Story: Self Appraisal

A little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to
the telephone. He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on
the phone and proceeded to punch in ten-digits (phone numbers).
The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:
Boy: 'Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): 'I already have someone to cut my
lawn.'
Boy: 'Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn
now.'
Woman: I'm very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.
Boy: (with more perseverance): 'I'll even sweepyour curb and your sidewalk, so on
Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach, Florida.'
Woman: No, thank you.
With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver.
The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy.
Store Owner: 'Son... I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like
to offer you a job.'
Boy: 'No thanks'.
Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one.
Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am
the one who is working for that lady, I was talking to!'
Story- Which employee type are you ?

Employee "A" in a company walked up to his manager and asked what my job is for the day? The
manager took "A" to the bank of a river and asked him to cross the river and reach the other side of
the bank. "A" completed this task successfully and reported back to the manager about the
completion of the task assigned. The manager smiled and said "GOOD JOB"
Next day Employee "B" reported to the same manager and asked him the job for the day. The
manager assigned the same task as above to this person also. The Employee "B' before starting the
task saw Employee "C" struggling in the river to reach the other side of the bank. He realized "C" has
the same task. Now "B" not only crossed the river but also helped "C" to cross the river. "B" reported
back to the manager and the manager smiled and said "VERY GOOD JOB"
The following day Employee "Q" reported to the same manager and asked him the job for the day.
The manager assigned the same task again. Employee "Q" before starting the work did some home
work and realized "A", "B" "C" all has done this task before. He met them and understood how they
performed. He realized that there is a need for a guide and training for doing this task. He sat first
and wrote down the procedure for crossing the river, he documented the common mistakes people
made, and tricks to do the task efficiently and effortlessly. Using the methodology he had written

down he crossed the river and reported back to the manager along with documented procedure and
training material. The manger said "Q" you have done an "EXCELLENT JOB".
The following day Employee "O' reported to the manager and asked him the job for the day. The
manager assigned the same task again. "O" studied the procedure written down by "Q" and sat and
thought about the whole task. He realized company is spending lot of money in getting this task
completed. He decided not to cross the river, but sat and designed and implemented a bridge across
the river and went back to his manager and said, "You no longer need to assign this task to any
one". The manager smiled and said "Outstanding job 'O'. I am very proud of you."
What is the difference between A, B, Q O? Many a times in life we get tasks to be done at home, at
office, at play.,
Most of us end up doing what is expected out of us. Do we feel happy? Most probably yes. We
would be often disappointed when the recognition is not meeting our expectation. Let us compare
ourselves with "B". Helping someone else the problem often improves our own skills. There is an old
proverb (I do not know the author) "learn to teach and teach to learn". From a company point of view
"B" has demonstrated much better skills than "A" since one more task for the company is completed.
"Q" created knowledge base for the team. More often than not, we do the task assigned to us
without checking history. Learning from other's mistake is the best way to improve efficiency. This
knowledge creation for the team is of immense help. Re-usability reduces cost there by increases
productivity of the team. "Q" demonstrated good "team-player" skills,
Now to the outstanding person, "O" made the task irrelevant; he created a Permanent Asset to the
team.
If you notice B, Q and O all have demonstrated "team performance" over and above individual
performance; they have also demonstrated a very invaluable characteristic known as "INITIATIVE".
Initiative pays of everywhere whether at work or at personal life. If you have initiative you will
succeed. Initiative is a continual process and it never ends. This is because this year's achievement
is next year's task. You cannot use the same success story every year. The story provides an
instance of performance, where as measurement needs to be spread across at least 6-12 months.
Consequently performance should be consistent and evenly spread. Out-of-Box thinkers are always
premium and that is what everyone constantly looks out for. Initiative, Out-of-Box thinking and
commitment are the stepping stone to success.
Initiative should be lifelong. Think of out of the box..Happy Working

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the
fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window.
The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on
end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in
the
military
service,
where
they

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass
the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world
would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the
water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst
flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other
side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.
Although the other man could not hear the band -he could see it in his mind's eye as
the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and
months passed.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the
lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.
She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to
the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was
comfortable,
she
left
him
alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real
world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.
It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had
described

outside

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

Moral:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to
feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

Story: Alphabet For Blinds
Braille was 10 years old when he was sent to a special boarding school for the blind. He was both
intelligent and creative and wasn't going to let his disability slow him down.
The books for the blinds had large letters that were raised up off the page. Since the letters were so
big, the books themselves were large and bulky. It took him a long time to read a sentence. By the
time he reached the end of a sentence, he almost forgot what the beginning of the sentence was
about.
Louis
knew
there
must
be
a
better
way.
By the time Louis Braille was 12, something important happened. A soldier visited the school and
showed children the military code called "night writing" which was used by soldiers to communicate
after dark. It was based on dots system. Each dot or combination of dots stood for a letter or a
phonetic sound. This was a very complicated system, but it inspired Louis Braille to develop a sixdot
system
for
the
blind.
On his next vacation home, he sat in his father's leather shop and picked up one of his father's blunt
awls. The idea came to him in a flash. Louis used the blunt awl to punch out a sentence using dots.
He read it quickly from left to right. Everything made sense. It worked.
He worked on this system of six raised dots in different combinations, each combination
corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. Because there were fewer dots, they could be "read" with
one finger-tip. Soon the benefits of the new system were realized. Today, Braille is used in almost
every country in the world.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Braille is one of the most important innovations in history. True it
does not affect the majority of people, but for anybody who has too poor eye-sight to read normal
text, it is a vital link to the outside world.

Story: Dad & Me

My dad only had one eye. I hated him... He was such an embarrassment. . He cooked for students
teachers to support the family. There was this one day during elementary school where my dad
came to Say hello to me. I was so embarrassed. How could he do this to me? I ignored him, threw
him a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, "EEEE, your dad
only Has one eye!" I wanted to bury myself I also wanted my dad to just disappear.. I confronted him
that day and said, " If you're only gonna make me a Laughing stock, why don't you just die?"
My dad did not respond.... I didn't even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I
was full of anger. I was oblivious to his feelings. I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do
with him. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study.
Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my
kids and the comforts, Then one day, my father came to visit me. He hadn't seen me in years and he
didn't even meet his Grandchildren. When he stood by the door, my children laughed at him, and I
yelled at Him for coming over uninvited. I screamed at him, "How dare you come to my house and
scare my Children!" GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!" And to this, my father quietly answered, "Oh, I'm
so sorry. I may have Gotten the wrong address," And he disappeared out of sight.
One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house.. So I lied to my wife that I was going
on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbors said
that he died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that he had wanted me to have.
"My dearest son,
I think of you all the time. I'm sorry that I came to your house and Scared your children. I was so glad
when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see
you. I'm sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were Growing up. You
see........when you were very little, you got into an accident, and Lost your eye. As a father, I couldn't
stand watching you Having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son
who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my Place, with that eye.
With all my love to you, Your father.

Brain Damaging Habits

There are a few habits that one has which damages the brain tissue or cells.
Obviously everything we do has an impact on our bodies. Yet, some specific
habits have a direct negative impact on our brains. Obviously this isnt a
healthy matter and one must learn to recognize these habits so that he may
get rid of them. We are aware of a few of them like stress, sleeplessness and
malnutrition, yet, a few prominent and dominating habits seem to cause
harm to our brain tissue. Here is a list of the ten most damaging habits
present in our daily routine that may prove to be injurious to health.

Leaving breakfast: now a days students as well as adults have a very bad habit of not
taking breakfast in the morning. This leads to low sugar level all day. It has been proven
through research that the carbohydrates that one takes in the morning are the real food of
the brain. So by not taking breakfast, our brain gets an insufficient supply of nutrients and
this becomes a cause of brain degeneration.

Over reacting at matters: for many it might be a habit now to over react at pity issues,
but the reality lies in the fact that over reacting at matter imposes a negative influence on
your brain. For example; the brain arteries become hard and this leads to a decrease of
mental power or what we call spontaneous work of the brain. So it enforces pressure over
the arteries causing them to stiffen.

Smoking: everyone is aware of the negative effects of smoking and of course it has either
direct or indirect effects on smoking as well. Moreover, even second hand smokers suffer
because of cigarette smoke around them. Basically smoking damages cognitive abilities,
memory, leaning skills and thinking powers. It has also been proved to be a cause of the
renowned diseases like Alzheimer and dementia.

