Suzan Duygu Eristi, Adile Askim Kurt and Muhterem Dindar from the Turkish Online Journal
of Qualitative Inquiry, April 2012 Volume 3, Issue (2) is the first journal that I chose. In the
journal, the study aimed at determining teachers views and their suggestions about process
of technology integration into educational environments and also the problems experienced
in the process.
In the study, the research included a total of 21 teachers teaching at Tepebasi Resat
Benli Elementary School in the city of Eskisehir. Among the 21 teachers, 11 of them were
elementary school teachers and 10 of the rest were field teachers. The participants of the
teachers were 17 females and 4 males.
In order to find the responses to the research questions, the qualitative research
method was applied. The research data were analyzed with the help of thematic analysis.
The research data were collected via the focus-group interviews held with the teachers,
observations and as well as researcher journals. During these interviews, suggestions
regarding effective technology use were mentioned. Apart from that, the macro-level
analyses in the previous focus-group interviews were discussed. Moreover, the researchers
video-recorded the whole process and reported their views and observations regarding the
process via written documents. As mentioned earlier, the thematic analysis includes such
phrases as forming a thematic framework for analysis, data analysis according to the
thematic framework. After all, the interpretation of the findings obtained. In the first phase,
the records of the focus-group interviews held with the teachers were transcribed and
analyzed. Then in the second phase, considering the themes determined within the scope of
the study whereby the teachers views were analyzed. In the third phase, the findings
obtained were first analyzed and then interpreted.
The data collected in the study were gathered under two main themes depending on
the open-ended questions directed to the teachers regarding technology use and on the
related literature. The themes were Problems experienced by teachers regarding
technology use in the class and Suggestions for effective use of technology.
In the survey finding, the data obtained in the study shown that the teachers
experienced problems regarding technology use in class. The problems are failure to keep
up with the technology, failure to use current technologies, problems experienced in the
process of making technology available in class, due to technical faults caused by incorrect
use of technology, due to Internet connection, due to the limitations caused by the physical
conditions of the classroom and of the school, cause by sub-structure deficiencies and

problems caused by ineffective use of technology. Due to that the teachers suggest that it is
the area in which they should develop themselves by keeping up with the technology. Other
teachers views pointed out that keeping with the technology is a responsibility and a
necessity. As technology constantly changes it is the need for using up-to-date technology
as it is a priority for the teachers in the process of effective use of technology. Most of the
teachers agreed on the time lost in making technology available for use in the school. With
respect to the other problems such as technical faults caused by incorrect use of technology.
A majority of teachers agreed on the problems reporting similar views which emphasized on
the important of teachers efficacies. Problem related to the internet connection, most
teachers reported common views on the connection because sometimes the connection is
excellent and sometimes it is poor. This problem lead to the negatives reflections of
ineffective use of the internet. Moreover, most teachers agreed on the sub-structure
deficiencies which lead to the waste of time and ineffective lesson using technology unless it
is made available for effective use then it will be much better and more productive for the
teachers. Certain teachers do not use technology effective. In fact they should be able to use
technology effectively and well so that they can cope with any possible problems occurred.
In order to overcome the problems, the teachers viewed out few suggestions such as
keeping up with the technology whereby it is a necessity for them to be up-date with current
technology. Hence, the teachers should use the available technology facilities or materials
with pleasure so they would face any problems regarding the technology. Besides that, most
teachers suggested that to ensure the effectiveness use of the technology, the teachers as
well as the school board have to make sure the technology facilities ready for use before the
lesson. In the current technology today, the students are more willing to use technology in
class and that they are quite successful in this process. Based on the study, the effective use
of technology able to draw the students attention more to the learning process and that
technology motivated the students to cooperate, build leadership and have the willingness to
search for information. One of the most effective solutions is to train the student for effective
use of technological facilities. By doing that, the teacher can assign task regarding
technology use among the students which practice them to work independently, creative and
innovative.
In conclusion, the integration of technology into education could be achieved by
establishing constant interaction between the teachers and students, by facilitating
technology use and providing students with opportunities to use technology effectively.
