Faculty Petition in Support of Divest Tulane

24 February, 2015

Tulane University faculty have drafted a petition urging Tulanes President Fitts and
the Board of Administrators to divest from fossil fuels in an effort to align Tulane
with international efforts to address the global climate change crisis. We are
currently seeking signatures from faculty university-wide.
The petition is posted at www.divesttulane.org/faculty-letter
Our goal is a minimum of 50 signatures by the end of Spring semester, 2015.
We will not publicize any names of signatories or send the signed petition to the
president and the board until we obtain at least 50 signatures.
Divest Tulane and the faculty authors of the petition want to ensure that no
faculty member experiences negative repercussions because of their
participation. We feel as though the best route to shield professors from
possible consequences and demonstrate our power is by keeping the
signatures private until we reach 50 faculty signatories.
Signatories may include one to several sentences to their signature, which
will appear with the signed petition that is sent to the president and the
board. Please sign this petition by going to
www.tinyurl.com/DivestTulaneFacultyPetition
Alternatively send a memo indicating your agreement to sign this petition,
along with any additional sentences to be included with your signature, to
either Thomas Sherry (tsherry@tulane.edu) or DivestTulane@gmail.com
Please feel free to send this cover letter, or otherwise call attention to the
petition to other Tulane faculty you believe may be interested in this effort.
The Tulane faculty petition has a number of references, but more information
about this effort at Tulane, in the form of an FAQ, is available at

For more information contact Thomas Sherry (tsherry@tulane.edu), or
