Title

: The importance of building a good rapport with the school


administrations, teachers and students

Problem/Issue/Event focused
For the first week of practicum, there is an issue that really attract my attention. The
issue is about, The importance of building a good rapport with the school
administrations, teachers and students. By definition, rapport is a relationship
marked by mutual understanding and trust. Thus, I could say that building a good
rapport in school means that the connection between a teacher and the other person in
the school, whether the school administrations, the other teachers and also the students
which will create a mutual trust between them.

According to Alexandra Link (2012),


Building rapport is a critical component of successful client-trainer relationships, as this
process promotes open communication, develops trust, and fosters the clients desire to
participate in a program
Based on the quotation, I could say that building rapport is a very important component
in school. A good rapport between a teacher and the other individuals in a school will
promote a good communication, develop trust and also foster the desire of those
individuals to participate with any program conducted in the school. This of course will
create a positive climate in the school.
Analyse problem/issue/event
In my opinion, it is very important for a new teacher like me, to be humble and try to
create a good relationship with the school administrations, teachers and students in SK
Guar Napai. This is because; building a good rapport with those individuals will help me
a lot in suiting myself in this new environment. As a new teacher, there are a lot of
things that I need to learn from those experienced individuals who have been in the
school earlier than me.
So, as we have not started teaching for the first week of practicum, me and my
practicum mate, Ahmad Syazwan try to find time and take the opportunities to have a
conversation with those experienced teachers in that school. We asked a lot of
questions about the school. Besides, we also asked them for some advises as we know
that they have gone through a lot of things in this education field. I believed that they
could give me the best advises or share their experiences with us, which could help us
in improving ourselves to be a good teacher.
Ways to achieved/overcome
In my opinion, having those short conversations with the teachers in this school will help
in developing a good rapport with them. Besides, I also have tried my best in building a
good relationship with those students in that school. For instance, when I entered the
class, I asked them about their family backgrounds. This will make me know more about
themselves so that it will help me to deal with them later on.
On the other hand, I also try to build a good rapport with the teachers and students by
joining any activities or program that they have organised. For instance, during the
fasting month, they conducted religious program at the school canteen during recess.
This, I took that opportunity to know more about the teachers and the students in SK
Guar Napai.

Follow up
I hope that I could suits myself at this school as soon as possible. Besides, I hope that I
can use these two months to build and maintain a good rapport with those individuals in
this school and at the same time improve my interpersonal skill as it is very important for
a teacher to acquire this skill.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I love to be a part of them in this school and I hope that I could learn a lot
from them. I also hope that I can build a good rapport with all of them within these two
months.