High sugar level or consumption: many people have a sweet tooth and devote
themselves to eating sweets and less spicy food. This is good in many cases but then
again, too much of sugar in your blood will interrupt in the efficient absorption of
proteins and nutrients in our body. They may also interfere in process of healing of tissue
damage and brain development. So too much of sugary products in your diet arent good
for the brain.

Air pollution: this is one of the biggest factors for the brain damage and is more of a
habit that we have adapted to. The main reason being that our brains consumes the most
oxygen in our body. This means that the consumption of oxygen is most by our brain.
Because of air pollution, the supply of oxygen to the brain gets decreased and it also
decreases the efficiency of the brain. It is now no lesser than a habit to consume polluted
air.

Insomnia or sleep deprivation: many people take it as a disease if they dont get good
sleep at night. Mostly teenagers stay up late purposely just to party. This of course has a
negative effect on the brain since we laser the time of rest required by the brain and the
body and causes long term damages. This habit of sleeping late at night or no sleep at all
accelerates the death of the brain cells.

Covered heads while sleeping: this may be interesting and new to you. It is about pure
logic. If one sleeps with his head covered with a pillow or something, then it obviously
does not allow the carbon dioxide to move away. The concentration of carbon dioxide
hence increases and that of oxygen increases. This is very harmful for the brain. One
must go over their sleeping habits or tell someone to keep a check on them.

Working when you are ill: many people show much devotion to work. This is true for
those who strive all day and night without taking rest. They ruin their health and end up
being sick. More torturous, they work when they are sick and damage the effectiveness of

the brain. Even if youre just studying when youre sick, your pressurizing your brain to
work when it honestly cant function right.

Low water consumption: the importance of water is well known to all. 70% of our body
is made up of water. So when we lower our intake of water, we basically compromise of a
crucial need of our brain. Water is linked to many functions and the brain readily needs it.
So you need to increase the intake of water as soon as possible for proper body
functioning.

Lack of interaction: for many people it might be normal for not to speak much. But then
again there are those people who rarely ever talk. This is really wrong. You must speak up
so that your brain cells are exercised and you dont damage your brain cells by not using
them at all in this aspect.

Story: Unconditional Love

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz
who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a
blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease
and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.
The doctor explained the situation to her little brother and asked the little boy if he would be
willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep
breath and saying, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed
next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face
grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to
give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.
And he was willing to do that for her.

Story: The Stone on the Road

One day a farmer, walking down the street in a small town came across a large
stone in the middle of his path. The farmer complained: "Who could be so careless
as to leave such a big stone on the road? Why does someone not remove it?" He
went
away
complaining.
The next day, the same thing happened with a milkman. He too went away grumbling

but
left
the
stone
as
it
was.
Then one day, a student came across the stone. Worried that someone may fall
over it and hurt himself, he decided to push it aside. He pushed long and hard all by
himself and eventually managed to remove the stone from the path. He came back
and

kept.
He picked the paper and opened it. Inside was written, "You are the true wealth

Talkers

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally
disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire. The

Story: Baloons seller and the Kid

There was a man who made a living selling balloons at a fair. He had
all colors of
balloons, including red, yellow, blue, and green. Whenever business
was slow, he would
release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the children saw
it go up, they all
wanted to buy one. They would come up to him, buy a balloon, and his
sales would go up
again. He continued this process all day. One day, he felt someone
tugging at his jacket.
He turned around and saw a little boy who asked, "If you release a
black balloon, would
that also fly?" Moved by the boy's concern, the man replied with
empathy, "Son, it is not
the color of the balloon, it is what is inside that makes it go up."
The same thing applies to our lives. It is what is inside that counts.
The thing inside of us
that makes us go up is our attitude.
Have you ever wondered why some individuals, organizations, or
countries are more

successful than others?

It is not a secret. These people simply think and act more
effectively. They have learned
how to do so by investing in the most valuable asset--people. I
believe that the success
of an individual, organization or country, depends on the quality of
their people
The Power of Words
Different words affect people and differently and cause different reactions.
This applies to routine talks, work interviews, advertising, relationships, any conversations and
every sort of communication.
The words you repeat in your mind, in your inner conversations, also have a tremendous power.
If you change them, you can change your life, and also how people treat you.

Pay attention to the words you constantly repeat in your mind. Be aware of what is
going on in your mind, when you are not too busy, such as while waiting in line,
travelling by bus or train, walking, or at any other time you are mentally not busy.
10 Ways to Be Happy Psychologically

According to Maslows Hierarchy triangle of needs, a person needs a number

of things to reach the point of self-actualization, a point where he is satisfied
with himself. At this point, taunting and teasing of others doesnt really
matter to him and he becomes selflessly happy. But then again, there is a
thin line between self-actualization and self-obsession which isnt hard to
discriminate and these are opposite to each other. These needs include the
following:

Physiological needs: air, water, food, shelter etc.

Safety: security of body, health, family etc.

Love: family, friends, intimate partner etc.

Self-esteem: confidence, respect, achievements etc.

Self-actualization: creativity, cognition, optimism etc.

In getting to the final stage, the person transforms into someone better and
his personality also gets groomed.

Story of Alexender - The Three Wishes

There is very instructive incident involving the life of Alexander, the great Greek king.
Alexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home. On the way, he fell ill and it
took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his face, Alexander realized how his
conquests, his great army, his sharp sword and all his wealth were of no consequence.
He now longed to reach home to see his mother's face and bid her his last adieu. But, he had to
accept the fact that his sinking health would not permit Him to reach his distant homeland. So,
the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly waiting to breathe his last. He called his
generals and said, "I will depart from this world soon; I have three wishes, please carry them out
without fail." With tears flowing down their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king's
last wishes.
"My first desire is that," said Alexander, "My physicians alone must carry my coffin." After a
pause, he continued,
"Secondly, I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the
graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected in my treasury.
"
The king felt exhausted after saying this. He took a minute's rest and continued. "My third and
last wish is that both my hands be kept dangling out of my coffin." The people who had gathered
there wondered at the king's strange wishes. But no one dare bring the question to their lips.
Alexander's favourite general kissed his hand and pressed them to his heart. "O king, we assure
you that your wishes will all be fulfilled, but tell us why do you make such strange wishes?"
At this Alexander took a deep breath and said:
"I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt. I want my physicians to
carry my coffin because people should realize that no doctor can really cure anybody. They are
powerless and cannot save a person from the clutches of death. So let not people take life for
granted.
The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the way to the graveyard is to tell
people that not even a fraction of gold will come with me. I spent all my life earning riches but
cannot take anything with me. Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to chase wealth.
And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I wish people to know
that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world."
With these words, the king closed his eyes. Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last. .

GOD'S CREATION

God created the donkey

and said to him.
"You will be a donkey. You will work un-tiringly
from sunrise to sunset

carrying burdens on your back. You will eat grass,

you will have no intelligence and you will live 50
years."
The donkey answered:
"I will be a donkey, but to live 50 years is much.
Give me only 20 years"
God granted his wish.
............ ......... ........ ......... ........ ......... ......... .........
God created the dog
and said to him:
"You will guard the house of man. You will be his
best Friend.
You will eat the scraps that he gives you and you
will live 30 years.
You will be a dog. " The dog answered:
"Sir, to live 30 years is too much, give me only 15
years.
" God granted his wish.
............ ......... ........ ......... ........ ......... ......... .........
God created the monkey
and said to him:
"You will be a monkey. You will swing from branch
to branch doing tricks.
You will be amusing and you will live 20 years. "
The monkey answered:
"To live 20 years is too much, give me only 10
years."
God granted his wish.
............ ......... ........ ......... ........ ......... ......... .........
Finally God created man
and said to him:
"You will be man, the only rational creature on the
face of the earth.
You will use your intelligence to become master
over all the animals.
You will dominate the world and you will live 20
years."
Man responded:
"Sir, I will be a man but to live only 20 years is
very little,
give me the 30 years that the donkey refused,

the 15 years that the dog did not want and

the 10 years the monkey refused.
" God granted man's wish.
And since then, man lives 20 years as a man,
marries and spends 30 years like a donkey,
working and carrying all the burdens on his back.
Then when his children are grown,
he lives 15 years like a dog taking care of the
house
and eating whatever is given to him,
so that when he is old,
he can retire and live 10 years like a monkey,
going from house to house and from one son or
daughter to another doing tricks to amuse his
grandchildren.
That's Life.

