Links Gauntlets (Crochet)

(from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time )

by Emily Hastings
Ive received several requests to translate my
knit Links Gauntlets pattern into crochetthank
you all for your support! This is the crochet version
of the pattern. While these gloves are unavoidably a
little different from their knitted brethren, I think
they definitely capture the same nerdy spirit of the
originals.
If you have any questions or comments, direct
them to Emily-H on Ravelry.
Have fun!

Materials:
Approx. 240 yd of brown worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart With Love in Chocolate.)
Approx. 125 yd. of lighter brown worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe.)
5.0 mm (U.S. H) hook or size needed to obtain gauge (see Notes)
Stitch markers
Skills needed:
Basic crochet stitches
Back loop only stiches
Post stitches
Crochet colorwork (this is really easy in this project, so dont worry if its your first time)
Working in the round (see Notes)
Gauge: Not really important; mine was 4 rows and 3.5 sts per inch in single crochet. Just try the gauntlets
on frequently to make sure theyre fitting.
Notes:
Gauntlet cuffs are worked back and forth in rows then seamed. The body of the glove from the cuff to
the fingers is worked in the round. Stitches for the hand flap are worked on the surface of the fabric
and then back and forth in rows.

The gloves at the specified gauge are rather snug. If you are making them for an adult with larger
forearms, Id suggest going up a hook size.

The body of the glove to the hand uses the joined rounds style of working in the round. The hand and
fingers use the continuous spiral method.

Light brown is A, brown is B.

Glove (Make 2)
Cuff
With A, ch 7. Hdc in 2nd ch from hk and each ch across. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1, hdc blo across. Turn.
Repeat last row until work measures 9 lightly stretched. Ch 1.
Fold piece in half and sl st ends together. Ch 1 and turn inside out so seam is on the inside.
Sc 32 evenly around edge. Sl st in first st to join. Fasten off.
First Band
Join B with sl st to any st.
Next rnd: Ch 1 (does not count as st here and throughout), fpdc in same st and around, sl st to 1st st.

Next rnd: Ch 1 , beg working over A. *2 sc B, 4 sc A, 2 sc B* 4

Repeat last round 3 more times, being sure to keep A to the inside
of work when joining. Cut A.
Next rnd: Ch 1, sc around, sl st to 1st st, turn.
Repeat last round once more.

This section uses a version of

tapestry crocheteach st is
worked over the unused strand of
yarn, encasing it inside the fabric.
Work is turned after each round to
prevent the slant effect that can
occur in this style. To change
colors, complete the final yarn over
of the previous st with the new
color and proceed.

Second Band
Ch 1, fpsc around, sl st to 1st st.
Next rnd: Ch 1, fpdc around, sl st to 1st st.
Repeat last round until band measures 2 (8 from beg).
Second Colorwork Section
Repeat First Colowork Section.
Third Band
Repeat Second Band. (12 from beg).
Start hand
Ch 1, turn, fpsc around. Sl st to 1st st. Fasten off.
Join A. Sc around, decreasing 4 sts evenly.
Thumb Gusset
(For the remainder of the glove, mark first st of round with marker. Do not join or ch unless otherwise
directed.)
Sc 1 rnd even.
Next rnd: 2 sc in 1st st, sc to end.

Work 1 more rnd sc.
Next rnd: Sc until 4 sts rem before end of rnd. Ch 3, sc in 10th st before ch, sc to ch.

Next rnd: Ch 3, sc in 11th st before ch, sc to ch.
Sc 2 rnds even. Sc 3, sl st in next st, fasten off.
Index Finger
Rejoin yarn in old 1st st.
Sc 2 rnds even. Sl st in next st, fasten off.
Thumb
Join yarn to any st in thumb opening.
Sc 3 rnds even. Sl st in next st, fasten off.
Weave in all ends, sewing closed any holes around base of fingers.
Note:
From this point on, everything is optional. You could choose to be done now, or you could make the hand
flap with the colorwork like I did, or you could skip the hand flap and embroider the Triforce directly on the
hand. Just do whatever you think looks the best and works for you.

For this section, work

colorwork as before,
crocheting around the unused
color. I dropped A when
working the background
section around the Triforce,
but it can be carried
throughout if desired.
