Sessions 1 - 2 Leader: Marcia Barryte Description: What you bring to the table for the Middle School kid is MORE THAN YOU DREAMED!! - High School kids will realize how much expertise they have and what skills they need to develop to work with directing younger kids: theatre warm ups and games that work with the age group 6th - 8th grade and approaches they would use for each age group and scene work. 2. Title: Tai Chi Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Peter Chen Description: Tai Chi is able to reduce stress and give you more energy. Tai Chi is a most effective way to develop balanced health for the body and the mind. It develops and improves overall health, calmness of mind, relaxation and freedom from stress! Gain strength, coordination, balance, agility and harmony. 3. Title: Mime Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Judi Garrett Description: Students will learn basic mime techniques, principles, and some illusions and will have an opportunity to experiment with them through improvisation. 4. Title: Melodrama Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Dianne Bye Description: Students will understand, through theatre exercises, the stock characters and typical scenarios of the American version of Melodrama. They will create their own melodrama plays and use costume pieces and props to share their presentations to the group. 5. Title: Improvisation - 5 Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: ComedySportz Description: Improvisation is one of the most useful skills an actor can master. Yet few colleges, universities or professional programs provide the training. Here's a chance to learn those skills in a challenging, fun workshop. Explore the tools of improvisation--risk, spontaneity, listening, teamwork, trust, focus, story structure and more, and understand its application to the work of the actor. ComedySportz is the longest running show in Los Angeles (20 years). Check ComedySportzLA.com for info on our summer camps. 6. Title: Improvisation - 6 Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: ComedySportz Description: Improvisation is one of the most useful skills an actor can master. Title: Instant Shakespeare: Add Water and Stir Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: Carolyn McKnight Description: We will use a sonnet and a monologue to create a multi-character short play, with music and movement, and explore powerful emotions and universal truths. For Shakespeare freaks and those for whom Shakespeare is just too freaky. 8.Title: Dancing with Character Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: Kelee Thompson Description: Learn how to portray different types of characters through body movements, and learn a fun musical theatre dance combination.

Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: Elizabeth England Description: The key to understanding Chekhovs work is to look beyond what is said and examines what lies beneath, in the characters' minds and hearts. In this workshop, students will practice the art of playing the subtext of a script, using Chekhov's Uncle Vanya. Technique is inspired by the instruction of James Bundy, Dean of the Yale School of Drama. 10. Title: Acting Leader: Beverly Quinn Description: Work on your monologue.

Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: Corky Dominguez Description: Rock n roll instant theatre making around the campus, using elements of Augusto Boals Theatre of the Oppressed and Anne Bogarts Viewpoint/Composition we will create a one time only unique ensemble working in the moment and from the heart! 12. Title: Rehearsing Your Scenes Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: Max Schafer Description: Rehearsing your Scenes Learn rehearsal techniques to really bring your scene to life. Viola Spolin develops these. You with rehearse a short scene; then we will rehearse it in a variety of ways. These techniques can be applied to any play you are rehearsing. 13. Title: Community/Culture/Gender Performance Exploration Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: Shaun Klaseus Description: Movement based session using various theatre techniques to explore themes and issues around community, culture, and gender. 14. Title: Shakespeares Language Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum Description: Scansion, Rhetoric and unlocking the secrets of Shakespeares Text. Within Shakespeares poetry are messages from the Bard about the character, emotion, idea, pace, and performance. Actors will begin to decode these messages using the basics of scansion and rhetoric and apply them to performance. 15. Title: Elizabethan Movement and Dance Session 1 Leader: The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum Description: Discover how period movement enhances your work as an actor through this physical and interactive class. Actors learn the basics of Elizabethan Movement and Dance. 16. Title: Stage Management Survival 101 Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Diane Jones Description: Learn the basics of how to set up a back date calendar, run rehearsal, set up your script and how to call a show. 17. Title: An Introduction to Object Work Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Anthony Castillo Description: We will explore new ways of looking at object work on stage. The session will include exercises for bringing inanimate objects to life, and lesson on creating a simple, quick, and cheap Bunraku puppet out of newspaper. Participants can keep the puppets they create.