10 Health Benefits of Eating Tomatoes

So it again supports the immune system of the body by making it stronger.

Healthier Kidneys and goodbye Gallstones: eating tomatoes without its seeds has been
surveyed to show case marvelous results. It usually shows how the efficiency of the

kidneys increases and also lowers the chance of having Gallstones or any other kidney
problems. In fact, without the seeds, the tomatoes are very beneficial for the blood
circulatory system as a whole.
6 Serious Medical Symptoms You Shouldn't Ignore

Some medical symptoms are warnings that you need immediate care. Learn to
recognize these six.
1. Paralysis of the arms or legs, tingling, numbness, confusion, dizziness, double vision, slurred
speech, trouble finding words, or weakness, especially on one side of the face or body.
These are signs of stroke -- or a "brain attack" -- in which arteries that supply oxygen to the brain
become blocked or rupture, causing brain tissue to die.
Symptoms depend on which area of the brain is involved. If a large blood vessel is blocked, a
wide area may be
affected, so a person may have paralysis on one side of the body and lose other functions, such
as speech and understanding. If a smaller vessel is blocked, paralysis may remain limited to an
arm or leg.
If you have symptoms, call 911 right away and get to an emergency room that offers clot-busting
therapy for strokes due to blocked vessels. Such treatment, which dissolves clots in blocked
vessels, needs to be given within the first three hours after symptoms begin, but newer treatments
may work within a longer time frame, says Birge, who is medical director at the Tanner Medical
Center in Carrollton, Ga.
Timing is urgent; fast treatment can potentially stop brain tissue death before permanent brain
injury happens. "There is a time clock ticking as to when you might totally recover," Birge tells
WebMD.
2. Chest pain or discomfort; pain in the arm, jaw, or neck; breaking out in a cold sweat; extreme
weakness; nausea; vomiting; feeling faint; or being short of breath.
These are signs of heart attack. If you get some of these symptoms, call 911 immediately and go
to the emergency room by ambulance. Shulman and Birge also recommend that patients chew
one regular, full-strength aspirin (unless they're allergic to aspirin) to help prevent damage to the
heart muscle during a heart attack.
Not everyone who has a heart attack feels chest pain or pressure or a sense of indigestion. Some
people, especially women, the elderly, and people with diabetes, get "painless" heart attacks, the
doctors say. Being aware of "painless" heart attack signs is crucial: a very weak feeling, sudden
dizziness, a pounding heart, shortness of breath, heavy sweating, a feeling of impending doom,
nausea, and vomiting.
Both doctors say that it's important to learn heart attack signs and understand them in context.
"Everybody has jaw pain. You don't immediately run and say, 'I've got a heart attack,'" Shulman
tells WebMD. He is an associate professor of internal medicine at Emory University School of
Medicine in Atlanta. "But if you're also sweating and you have some of these other symptoms -shortness of breath and so forth -- then that's going to tip you off that there's something much
more serious happening."
3. Tenderness and pain in the back of your lower leg, chest pain, shortness of breath, or coughing
up blood.

These are symptoms of a potentially dangerous blood clot in your leg, especially if they come
after you've been sitting for a long time, such as on an airplane or during a long car trip. These
signs can also surface if you've been bedridden after surgery.
"Anybody is susceptible, " Birge says. He adds that such blood clots are more common than
most people and doctors realize.
Blood is more likely to pool in your legs when you're sitting or lying down for long periods of
time, as opposed to standing and walking. If a blood clot forms in your leg as a result, your calf
can feel swollen, painful, and tender to the touch; you should be evaluated. If you get sudden
chest pain or shortness of breath, a piece of the blood clot may have broken off and traveled
through the bloodstream to your lungs. This condition can be life-threatening, so get to an
emergency room without delay.
4. Blood in the urine without accompanying pain.
Anytime you see blood in your urine, call your doctor promptly, even if you have no pain.
Kidney stones or a bladder or prostate infection are common causes of blood in the urine. But
these problems are usually painful or uncomfortable, which sends people to the doctor promptly.
In contrast, when people see blood in their urine but feel no pain, some take a "wait and see"
approach, especially if they just have one episode. "But you can't have this attitude," Shulman
says. Lack of pain doesn't necessarily mean lack of seriousness.
Cancer of the kidney, ureter, bladder, or prostate can cause bleeding into the urinary tract; when
these cancers are small enough to be curable, they may not cause pain. So don't dismiss this
important sign because, according to Shulman and Birge, "blood in the urine may be
the only clue for an early diagnosis."
5. Asthma symptoms that don't improve or get worse.
Asthma attacks are marked by wheezing or difficulty breathing. When an attack doesn't improve
or worsens, a patient should get emergency care.
If an asthma attack is left untreated, it can lead to severe chest muscle fatigue and death, say
Shulman and Birge. Some people with persistent asthma hesitate to go to the emergency room
because they've gone so many times before, or they need someone to drive them because they're
too short of breath. So instead of seeking care, "They try to hang in there," Birge says, even if
they need higher doses of inhalants or have decreasing lung function measurements when using a
device to measure how well they move air out of their lungs.
Because asthma makes breathing difficult, the muscles for breathing may tire and the volume of
air exchanged by the lungs will decrease. As a result, a person's oxygen level drops while blood
levels of carbon dioxide rise. As Birge and Shulman explain in their book, "A carbon dioxide
buildup in the blood has a sedating effect on the brain, which may cause you to feel even
drowsier. You may lose the motivation or energy to breathe."
"A person with asthma who seems to be relaxing more, who seems to not be struggling for breath
anymore -- even though they've been at it for six or eight hours -- may actually be worse. It could
be a sign of respiratory fatigue," Birge says. Eventually, the person could stop breathing.
"They're really in a big danger zone," Shulman adds. Patients believe they're getting better when
they're actually getting worse, he says. "They become sedated and seem to be peaceful when
actually, they're dying."
One of the most important considerations is how long an attack lasts, according to both doctors.
"If you've been having labored respirations with the asthma not relenting after a period of several

hours, even though you may be apparently doing OK, don't let it go any longer," Birge says. "Get
on to the emergency room."
6. Depression and suicidal thoughts.
Few people would put up with crushing chest pain or extreme shortness of breath, but many
endure depression, even though at its extreme it can be life-threatening.
"Depression can be a very, very serious problem because people can commit suicide," Shulman
says. "Some people will not seek care when they are depressed because they think that they'll be
perceived as being crazy or not strong or not manly, and they have to understand that there is a
chemical imbalance going on in their brain. It is a disease just like any other disease."
Symptoms of depression include sadness, fatigue, apathy, anxiety, changes in sleep habits, and
loss of appetite. Depression can be treated with medications and psychotherapy.
If you have suicidal thoughts, you can speak to someone right away by calling national phone
numbers such as 1-800-273-TALK or 1-800-SUICIDE.

Speak Up When You Think Something Is Wrong

Doctors are human: They can miss important diagnoses, including heart attacks. A patient's
awareness and vigilance can make a difference, Shulman says.
"My feeling is, as a doctor, I want a patient who's informed. I'd rather have a patient who's
informed, who's helping me so I won't make a mistake," Shulman says. "And I can be honest and
say, 'I'm human. Don't be intimated by me because I have a white coat on. Don't be intimidated
by me because I'm using big words.'"
If patients can recognize potentially serious symptoms, they'll have more power when they go to
the doctor or the emergency room, he adds. "You have enough to say, 'Well, have you ruled out
this problem?'"

Top 10 Reasons To Exercise In The Morning!

If I had to pick a single factor that I thought was most important in a successful
exercise or weight loss program, it would be to exercise first thing in the morning
- every morning! Some mornings, you may just be able to fit in a 10 minute walk, but
it's important to try to do something every morning.

