About This Chapter

The BTS3012AE uses the signal lightning-protection subrack to perform the functions of the
signal protection subsystem. These functions include the lightning protection for E1 signals,
monitoring signals, signals between combined cabinets and between cabinet groups, and signals
between cabinet groups when their distance is 25 meters.
3.1 Components of the BTS3012AE Signal Protection Subsystem
The BTS3012AE uses the signal lightning-protection subrack to perform the functions of the
signal protection subsystem. The signal lightning-protection subrack holds the DMLU, DELU,
and DGLU.
3.2 Functions of the BTS3012AE Signal Protection Subsystem
The BTS3012AE signal protection subsystem provides lightning protection for E1 signals,
monitoring signals, and signals between combined cabinets and between cabinet groups.

3.1 Components of the BTS3012AE Signal Protection

Subsystem
The BTS3012AE uses the signal lightning-protection subrack to perform the functions of the
signal protection subsystem. The signal lightning-protection subrack holds the DMLU, DELU,
and DGLU.

Components
Figure 3-1 shows the configurations of boards in the BTS3012AE signal lightning-protection
subrack.

3.2 Functions of the BTS3012AE Signal Protection

Subsystem
The BTS3012AE signal protection subsystem provides lightning protection for E1 signals,
monitoring signals, and signals between combined cabinets and between cabinet groups.
The signal protection subsystem performs the following functions:

Protecting E1 signals from lightning strikes

Protecting monitor signals from lightning strikes

Protecting the signals between combined cabinets and between cabinet groups from
lightning strikes

Protecting the eight external Boolean value inputs from lightning strikes

Providing a 2-route 485 serial control bus interface
