
fault location.

13.3 Tree Topology of the BTS

This describes the tree topology, which is used in complicated networks and sites, such as vast
areas with centralized hot spots and small areas with many intersections.

Advantages of the Topology

The ring networking has strong self-healing capability, that is, if one point of the link breaks,
the ring network can break into a chain network without interrupting the service.

Disadvantages of the Topology

In the ring topology, there is always one link section that does not transfer data.