So why mornings?...
1. Over 90% of people who exercise 'consistently', exercise in the morning. If you
want to exercise consistently, odds are in your favor if you exercise first thing in
the morning.
2. When you exercise early in the morning, it "jump starts" your metabolism and
keeps it elevated for hours, sometimes up to 24 hours! That means you're burning
more calories all day long just because you exercised in the morning!
3. When you exercise in the morning you'll be *energized* for the day!
Personally, I feel dramatically different on days when I have and haven't exercised
in the morning.
4. Many people find that morning exercise "regulates" their appetite for the day that they aren't as hungry and that they make better food choices. Several people
have told me that it puts them in a "healthy mindset."
5. If you exercise at about the same time every morning, and ideally wake-up at
about the same time on a regular basis, your body's endocrine system and
circadian rhythms adjust to that. Physiologically, some wonderful things begin to
happen; A couple of hours *before* you awaken, your body begins to prepare for
waking and exercise because it "knows" it's about to happen. Why? Because it
"knows" you do the same thing just about everyday. You benefit from that in
several ways..
a) It's MUCH easier to wake-up. When you wake-up at different times everyday, it
confuses your body and thus it's never really "prepared" to awaken. b) Your
metabolism and all the hormones involved in activity and exercise begin to elevate
while you're sleeping. Thus, you feel more alert, energized, and ready to exercise
when you do wake-up. c) Hormones prepare your body for exercise by regulating
blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow to muscles, etc.
6. For many people, that appointed time every morning becomes something they
look forward to. It's time they've set aside to do something good for themselves -

to take care of their body, mind, and soul. Many find that it's a great time to think
clearly, pray, plan their day, or just relax mentally.
7. Research has demonstrated that exercise increases mental acuity. On average
it lasts four to ten hours after exercise! No sense in wasting that brain power
while you're sleeping. :)
8. Exercise first thing in the morning is really the only way to assure that
something else won't crowd exercise out of your schedule. When your days get
hectic, exercise usually takes a back seat!
9. If finding time to exercise is difficult, anyone can get up 30 to 60 minutes
earlier to exercise (if it's a priority in your life). If necessary, you can go to sleep
a little earlier. Also, research has demonstrated that people who exercise on a
regular basis have a higher quality of sleep and thus require less sleep!
10. You'll feel GREAT! DO IT!
Perfection Through Learning

When we realise having made a mistake, we usually have negative thoughts about ourselves.
This is because we expect the best out of ourselves, i.e., we expect ourselves to be perfect in
everything we do. But this expectation prevents us from taking naturally the learning from the
situation.
We need to realise that perfection does not come by thinking about it but by being busy in
whatever we are doing. With every action of ours comes a learning and this automatically brings
perfection.
Puzzles

1.There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall

building. Everyday he gets the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the building to
go to work.
Upon returning from work though, he can only travel half way up in the lift and has to
walk the rest of the way unless it's raining! Why?
(This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all
lateral thinking puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many possible solutions
which fit the initial conditions, only the canonical answer is truly satisfying. )
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*

2. A man is wearing black. Black shoes, socks, trousers, lumper, gloves and balaclava.
He is walking down a black street with all the street lamps off. A black car is coming
towards him with its lights off but somehow manages to stop in time. How did the driver
see the man?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
3. Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?
This is logical rather than lateral, but it is a good puzzle that
can be solved by lateral thinking techniques. It is supposedly used by a very well-known
software company as an interview question for prospective employees.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
4. A man went to a party and had a drink. He then left early. Everyone else at the party
who drank the drinks, died of poisoning. Why did that man not die?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
5. A man walks into a hotel and asks the man for a glass of
water. The man pulls out a gun and points it at the man.
The man says 'Thank you' and walks out.
(This puzzle claims to be the best of the genre. It is simple in its statement, absolutely
baffling and yet with a completely satisfying solution. Most people struggle very hard to
solve this one yet they like the answer when they hear it or have the satisfaction of
figuring it out. )

SOLUTIONS

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
1. The man is very, very short and can only reach halfway up the elevator buttons.
However,if it is raining then he will have his umbrella with him and can press the higher
buttons with it.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
2. It was day time.
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
3. A square manhole cover can be turned and dropped down the diagonal of the
manhole. A round manhole cannot be dropped down the manhole. So for safety and
practicality, all manhole covers
should be round.
^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
4. The poison in the drink came from the ice cubes. When the man Drank, the ice was
fully frozen. Gradually it melted,
poisoning the drink.
^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
5. The man had hiccups. The barman recognized this from his speech and drew the gun
in order to give him a shock. It worked and cured the hiccups-so the man no longer
needed the water.
Hearing problem... a short story

A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he
thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach
her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor
told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform
to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.
Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from
her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears
you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and s o on until you get a
response.
"That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was
in the den. He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see
what happens." then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for
dinner?" No response. So the husband moves to closer to the kitchen,
about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?"
Still no response. Next he moves into the dining room where he is
about 20 feet from his wife and asks, Honey, what's for dinner?"
Again he gets no response so; He walks up to the kitchen door, about

10 feet away. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again there

response.
So
he
walks
right
up
behind

is

no
her.

"Honey, what's for dinner?" ;;;;"James, for the FIFTH time I've
said,
CHICKEN!"

5 Homemade Cough Remedies

Many people suffer from a sore throat every now and then. The common cold
and cough have become a viral for many. As doctors suggest that there is no
fixed medication for these two very common diseases, we feel the need to
step in and tell you about the remedies that may help. Experts suggest that
these diseases will only go away after they have finished their period over a
patient. No specific medication can help in clearing their virus out of the
body faster. Yet, the allopathic medication only helps in controlling the
effects and helps in healing faster.

This is when remedies come in handy for they are sure to help in any
condition. When one says that allopathic medicine helps in faster healing
processes, they undermine the after effects of this sort of medication.
Moreover, the best apart about remedies is exactly two things. One, they are
naturally made with health and goodness. You can easily make them at home
on your own, so they have no hidden chemicals. Two, they have no side
effects and this is for sure. Unless someone has some sort of allergy with the
ingredient, the rest will be fine and one would easily recover soon and better
than ever.

The symptoms of having coughed or a sore throat arent that hard to

recognize. As soon soon you feel that your throat is drying up, it definitely
means that something is wrong but on an initial stage. Then there might be a
possibility that you have mucus in your throat, in such a condition, you would

know that a cough is probably coming. But what is the real problem with a
little sore throat is that our nose, ears and body do get affected generally.
Easiest example being that of the fever one gets when he has cough.

The causes of cough might be diverse. Eating anything that doesnt suit your
throat, for example, too much spicy food, too much sweet, too much sour
food, screaming a lot and many others factors add up to cause such a
problem in the throat. Also, pollution today plays a vital role in causing cough
and flu in a person.

Here is a list of remedies that can help one get rid of coughing and heal
faster than ever.

The garlic, honey and onion syrup: this is an ideal solution to this coughing problem.
This remedy has been transferred through the generations. Take half cup honey and half a
cup of water and add in them one chopped clove of garlic and a whole onion chopped
finely. Add just a pint of sage, thyme and oregano (according to your taste whatever you
prefer) and allow the syrup to steep though the night at room temperature. Strain this
syrup in the morning and use it as a cough syrup. Refrigerate it later.

Massage of castor oil: this massage therapy can be done with the help of a useful oil.
The trick is to get half a cup of high quality cold-pressed castor oil. Take two cloves of
garlic and crush them, then add them to the oil. Add to this mixture a tablespoon of grated
ginger and almost 5 drops of eucalyptus oil. Then lastly, add half a teaspoon of good
cayenne pepper. Rub this special oil on the chest for twice or thrice a day; especially
before sleeping.

The horse-reddish syrup: the horse reddish syrup is very easy to make but it depends on
the availability of the horse reddish itself. The syrup is prepared when you add half a
teaspoon of horse reddish in quarter of a cup of honey. Then leave it for several hours,
advisably over the night and use it as a cough syrup later on. But do give the solution
time to set.

Salt and water gargles: Im sure everyone has heard of these at some point in their lives.
Its easy and possible for everyone to perform. Basically it works efficiently because salt
is a good healer and direct contact of salt with Luke warm water to the throat helps it heal
faster. So one take a cup of water, heat it till its considerably warm, on a stove or in the
microwave. Add in one cup of water at least one leveled teaspoon of salt. And gargle for
as long as you can once at night and once in the morning. And you will feel the
difference.

