Hello everybody, welcome to our professional development on VoIPs and the
flipped classroom. VoIPs (voice over internet protocol) can be used to link the
students to the teacher or other students over large distances. We can use VoIPs
for instructions on testing in multiple locations without having to physically be in the
room. While LanSchool serves the same function, Ventrilo can be mobile, used on
almost all devices, and allows mass communication.
1. First, we will all need access to the internet.
2. Bring up your browser and input www.ventrilo.com.
3. Look for the download button on the left hand side of the screen. It should
be the fourth from the top. Has everybody found the download button?
4. Here we will select our operating system. This depends on the device you
are using. Ask our IT department or myself what operating system your
device uses and select this option.
5. Here is the copyright page. As always, read this screen carefully and
adhere to your copyright laws. Find the I Agree button at the bottom of
your page and click to advance.
6-8. The setup download should begin at the bottom of your browser. Click
the widget to begin the setup once the download completes. Click next
through another copyright screen.
9. Here we will click accept on the license agreement screen. Click next to
advance screens again.
10.Here we can input our name and organization. The organization could be
your class or subject.
11. The next screen is the download destination screen. Make a note of where
the file is being downloaded. It is recommended to not change the file
path.
12-13 After making sure all information is complete, advance the setup to the
instillation stage. Click finish after the instillation period.
14. Double click the icon on your desktop. It should look like a silhouetted
head with a headset. This will launch the program.

15. Here we have the setup screen. We want to set our user name first. Click
on the right arrow beside user and select the name you would like to be
recognized as.
16. Next, click on new beside the server box. This will allow you to input the
server name you would like to join. Click ok to close the text box that pops
up.
17-22 Now, we want to input the server address of the server wed like to
access. Click the text box that says Hostname or server IP. Input your
server IP here. Right under this box, there is a port number box. Insert
your port number here. This helps differentiate servers from each other
and is needed every time. Next, we will insert the server password if
available. The server password would enable you to keep unwanted
guests out of your class channel. Even if they have the address, the server
password could deny access to certain channels on the server. Click the ok
button to close this connection editor.
23-29. Next, we need to set up the input and output of the service. On the
right hand side, there is a link entitled setup. Click this link. Under the first
tab, uncheck the fifth box that says Play Key Clicks. This plays a chirping
noise each time you input into the program. The echo would be a great
disturbance in a server of 120 students. Now, find the text box that says
Hotkeys. Click in this box to set the key you will use as your microphone
input key. Mine is set to V. It is rarely used and easily accessable. Play
around with a key that best suits you. Now, find the output device box.
Click the down arrow and select what hardware output device you would
like sound to travel through. Look for the audio input device button right
up under the output device. Click this box and select what input device
you would like to use(typically a headset or standalone microphone). Click
ok to exit setup.
30-34. Now it is time to connect to Ventrilo. Click connect to join the open
channel of Ventrilo. This is usually a lobby channel. If enabled, there could
be a message of the day. You can click a box that disables this notification
or you could simply click close at the bottom right hand side of your text
box. You can use your hotkey to hold and speak in this channel just as you
would a two way radio. Release your hotkey when you are finished
speaking to prevent echo on the channel. Changing channels is as easy as
double clicking the desired are you would like to join. There can be private
channels that require the appropriate server password to join. Users can
be invited to this channel but cannot speak.
Thank you for your time. Im sure you will take these suggestions and come
up with far greater

uses for this program than I could ever dream up. Keep me posted on your
innovations.
