Assalamualaikum and a very good morning everyone.

I am
Amirnurullah bin Amiluddin doing Degree in Music Education and
I am in the sixth semester. Today I will give a talk on how the
Internet can be used for education.
Before I start, let us talk about, what is internet. Internet is a
global system of interconnected computer networks. We can use
it to connect people, communities, and countries around the
world. In fact, More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges
of data, news and opinions. What I want so say is, The Internet is
an integral part of our everyday lives.
According to Paris (2003), the Internet may be the most valuable
of the several computer technologies available for students and
teachers. In fact, teachers find the Internet, regarded as the
worlds largest library, to be a valuable educational tool.
Therefore, it is important for teachers to have basic abilities and
skills in internet usage because of its importance to finding
information in the contemporary knowledge based society. I also
believe, failing in to do so will result to define a new type of
illiteracy and alienation from the society. This is in par with a
research done in 2000 about this issue.

The internet has great potential in education. In teaching, first, the

Internet can be used to stimulate learners to learn actively and
independently in a self directed way and in collaboration with
others. Second, teaching/learning materials can be provided for
students on-line. In addition, it encourages the democratization of
education, that is, access to education by all. Every learner has
access to education, anywhere whether at home, school, offices,
and others any time. Easy communication between teacherstudent and student-student on teaching content is also possible.
Furthermore, a teacher can also get teaching material and
resources through the internet. It also provides opportunities for
good teaching strategies because the teacher can read new
teaching strategies online and apply in the classroom. The
relevance for teaching are not exhaustive but a teachers ability
will determine how efficiently the Internet can be exploited to
enhance teaching.

Furthermore, many new teacher websites currently available on

the Internet with ready-made lesson plans and activities on a
broad topics. Listservs and bulletin boards also allow teachers
from all over the world to share their best lesson plans and
suggestions with each other. Of course, when you are considering
using someone else's lesson plan or suggestion, it is important to
read through it and think about whether it will work for your
students. Books and materials for teachers and students can also
be located and purchased online, saving teachers time.
Next, Search engines can be particularly helpful to teachers in
finding almost any kind of information on the Internet. When
teachers become aware of how to find information online, they
can help their students begin to tap into this huge resource. This
skill is useful to students not only for accomplishing their
homework , but also as a survival skill in the modern workplace.
In addition, there are some websites that offer online help from
teachers for students who need assistance with their homework.

As a result, teachers need to always update their computer

skills too in order to teach effectively whether to children or adults.
So the Internet is an exciting resource for teachers. Using the
Internet can make teachers' lives simpler and can provide more
information and resources than ever available before. The
Internet is a way for students and teachers to learn and to
connect with others. Last but not least, the Internet can be just
plain fun for students and teachers alike.