Homemade chicken broth: chicken broth is both beneficial in healing as well as

providing nutrition to the body. One simply cant resist it. Boil chicken bones in water
long enough for all of its juices to mix into the water. Drink this broth when it is warm
twice or thrice a day and you will get rid of the cough in no time.

Story: Tears of Happiness

Once there lived two brothers who lost their parents at an early age. They worked
together on their family farm. Some years later, the elder married and had a
family with 2 children, while the other was still single. They worked hard together
in the day and at the end of each day they shared their produce equally.
One day while the single brother was working in the fields, he thought to himself, "It's not
right
that we share equally everything. I'm alone and my needs are simple. My brother has a big
family. He needs much more." With that in mind he took a sack full of grains and slowly went to
his brothers barn and places the sack quietly. He did so every night.

Meanwhile, the married brother thought to himself, "It's not right that we share everything
equally. After all, I'm married and I have my wife and children to look after me in years to
come. My brother has no family and no one can take care of his future. He really should have a
bigger share." So each night he took a bag of grain and put it into his brothers barn quietly.
This went on and both men were puzzled for months because their grain never dwindled.
Then one night, on the way to each others barn, the two brothers coincidentally met and they
found out what was happening all these years! They dropped their bags, cried and embraced
one another with tears of happiness. Source: Unknown Labels: ethics, family, Short Story
The Dubai Nobody Tells You About

- Dubai is the land of the biggest, tallest, longest, widest,

richest,fanciest,fastest...everything is ... in the world.
- They have the tallest residential towers in the world, the tallest restaurant in
the world, the largest number of Malbaris in the world, the highest crane operator
in the world.
-

If it does not grow in Dubai , they'll make it artificially - artificial ski slopes,
artificial islands, artificial oasis, coconut trees and lawns, artificial beaches,
artificial economy.
- Indians especially love it here because of the dirham-to-rupee value. Pakistanis
adore it.
- The Egyptians come here because there is nothing to do in Egypt. No more
pyramids to build either.
-The Filipinos come here because they have no choice; there is nothing back home,
not even dogs - they've been eaten up.
-The Brits come here coz they have forgotten what it is to enjoy 3 meals a day in
UK and nobody employs them there for the crap they give.
-The Lebanese come here to buy cars, dress to kill, wear Peter Pan shoes 10 sizes
bigger than their feet, put 1 kg of gel on their heads and give everyone ball talk.
They'll buy a 1980s Merc or BMW for 10k dirhams and drive the car like theyre
sitting in the rear passenger seat, stretching their arms all the way to the steering
wheel, giving you the piercing bald eagle look.
-Russian girls come here as "Hookers".
- The Bangladeshis come here to serve you when you honk outside a Baklava (shop),
but would not even look at you if you park and go inside to pickup yourself.
Now according to the government Dubai is Tax free. Of course, that is true. You
only have to pay for the visa, medical, sponser, insurance, resident ID, Opening a
bank account or even closing an account, Municipality, Sewerage, attestation of
papers, translation of papers, driving license papers, lessons, Car license, testing,
and ... but the salary is Tax Free.
Only, there is a Pay and Park scheme with 5000 parking lots, and 500,000 cars in
the city, so where the hell do you park? And you are fined for wrong parking.

Toll has been introduced on many roads. You can avoid the toll tax by using
alternative routes, but you'll end up in a traffic jam because everyone is trying to
avoid the toll tax.
If you have any government related work like medicals for visa or immigration, you
have 2 options - Standard and Urgent Procedure. Standard takes 15 days and
Urgent takes 2 days. The difference is 30 to 40-odd dirhams. Everyone goes for
the urgent option and the Dubai government makes money, urgently.
If you switch jobs you get a work ban and to lift the ban you pay a huge penalty.
In Dubai , without a car you are paralyzed (you dont even get jobs if you dont have
a car). But you 'll get your license in attempts ranging from 2 to 20. Each time you
fail you have paid fees for Driving classes Driving Tests, which are 1000-odd
dirhams. Imagine the money RTA makes.
Most of the expats live alone with families back home. So they spend much on
phone calls. And call charges from Dubai are high.
Another odd thing about Dubai - no matter where you go or who you meet, you take
down phone numbers. Everybody has everybodys number in Dubai . And everyone
has a Visiting Card, whether you are a bootlegger, a masseuse, a hooker, a car
cleaner, a watchman or a pizza delivery boy. Everyone knocks around with lots of
cards in his or her wallet and one card in the palm. So whenever you shake hands
with anyone in Dubai and let go, you end up with a visiting card in your palm.
If youre walking on the road and you ask someone the time, he'll tell you 10:30,
give you his card and say, I have new and second-hand watches.
At a restaurant when you are leaving they'll say Here is my card, call us for home
delivery.
If you're below your building, you'll meet those Chinese chicks giving you their
cards, saying, Call us if you want DVDs.
If you are standing at a bus stop, a Pakistani will pull over in his 1980 Toyota
Corolla, give you his card and say, If you want Pick-up Drop Service, call me.

Dubai has amusing-looking buildings. Some have holes in them, some have giant balls
on them, some look like aeroplanes, some look like sail boats, and, all of them reach
into space with your window right in front of the moon.
Everyone in Dubai goes to malls. Not necessarily to shop. To beat the heat, go to a
mall; business meeting, go to a mall; getting bored, go to a mall; want to take a leak
or dump, go to a mall; want to do lukhagiri (little in your pocket, little in your mind),
go to a mall. If you want to go for a picnic go to a mall.
Some Malbaris go home to Kerala, get married, and then come to a Dubai Mall for
their honeymoon.
THAT...MY FRIENDS.....IS DO-BUY
The Wife and the Window

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next

morning, while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her
neighbor hang the wash outside.
That laundry is not very clean, she said, she doesn't
know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.
Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her
neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the
same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: "Look! She has
learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."
The husband said: "I got up early this morning and
cleaned our windows!"
And so it is with life:
"What we see when watching
others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.
Before we give
any criticism, it might be a good idea to check our state of
mind and ask ourselves if we are ready to see the good rather than to be
looking for something in the person we are about to judge.
Story: The Manager and the Worker

One day a construction supervisor from 6th floor of building was calling a worker working on the
ground floor. Because of construction noice, the worker on ground floor did not hear his supervisor
calling.
Then, to draw the attention of worker, the supervisor threw a 10 rupee note from up which fell right
around in front of the worker.
The worker picked up the 10 rupee note, put it in his pocket continued with his work.
Again to draw the attention of worker, the supervisor now threw 500 rupee note the worker did the
same, picked 500 rupee note, put it in his pocket started doing his job.
Now to draw attention of the worker, the supervisor picked a small stone threw on worker. The stone
hit exactly the worker head. This time the worker looked up the supervisor communicated with the
worker.
This story is same as of our life. Lord from up wants to communicate with us, but we are busy doing
our worldly jobs. Then God gives us small gifts we just keep it without seeing from where we got it.
Then God gives us amounts (gifts) we are the same. Just keep the gifts without seeing from where it
came without thanking God. We just say we are LUCKY.
Then when we are hit with a small stone, which we call problems, then we look up we communicate
with God.
So every time we get gifts, we should thank God immediately, and not wait till we are hit by a small
stone, and then communicate with God.

Health Benefits of Peanuts

Peanuts are one of the most loved nuts around the world and are readily
cultivated and exported from many regions of South Asia because they are
believed to be the yummiest there. They are a very healthy source of
monounsaturated fats needed by a healthy heart. Many nutritionists
encourage the addition of peanuts in your daily diets and especially for those
suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Studies show that the risk of
cardiovascular diseases decrease up to 21% for an average American who
consumes peanuts on daily or regular basis. They also uphold the title of
being the best source of protein from all the plants and are rich in energy.
Peanuts contain many essential nutrients demanded by the human body for
better performance.

Peanuts are used in many different ways. Its oil is readily consumed in dishes
as well as to apply on swellings and the body parts. Also, flour of the peanuts
is available which people use in preparing many different types of breads
and chapattis. They may be used in boiled, roasted, salted, honey roasted
forms. The most prominent example may be the roasted peanuts that are
available almost everywhere in the world. They are used in many different

cousins in many cultures. They are also use in the treatment of malnutrition
since it is a rich source of many different nutrients. All in all peanuts are pin
packed with energy and are suggested by experts to include in their diets.

