The world had witnessed several developments since its inception. The lifestyle, food habits,
culture and every aspect of a human has got a change. The technology utilization is such intense
that the time taken to manufacture a boat now is equal to the time taken to make one meter of
cloth in 18th century.
The benefits due to huge developments in Science and technology and the gruesome impacts of
it upon society and environment are discussed below.
Benefits to the society
The best discovery by the ancient human is fire. Next to that is the invention of
electricity. With that the human society had made a mighty jump. If it had not
been discovered, the human society would have remained in stone ages.
The marvelous invention that cannot be leftover when expressing the benefits that
technology has given to human society is computer. With the advent of
computers, all the operations performed by people were made easier. Next to air,
water, and food the one which touches almost everyones life is computer. The
current scenario is that without it anything cannot be moved further.
The invention and further developments in automobiles, aero planes and ships
have let people to travel among the continents. It was made possible to witness
and mesmerize the splendid places of the world. Also, the export and import
operations have been enhanced between countries which in turn increased the
commerce sector.
Although, the newer inventions have contributed for better society, certain negative impacts
cannot be overruled. This world is for every creature. Man, the youngest child of nature had
adversely polluted this environment and other creatures. The other side of so-called development
is discussed below.
Almost all methods of power generation have negative impacts. In particular, coal
based power plant emanates harmful particulates which contains high quantity of
sulfur-di-oxide. This affects the humans internal organs and pollutes surrounding
air. Also, every power plant (and industry) pollutes the air which in turn affects
the health of the people.
Steam power plants consume fresh water for its operation and complete recycling
of exploited water resource is not achieved. Thus, water levels in such regions are
getting depleted faster.
Almost every industry consumes fresh water only and fails to recycle it to a
greater extent. They also pollute the surrounding air. The gases like carbon
monoxide, nitrous oxides, and carbon-di-oxide are termed as green house gases
which cause the depletion of ozone layer which leads to global warming.
