Functional
improvement,

not changed

The outcome is
the same, but
has been
enhanced. The
task has
changed.

Inconceivable

Rigorous Learning
RIGOR is creating an environment in which each
student is expected to learn at high levels, each
student is supported so he or she can learn at high
levels and each student demonstrates learning at
high levels.
(Blackburn, 2008)

Rigorous Learning
Is it promoting learning or is it just technology for the sake of technology (if
the answer is no, then disregard the tool!)
Where does it fit in the SAMR model?
Is it enhancing or expanding student learning?
Is it something you feel your students are capable of using?
What type of scaffolding would it require?
Could it be used to scaffold something else?
How is it promoting rigorous learning?

Introductory Play time!

choosing)

Extended Play
Pick one tools you just test drove, were going to play
with it for 20 minutes.
Create something, learn something, try out one of
the tasks.
If you cant figure something out, ask two neighbors
first, then ask the teacher.
Inquiry question: How can I use this tool to modify or
redefine student learning?

Final Thoughts
Dont be afraid to try new things
The right tool for the right task (finesse matters!)
Sometimes you just have to push through because it
doesnt work properly or the way you want it to
You dont have to be everything for everyone all the time!
Its not a competition to see who can use the newest tool,
it is deciding which tools are best for student learning