There are numerous health benefits of peanuts. Then again, there are those
prominent one that cant be denied. As per being one of the most desired
nuts, peanuts have always had a good competition with almonds for which
nut is more desired. Surveys have revealed that almonds are preferred in
only those areas where peanuts are not available abundantly. Basically there
is a lot in stored in these little nuts. Below is a list of health benefits we gain
from peanuts:

Fertility enhancement: because of the fact that peanuts contain folate, a substance that
increases fertility, it is highly recommendable for women to adjust in their diets. Peanuts
contain a good enough amount of folate in them and studies and extensive research has
shown that a daily intake of 400 micrograms of folic acid (found in folate) increases
fertility as well as provides good immunity to the child being born. Chances of
miscarriages decrease greatly. Also abnormality and risks of neural or physiological
disorder risk greatly. So a woman should especially eat peanuts if she wants to get
pregnant and even during her pregnancy as well.

Anti-depressant properties: another great aspect about peanuts is its anti-depressant

traits. They contain Tryptophan. This is basically an important amino acid which is used
in the production of serotonin. Now this serotonin serves as an anti-depressant and it is
essential for the brain or else lack of serotonin from the brain cells may cause mood
swings for it also deals with the mood regulation. All in all, it is essential to keep a person
high and perky and the decrease of serotonin will bring negative effects upon the
personality.

Rich in vitamins: peanuts are also a rich source of vitamins off many types. These
especially include those that are most needed by our body. They are labeled as the brain
food. This is especially because they contain vitamin B3 that assists the body in executing
many functions. Chiefly it is needed by our body to feed the brain for normal functioning
and to boost the energy of the brain cells. Hence, it becomes very important and must be
a part of our diet. Moreover, it also came into notice that because peanuts contain
vitamins like B3 and B2 called niacin, they facilitate in keeping your cognitive abilities
intact. 70% of the surveyed people show that intake of peanuts has lessened the risk of
schizophrenia and Alzheimer for them. Almost one fist of peanuts a day is enough to
fulfill your brain requirements. Make sure you add a few nuts to your daily diet.

Prevention of gallstones: gallstones are a disease a problem that usually

occurs in women. There are many treatments to it, there are many
precautions as well; yet the yummiest precaution seems to be that of eating
peanuts. We see that even here peanuts show their magic as a survey
conducted over eighty thousand women has shown that those who consume
peanuts or peanut butter or any source of peanuts daily or in their daily
routine seem to have almost a 25% lesser chance of getting gallstones. This
is astonishing for only one ounce of peanuts is needed daily to prevent
gallbladder diseases. You may eat a sand which or in any form to get the
nutrition present in a whole wheat bread with proteins, fibers and what not.

The Honest Wife

A man who was driving a car with his wife was stopped by a police officer. The following
exchange took place.
The man says, "What's the problem, officer?"
Officer: "You were going at least 75 in a 55 zone."
Man: "No sir, I was going 65."
Wife: "Oh, Harry. You were going 80." (The man gave his wife a dirty look.)
Officer: "I'm also going to give you a citation for not wearing your seat belt."
Man: "Oh, I just took it off when you were walking up to the car."
Wife: "Oh Harry, you never wear your seat belt."
The man turned to his wife and yelled, "SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"
The officer turned to the woman and asked, "Ma'am, does your husband talk to you this
way all the time?"
Wife: "Oh no, not always, but when he is drunked".
Story: The Stone Soup

There are many variations on the story of stone soup, but they all involve a traveler coming into
a town beset by famine. The inhabitants try to discourage the traveler from staying, fearing he
wants them to give him food. They tell him in no uncertain terms that there's no food anywhere
to be found. The traveler explains that he doesn't need any food and that, in fact, he was planning
to make a soup to share with all of them.
The villagers watch suspiciously as he builds a fire and fills a cauldron with water. With great
ceremony, he pulls a stone from a bag, dropping the stone into the pot of water. He sniffs the
brew extravagantly and exclaims how delicious stone soup is. As the villagers begin to show
interest, he mentions how good the soup would be with just a little cabbage in it. A villager
brings out a cabbage to share. This episode repeats itself until the soup has cabbage, carrots,
onions, and beets-indeed, a substantial soup that feeds everyone in the village.
--This story addresses the human tendency to hoard in times of deprivation. When resources are
scarce, we pull back and put all of our energy into self-preservation. We isolate ourselves and
shut out others. As the story of stone soup reveals, in doing so, we often deprive ourselves and
everyone else of a feast.
This metaphor plays out beyond the realm of food. We hoard ideas, love, and energy, thinking we
will be richer if we keep to them to ourselves, when in truth we make the world, and ourselves,
poorer whenever we greedily stockpile our reserves. The traveler was able to see that the
villagers were holding back, and he had the genius to draw them out and inspire them to give,
thus creating a spread that none of them could have created alone.
Are you like one of the villagers, holding back? If you come forward and share your gifts, you
will inspire others to do the same. The reward is a banquet that can nourish many.
Story - The Green Concept

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman that she should bring her
own shopping bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.
The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."
The cashier responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our
environment for future generations."
She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then, we returned milk bottles, pop bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them
back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so they could use the same bottles over
and over. Yes, they really were recycling.
We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen; and we replaced the razor blades in a
razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But, we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

We walked up the stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every shop and office building. We
walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go
two blocks.
But, she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.
Back then, we washed the baby's nappies because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried
clothes on a line, not in an 'energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts;' wind and solar power
really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers
or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.
But, that young lady is right. We didn't have the green thing back in our day.
Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And, the TV had a small
screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the county of Yorkshire
.
In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do
everything for us.
When we packaged a fragile item to send in the post, we used wadded up old newspapers to
cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn petrol just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower
that ran on human power.
We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on
electricity.
But, she's right. We didn't have the green thing back then.
We drank water from a fountain or a tap when we were thirsty instead of demanding a plastic bottle
flown in from another country.
We accepted that a lot of food was seasonal and didn't expect that to be bucked by flying it
thousands of air miles around the world.
We actually cooked food that didn't come out of a packet, tin or plastic wrap and we could even
wash our own vegetables and chop our own salad.
But, we didn't have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the tram or a bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of
turning their mothers into a 24-hour taxi service.
We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.
And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles
out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.
But, isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't
have the green thing back then?

Forgiveness is greater than revenge.

This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of his
home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was
happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to
his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as
punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the
hospital.
Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally

had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke
up from the surgery saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, Daddy, I'm
sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to
grow back?" The father went home committed suicide.
Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u wish to
take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u love.
Trucks can be repaired.. Broken bones hurt feelings often can't. Too often we
fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We
forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge..
You Are The Results Of Yourself

Don't blame anyone, never complain of anyone or anything

Because basically you have made of your life what you wanted.
Accept the difficulties of edifying yourself
And the worth of starting to correct your character.
The triumph of the true man arises from the ashes of his mistakes.
Never complain of your loneliness or your luck.
Face it with courage and accept it.
Somehow, they are the result of your acts and
It shows that you'll always win.
Don't feel frustrated of your own failures, neither unload them to someone else.
Accept yourself now or you'll go on justifying yourself like a child.
Remember that any time is good to start
And that no time is so good to give up.
Don't forget that the cause of your present is your past,
As the cause of your future will be your present.
Learn from the brave, from the strong,
From who doesn't accept situations
From who will live in spite of everything.
Think less of your problems and more of your work.
Learn to arise from your pain,
And to be greater than the greatest of your obstacles.
Look at the mirror of yourself and you'll be free and strong
And you'll stop being a puppet of circumstances.
For you yourself are your destiny.

Wake up and stare at the Sun in the mornings and breathe the Sun of dawn.
You're part of the strength of your life now,
Rise up, fight, walk, be sure and you'll win in life.
Don't ever think of 'fate'
For fate is the excuse of failures.
Best of Luck
Story: The Teacher, The Students and The Potatoes
A kindergarten teacher decided to let her class play a game.
The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes.
Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates.
So the number of potatoes that a child will put in his/her plastic bag will depend on the number of
people he/she hates.
So when the day came, each child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she
hated. Some had 2 potatoes; some 3 while some up to 5 potatoes. The teacher then told the
children to carry with them the potatoes in the plastic bag wherever they go (even to the toilet) for 1
week.
Days after days passed by, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out
by the rotten potatoes. Besides, those having 5 potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After 1
week, the children were relieved because the game had finally ended....
The teacher asked: "How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for 1 week?". The children
let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to
carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go. [short story]
Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said: "This is exactly
the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will
contaminate your heart and you will carry it with you wherever you go.
If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what is it like to
have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime???"

