Regional Medical Officer (RMO) (Physician)

This position is within the Office of Health Services (OHS) and located in Bangkok,
Thailand. .
Functions and Responsibilities:
1.

Provide medical and administrative support to Director of Volunteer Health


(DVHs) at sub-regional posts. Demonstrate best practices, procedures and quality
assurance.

2.

Provide medical consultative services to Peace Corps Volunteers/Trainees


(PCVs/PCTs) and Peace Corps Response Volunteers through the DVH at subregional posts. Assist as needed with the provision of clinical care and health
education to PCVs.

3.

Manage Regional Medical Evacuation Site (RMES). Oversee the care of


medically- evacuated PCVs. Identify quality health care providers and facilities.
Develop regional medevac procedures for use by DVHs and referral providers.
Act as the primary liaison between the PCV and regional health care providers.

4.

Manage logistics for PCVs requiring medical evacuation, either to a RMES, to the
United States, or to another location. In consultation with the referring DVH and
OHS, determine or provide accompaniment if indicated. Update referring DVH
and OHS on significant changes in status of the evacuated Volunteer. Provide
written summary on all medically evacuated PCVs including clinical findings and
response to treatment.

Provide guidance to sub-regional DVHs regarding the appraisal of local medical


resources throughout the sub-region.

6.

Supervise performance of Regional Medevac Clinical Coordinator


(RMCC) and DVHs in sub region. Complete performance
evaluations as required.

7.

Assist in the mentorship of new DVHs.

8.

Participate in the hiring process of DVHs in sub region.

9.

In consultation with Director, Office of Medical Services, Country Directors


(CDs), and DVHs, determine schedule for periodic visits to sub-regional countries.
Submit country site assessment reports.

10.

Advise staff on appropriate regional public health issues. Coordinate with OHS
on fiscal matters related to Volunteer health care.

11.

Represent OHS in accordance with its policies and procedures.

12.

Communicate with sub-regional DVHs, OHS and the Region regarding relevant
health and medical administrative matters.

13.

Maintain clinical competency and licensure through Peace Corps-sponsored


Continuing Medical Education opportunities and accredited independent study.

14.

Must be able to obtain a US visa.

SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE PROVIDED:


The RMOs scope of practice is limited to PCVs/PCT and Peace Corps Response
Volunteers.
The RMO is under the direct administrative supervision of Director, Office of Medical
Services.