18 Title: Physical Theatre
Sessions 1 2 - 3 Leader: - Christopher Morrison Description: We all use our bodies to tell each other what we think of ourselves and what we think of everyone else too! Learn how to manipulate your status (and other people/actors) to tell the story of your character with specific and actionable choices. Learn the status game to elevate your acting (and get one over on everyone else you know!) For ANY level actor this class will improve your performance guaranteed! 19 Title: Bollywood - Praise Dance Session 1 Leader: Rev. Joe Elvis Always Description: A combination of Indias Bollywood, Jazz and Praise dance; done to the rhythm dance song entitle Halleluiah is the Highest Praise. Learn basic Bollywood and Praise dance. Bollywood is the new Hollywood of Musical movies and live show. You saw it on "So You Think You Can Dance". Come it will be fun. 20 Title: Broadway CA Dance Session 2 Leader: Rev. Joe Elvis Always Description: Learn two musical theater numbers in the style of Broadway auditions. It should be fun and a window on the reality of NYC dance auditions. Learn a combination from West Side Story America and the opening number of A Chorus Line. 21 Title: High Impact Salsa-Funk Aerobics Dance Session 3 Leader: Rev. Joe Elvis Always Description: A combination of Latin rhythm salsa beat with percussion and funk beat. Break into a sweat, warm your body; learn basic Latin combination mix with jazz-funk. Get ready to start the year with a new attitude and good health. Come on, dont miss it you will have fun and make new friends. 22 Title: Stage Combat Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Ken Merckx Description: Ken will be addressing safe methods of dynamic acts of theatrical violence, Covering fights, and weapons and factors that contributed to a safe and entertaining fight scene. 23 Title: Movement for the Actor Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Shalico Sain Description: Using a physical approach to acting allows students to free their inhibitions and get in touch with their bodies, create characters from a physical, organic level rather than a cerebral one. We will work with breathing and stretching techniques; have students mimic/create the movements of the four elements: Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire. Students will then use these movements to create original characters inspired by their elements and perform a short, improvised scene. 24 Title: Set Design [This Session Has Been CANCELLED] Leader: Randy Shorts 25 Title: Lighting Design: A Method of Lighting the Stage Sessions 1 - 3 Leader: Daniel Weiermann Description: A basic overview of using light as a design medium and how to apply it. Qualities and functions of light are discussed. This knowledge is then applied to techniques for formulating a light plot and cues for a show. Mr. Weiermann is the System Sales Person for DTC Grip & Electric. 26 Title: Fixtures: How to Use and Maintain Them Session 2 Leader: Daniel Weiermann Description: Discussion of the various types of lighting fixtures in use today, and how they differ and are used. Fresnels, PARs, ellipsoidals, cyc fixtures, and automated fixtures. Techniques for maintaining the lighting fixtures no matter the manufacturer or age.
27 Title: Obama Drama
Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: Bernardo Solano Description: How do theatre artists use their art to express their politics and their politics to express their art? Writers, actors, directors, designers--tap into your inner revolutionary, society-changing, shape-shifting self! 28 Title: Improvisation & Character with the Voice Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: Patrick Williams Description: Students will have fun creating characters and monologues through vocal techniques. We will work on quickly establishing the character and situation, making choices and committing to them. The two main exercises will be vocal orchestras: The Emotional Orchestra will create witty characters & monologues as students express various emotions and topics. The Truth Orchestra will develop a story rooted in truthful improvisation amongst various characters involved in the same situation. Students should leave the workshop with a greater confidence in their characterization, improvisation and monologue skills. 29 Title: Got Character [This Session Has Been CANCELLED] Leader: Cathy Petz 30 Title: How to Survive a Dance Audition Sessions 2 - 3 Leader: Cheryl DesPalmes and Kathleen Switzer Description: Are you uncomfortable or out of your element at dance auditions? We will give you tips for surviving your audition and making yourself look good. Learn to fake basic tap moves, create fun characters and look like you know what you are doing! 31 Title: Voice and Speech Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Christopher Fairbanks Description: This session will introduce and reinforce the fundamentals of breath support and vocalization. It will also help you to identify speech habits through an introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet. 32 Title: Improv with Props Sessions 1 - 2 - 3 Leader: Chelsea Camp Description: We will begin with a warm up. This will consist of the students shaking out their legs and hands for 8, 6, 4, and 2 counts. (Shake it Out) We will then do two tongue twisters. Character Commercial: Students will come up and perform a 30 second commercial as a certain character and with a specific prop. I will assign them the character and hand them the prop. For example they are rock star selling toothpaste. They must keep in mind how their character would speak, move, and what their relationship is with prop. We will discuss as a class between commercials what worked well, and why this exercise is helpful for getting comfortable with improv.