Story of Young Son - The Perspective Understanding

The train has started moving. It is packed with people of all ages, mostly with the working men and
women and young college guys and gals. Near the window, seated an old man with his 30 year old
son. As the train moves by, the son is overwhelmed with joy as he was thrilled with the scenery
outside.. "See dad, the scenery of green trees moving away is very beautiful"
This behaviour from a thirty year old son made the other people feel strange about him. Everyone
started murmuring something or other about this son."This guy seems to be a crack..." newly
married Anup whispered to his wife. Suddenly it started raining... Rain drops fell on the travellers
through the open window. The Thirty year old son, filled with joy "see dad, how beautiful the rain is ..
." Anup's wife got irritated with the rain drops spoiling her new suit. Anup," can't you see its raining,

you old man, if your son is not feeling well get him soon to a mental asylum..and don't disturb public
henceforth"
The old man hesitated first and then in a low tone replied " we are on the way back from hospital, my
son got discharged today morning only, he was a blind by birth, last week only he got his vision,
when his mother died she donated her beautiful eyes to him, therefore these rain and nature are
new to his eyes... Please forgive us if we caused inconvenience to you."
And he stood up shifted to the next compartment of the train with his son...........
The things we see may be right from our perspective until we know the truth. But when we know the
truth, our reaction to that will hurt us. So try to understand the problem better before taking a harsh
action.
10 Terrific Self Motivating Tips

No one can motivate anyone to do anything. All a person can do for another is
provide them with incentives to motivate themselves. Here are ten very effective
strategies to help you get up and get moving toward actualizing your enormous,
untapped potential.
* Be willing to leave your comfort zone. The greatest barrier to achieving your
potential is your comfort zone. Great things happen when you make friends with
your discomfort zone.
* Dont be afraid to make mistakes. Wisdom helps us avoid making mistakes and
comes from making a million of them.
* Dont indulge in self-limiting thinking. Think empowering, expansive thoughts.
*Choose to be happy. Happy people are easily motivated. Happiness is your
birthright so dont settle for anything else.
* Spend at least one hour a day in self-development. Read good books or listen to
inspiring tapes. Driving to and from work provides an excellent opportunity to listen
to self-improvement tapes.
* Train yourself to finish what you start. So many of us become scattered as we
try to accomplish a task. Finish one task before you begin another.
* Live fully in the present moment. When you live in the past or the future you
aren't able to make things happen in the present.

* Commit yourself to joy. C.S. Lewis once said, Joy is the serious business of
heaven.
* Never quit when you experience a setback or frustration. Success could be just
around the corner.
* Dare to dream big dreams. If there is anything to the law of expectation then we
are moving in the direction of our dreams, goals and expectations.
The real tragedy in life is not in how much we suffer, but rather in how much we
miss, so dont miss a thing.
Charles Dubois once said, We must be prepared, at any moment, to sacrifice who
we are for who we are capable of becoming.
Relationship Advice: Be Kind to One Another

Unbelievably, kindness is often over simplified. Even good relationships can lack
acts of kindness. This refers to Do unto others Simple acts of kindness can have
huge impacts on a relationship. As an example, if your husband is out working on the
car on a hot summer day, make a thermos of ice-cold tea and take it to him. If
your spouse has been working at the computer all day, walk up behind him/her and
massage him/her shoulders and neck. You get the idea!!!

Kindness means looking at the other person's situation and seeing what
you can do or add to that situation to make it better or easier. This is a
way to validate your respect for each other. Kindness will go a long way in
a relationship.
Weak Managers

Much has been written about the secrets of good management and few will argue
that the best managers are inspired, visionary, dedicated, industrious, energetic,
energizing and display integrity, leadership, common sense and courage. So where is
it that managers commonly fail or falter and lose their precious foothold on the
corporation's top rungs? The following, from the career experts at bayt.com, are
ten of the most basic management traps and tips to avoid them:

Weak managers set weak goals

As a manager your role is to get specific jobs completed by employees in the most
optimal, efficient and innovative manner and in order to do that, you need to set
clear objectives. Successful managers set SMART goals - goals that are specific,
measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based. They are able to communicate
these goals clearly, simply and concisely to their employees so that none are vague
or uncertain about expectations. By all means reach for the stars in your
objectives but to do so without supplying employees with the training, resources,
flexibility and freedom they need to accomplish their goals and a schedule of
regular supervision and feedback is to set them (and yourself) up for failure.

Weak managers micro-manage - effective leaders inspire

The days of command and control organizations are long over - today's managers
recognize that in order to leverage their skills and maximize their team's output
they need to adopt a flexible approach and 'lead' their teams to excellence rather
than closely supervise, instruct and control them. The best leaders communicate to
their employees a vision and ignite in them the fire, motivation and desire to work
towards making this vision a reality. Good leaders unleash their employees to
innovate and achieve optimal solutions by communicating top-level goals and
objectives and a suggested blueprint for success then leaving the employees to
determine how to get there most optimally while ensuring they have the aptitudes,
training, resources and work environment necessary to achieve superior results.
While a program of regular feedback and supervision is essential, managers should
ensure that their management style is not repressive, meddling or overly
overbearing. The golden rule is to communicate the 'what' and the 'why' of the
work that needs to be done and leave the employees to determine the 'how'
without burdening them with strict instruction manuals or prescribed rules and
patterns that are largely redundant and inconducive to speed, creativity, progress
and innovation.

Weak managers are afraid of hiring/cultivating strong leaders

Strong leaders/managers have the self-confidence to hire the best people, take
them to new levels and cultivate in them all the qualities needed to make them in
turn effective leaders of the future. Weak leaders replicate themselves in their
hiring decisions and hire mediocre players, mistakenly believing that an employee
with more skills, acumen or industry knowledge than themselves will ultimately
undermine them or make them look bad. The best managers are characterized by
an ability to stimulate their employees to superior performance and through
coaching, training, feedback as well as by example, inspire in them all the qualities
needed to make effective managers. A good manager helps employees achieve their
full potential and constantly raises the bar so that employees never stop learning,
innovating and growing. Coaching, training, career planning and programs for ongoing
growth and development of key staff are high on the priority lists of the best
managers.

Weak managers belittle their employees

Bosses who favour the archaic 'tough' management style where employees are
singled out for public reprimand and negative feedback is plentiful while
recognition and positive reinforcement are scarce will fail to win the loyalty,
respect and commitment of their teams over the long run. Without an inspired,
fired up, self-confident employee base these managers set themselves and their
teams up for failure. Effective leaders by contrast, respect their employees and
give them regular feedback with intelligent constructive criticism and loudly laud
special accomplishments in both public and private, while communicating any
negative feedback ONLY in private and focusing such criticism strictly on the job
performance, not the person's character. Strong leaders recognize and reward a
job well done. These leaders inspire their teams to perform at their best and are
able to elicit from them a high degree of loyalty and a 'hunger' to raise the bar
and continuously excel. In such organisations, employees are not afraid to challenge
their boss's ideas or upset the status quo in the interest of innovation and
excellence and are encouraged to take risks to elevate the business to a new level.
The autocrats and bureaucrats on the other hand sap their employees' self-

confidence, drive and energy with their overbearing management style and fail to
induce in them any motivation to raise the bar or excel.

Weak managers have obsolete skills-strong leaders constantly reinvent

themselves
In today's knowledge-driven economies and highly competitive environment, skills,
training and education rapidly become obsolete and effective managers know that
they must constantly re-educate themselves and update their skills to maintain an
edge. While over-confident managers with an inertia to further education fall by
the wayside, good managers regularly take an honest inventory of their skills and
abilities and upgrade their technical knowledge and soft skills wherever
appropriate. They encourage their teams to do likewise with sound career planning
and performance appraisal programs and an emphasis on training and selfeducation.
Weak managers have poor communication skills
Good communication includes cultivating and maintaining open channels of
communication with the team and others in the organisation, giving constructive,
intelligent feedback, eliciting ideas through brainstorming sessions or otherwise,
articulating the company vision and mission in no uncertain terms, setting clear
objectives and listening attentively with an open-mind to employees grievances,
suggestions and any other issues. Effective leaders have an open-door policy that
welcomes input, suggestions and feedback from employees and recognize that good
ideas and the next best idea/process/innovation can come from anywhere. Strong
leaders listen; weak leaders talk. Strong leaders pay attention to their employees
and encourage them to express professional opinions and ask for more
responsibility; weak leaders think they are above such open-door policies.
Employees who are not listened to and are not made to feel important or respected
as professionals or individuals are unlikely to innovate or express any exciting new
ideas that can move a company forward.

