Point

Ray: A part of a line with one

endpoint; it follows a straight
path that goes on forever in
only one direction.

Line: The geometric definition

of a line is a straight path that
has no definite length and goes
on forever in both directions; a
mark made by a pen, pencil, or
other tool on a surface
Line Segment: A part of a line,
which follows a straight path
between two endpoints.

Plane: Plane figures are

geometric figures that lie on flat
surfaces.
Right Angle: An angle that
measures 90 degrees.

Angle: The figure formed when

two rays that have the same
endpoint or two straight lines
meet.
Acute Angle: An angle that
measures less than 90
degrees.

Obtuse Angle: An angle that

measures greater than 90
degrees.
Perpendicular Lines: Two lines
that intersect, forming a right
angle

Straight Angle

Parallel Lines: Any two or

more lines that do not intersect
and are always the same
distance apart.

Polygon: A closed plane figure

formed by three or more line
segments that are joined only
at the endpoints, with each
endpoint connected to only two
line segments.
Right Triangle: A triangle that
has one 90-degree angle

Triangle: A polygon made up of

three sides: the sum of the
angles created by the three
sides is always 180 degrees.

Acute Triangle: A triangle in

which all angles measure less
than 90 degrees.

Obtuse Triangle: A triangle with

one angle that measures
greater than 90 degrees.
Equilateral Triangle: A triangle
with three congruent sides.

Scalene Triangle: A triangle

with no congruent sides.
Isosceles Triangle: A triangle
with two congruent sides.

Quadrilateral: A closed plane

figure formed by four line
segments; a four-sided
polygon; can be a trapezium,
trapezoid, or a parallelogram.
Rhombus: A parallelogram that
has no right angles and four
congruent sides

Parallelogram: A quadrilateral
that has two pairs of parallel
sides; common name for a
rhomboid.
Rectangle: A parallelogram that
has four right angles and only
opposite sides are congruent

Square: A rectangle that

has four congruent sides

Radius: A line segment

from a point on the
circumference of a circle
to the center of the circle

Circle: A simple, closed

curve; a plane figure
bordered by a curved line
called the circumference;
every point on the
circumference is an equal
distance from the center
point of the circle
Diameter: A chord that
passes through the center
of a circle

Prism: A space figure with

polygonal sides and two
congruent parallel bases
Net

Pyramid: A space figure that

has triangular sides and a
single polygonal base.
Platonic Solid

Perimeter: The outer boundary

of a plane figure; the length of
this boundary

Area: The measure of the

number of square units
needed to cover the surface of

Circumference: The perimeter of

a circle; the length of this
boundary.
