Two of the applicants that accepted is Dika and Asti. Dika deployed to Ternate and Asti to West Tulang Bawang. In West Tulang Bawang, people get money from palm, cassava, and tapping rubber trees and they are thinking why should learn if you can earn money easily from doing the job. Other facts is most teachers are senior high school graduates, who are not formally trained because it is too far and too expensive to get to the district capital for courses. One of Astis student told Asti that her father do not support his daughter to learning, and more expect their children to be maid later abroad, but with encouragement and information about scholarship programs, three of the senior high school students from her district are now studying at university in Jakarta. The young teachers also have life changing. Dika says his year on the island inspired him; he learnt just how big country is and to appeciate things more. we hope that we can light more candles so that every child in the country believes they can be anything they want to be.
