PENULISAN JURNAL REFLEKTIF

JURNAL REFLEKTIF
WEEK 4
(10th AUGUST 2014-14th AUGUST 2014)
PROBLEM
One of the issues that I want to highlight during my fourth week of practicum at SJKC
Keat Hwa (S) is the usage of questions and inclusion of moral values for Closure
stage to end up the lesson. I occasionally end my lesson with the summarisation of
the input during Activity 1, inclusion of moral values or questions. Considering the
time allocated for the closure stage is only 1 to 2 minutes, I am trying my best to keep
my closure as simple as it could possibly be. As an example, I would simply raise
such a typical question like Okay, what have we learned today? However, these
typical ways of ending the lesson have eventually slaugthered the momentum of the
fun activity previously, killed the excitement of my pupils etc.
There are numbers of problem that I have detected among the pupils:
1. They cannot making connection and hollistic summarisation of the lesson.
2. They cannot answer the question of what have they learned on that day.
3.

They do not know how to respond to the question which make the closure
session become dull and boring.

ANALYSIS OF PROBLEM
I think the problem arises due to:
1. Young learners are lack of ability in making summarisation. As an example,
they cannot simplify what they have learned and making connection of the
various activities conducted.
2. They are lack of vocabulary to deliver the summarisation. Most of my pupils
can understand English very well. However, they seems to be lacked of
vocabulary to reply my questions.

3. Weakness in constructing full sentence. In order to answer the questions

raised by the teacher, pupils need to come up with simple sentences.
However, they incapabilities to construct a complete sentence has impede
them from responding to the question.
STEPS TO SOLVE PROBLEM
1. The first step to deal with problem is by stop using question to conclude the
lesson.
2. Instead of using question, I can end my lesson with an incomplete sentence
such as, Okay, today we have learned about ..... and let the pupils to
continue the sentence.
3. Using song or jazz chant to conclude the lesson. Young learners love song,
melodic tune and singing. Therefore, the usage of song or jazz chant can
maintain the momentum of the activities and keep pupils enthusiasm until the
end of the class.
DURATION
I will apply the measure from the forth week until the end of the practicum.
FOLLOW UP ACTION
I use simple song or jazz chant for every closure.
EVALUATION OF ACHIEVEMENT
Evaluation of successful will be recorded on the last week of practicum.
