GX 18 3/4"-10,000 Annular BOP, API 16A

6.0 DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY

6.1 Disassembly
WARNING: THIS IS VERY HEAVY EQUIPMENT,
AND EXTREME SAFETY PROCEDURES MUST BE
FOLLOWED DURING LIFTING OPERATIONS. BE
SURE THAT LIFTING EQUIPMENT IS IN GOOD
CONDITION AND CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE
LOAD.

A. Gather Tools and Materials.

NOTE: Except for the tools listed below, disassembly

of the GX Annular BOP can be performed with

standard tools.
1. Assembly Drawing (Refer to Section 9,
Drawings and Bills of Materials")
2. Three piston eyebolt assemblies (1"-8UNC),
Part No. 1009122-05
3. Three opening chamber head eyebolts (7/8"9UNC), Part No. 1900076-09
4. Three head eyebolts (2"-4.5UNC), Part No.
3106903
5. Two sleeve eyebolts (1/2"-13UNC), Part
No. 1900076-05
6. Chain sling, Part No. 1900179-0560.
CAUTION: This sling is for disassembly and
assembly purposes only. Do not use this sling to
lift the annular BOP.
7. Two 3/4"-10 UNC eyebolts, Part No.
1900077-08 (for lifting packing unit)

B. Vent Pressure.

1. Vent the closing and opening chambers to atmosphere, ensuring that no trapped pressure exists
which will cause injury to personnel and/or damage the equipment.
2. Open the valves in the control system to exhaust
the pressure and/or loosen the hydraulic connections to allow the pressure to bleed off.

WARNING: STAND CLEAR OF ESCAPING PRESSURE TO AVOID INJURY

C. Remove Head.

Refer to Figure 6-1 while following this procedure.

Numbers in parenthesis correspond to callouts in
Figure 6-1.
1. Release the annular head (1) by backing off the
radial latches (20). Unscrew the clamping screws
(16) by rotating them counterclockwise four turns
or until the latches shoulder against the body (4).
CAUTION: Take care not to continue turning the