Weak managers blame

Everybody makes mistakes and strong leaders protect their good people from
taking the fall when they err. Good bosses recognize that the occasional slip-ups
are inevitable and can be learning opportunities and are ready to take personal
responsibility when the team makes a misstep. A good boss realizes that his most
promising employees want to succeed, will grow as a result of their mistakes and
are unlikely to repeat the same mistakes. They do no set their people up as a
negative example for the rest of the organization nor point fingers when the going
gets tough. Good bosses are personably accountable for their actions as well as the
actions of their subordinates and do not allow a culture of blame to permeate the
organisation.
Weak managers take full credit for their team's accomplishments
While weak leaders usurp all the credit for a job well done by their teams, the
strongest leaders will give the full credit to the team as a whole or the team
member responsible for the project. Strong leaders motivate, energize and inspire
by giving credit where credit is due and being generous with reward and
recognition wherever appropriate. Strong leaders publicly thank their employees
for a job well done and recognize that a motivated, successful, energized team will
reflect directly on the boss.

Weak managers thrive on bureaucracy

Weak leaders are fond of, augment and live well with the layers and bureaucratic
shackles that tie an organisation down; strong leaders remove them. Today's
effective leaders recognize that in order to compete they must operate like a
small company with a high level of speed, responsiveness and flexibility. They
realize that to maintain their edge in today's marketplace their organization needs
to be responsive to changing market conditions and remove the shackles,
boundaries, layers, clutter and obsolete policies, procedures and routines that get
in the way of the freedom and free flow of people, resources and ideas.

Weak managers are divorced from their teams

Effective managers genuinely care about their employees and take the time to get
to know them and to understand their strengths, weaknesses, what makes them
tick and their goals and ambitions. They also take the time to learn something
about their personal life. While weak managers will maintain an outdated aloofness
and a formal distance from their teams, exceptional managers are able to bring out
the best in every employee and win their loyalty and respect by understanding
their unique needs, motivations and abilities and showing the team that they are
important and personally significant. Strong managers are team players and
through their constant involvement with their teams communicate to them that
they are there for them and supportive of them. Effective managers by building a
supportive work environment, build a camaraderie and team spirit that enthuses
and excites the team to new levels of performance.
Eleven Things They Did Not Teach in School - Bill Gates

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about eleven things they did not
and will not learn in school.
He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of
kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real
world.
Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to
accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a
vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a
different word for burger flipping: They called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your
mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They

got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk
about how cool you thought you were:
So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try
delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT
. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY
TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
*This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few
employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. (Do that on your own
time.)
Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life, people actually have to leave the
coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
If you can read this...thank a Teacher.
10 Qualities of a Good Manager

RECENTLY I wrote about 10 qualities of a good employee, which prompted quite a

few people to ask about the attributes of a good manager.
There isn't a magic formula for good management, of course, but if you're a
manager, perhaps these tips will help you be more effective:
1 Choose a field thoughtfully. Make it one you enjoy. It's hard to be productive
without enthusiasm. This is true whether you're a manager or employee;
2 Hire carefully. You need a strong team, because a mediocre team gives mediocre
results, no matter how well managed it is. One mistake is holding on to somebody
who doesn't measure up. It's easy to keep this person on the job because he's not
terrible at what he does. But a good manager will replace him or move him to where
he can succeed unambiguously;
3 Create a productive environment. This is a particular challenge because it
requires different approaches depending on the context. Sometimes you maximise
productivity by giving everybody his or her own office. Sometimes you achieve it by
moving everybody into open space. Sometimes you use financial incentives to
stimulate productivity. A combination of approaches is usually required. One
element that almost always increases productivity is providing an information

system that empowers employees.

When I was building Microsoft, I set out to create an environment where software
developers could thrive. I wanted a company where engineers liked to work. I
wanted to create a culture that encouraged them to work together, share ideas and
remain motivated. If I hadn't been a software engineer myself, there's no way I
could have achieved my goal;
4 Define success. Make it clear to your employees what constitutes success and
how they should measure their achievements. Goals must be realistic. Project
schedules, for example, must be set by the people who do the work. People will
accept a "bottoms-up" deadline they helped set, but they'll be cynical about a
schedule imposed from the top that doesn't map to reality. Unachievable goals
undermine an organisation. At my company, in addition to regular team meetings
and one-on-one sessions between managers and employees, we use mass
gatherings periodically and E-mail routinely to communicate what we expect from
employees. If a reviewer or customer chooses another company's product , we
analyse the situation. We say to our people, "The next time around we've got to win.
What's needed?" The answers to these questions help us define success;
5 To be a good manager, you have to like people and be good at communicating.
This is hard to fake. If you don't enjoy interacting with people, it'll be hard to
manage them well. You must have a wide range of personal contacts within your
organisation. You need relationships - not necessarily personal friendships - with a
fair number of people, including your own employees. You must encourage these
people to tell you what's going on and give you feedback about what people are
thinking about the company and your role in it;
6 Develop your people to do their jobs better than you can. Transfer your skills to
them. This is an exciting goal, but it can be threatening to a manager who worries
that he's training his replacement. If you're concerned, ask your boss: "If I develop
somebody who can do my job super well, does the company have some other
challenge for me or not?" Many smart managers like to see their employees
increase their responsibilities because it frees the managers to tackle new or
undone tasks. There's no shortage of jobs for good managers. The world has an
infinite amount of work to be done;
7 Build morale. Make it clear there's plenty of goodwill to go around and that it's not
just you or some hotshot manager who's going to look good if things go well. Give
people a sense of the importance of what they're working on - its importance to the
company, its importance to customers;
8 Take on projects yourself. You need to do more than communicate. The last thing
people want is a boss who just doles out stuff. From time to time, prove you can be
hands-on by taking on one of the less attractive tasks and using it as an example of

how your employees should meet challenges;

9 Don't make the same decision twice. Spend the time and thought to make a solid
decision the first time so that you don't revisit the issue unnecessarily. If you're too
willing to reopen issues, it interferes not only with your execution but also with your
motivation to make a decision in the first place. People hate indecisive leadership;
However, that doesn't mean you have to decide everything the moment it comes to
your attention. Nor that you can't ever reconsider a decision.
10 Let people know whom to please. Maybe it's you, maybe it's your boss, and
maybe it's somebody who works for you. You're in trouble and risking paralysis in
your organization when employees start saying to themselves: "Am I supposed to
be making this person happy or this other person happy? They seem to have
different priorities."
I don't pretend that these are the only 10 approaches a manager should keep in
mind. There are lots of others. Just a month ago I encouraged leaders to demand
bad news before good news from their employees. But these 10 ideas may help you
manage well, and I hope they do.

How to reduce exposure to mobile phone radiation

Is the electromagnetic radiation from our mobile phones harmful? From a scientific standpoint,
the jury is still out. But for those who prefer to be on the safe side, there are a few ways to adapt
ones mobile phone habits to limit exposure.

Keep the phone away from your head

A Bluetooth headset is one of the best ways to reduce exposure, as it allows the user to keep the
source of radiation at a distance. Although this advice is often heard, it is seldom followed. If you
find it tedious to use a Bluetooth headset all the time, try at least to use it on longer calls as well
as during dial-up and the first few seconds of a call, when the phone is emitting its highest level
of radiation.
It is also a good idea to avoid keeping the mobile phone turned on all night and sitting on the
nightstand next to your pillow.

Limit use in low-reception situations

When the reception signal is poor, the phone compensates by turning up the strength of the
signals it emits. Consequently, it is recommended to limit the length of calls in places where

reception is limited: underground parking lots, in rural areas far away from phone towers, or in
cars (even while stopped).
Also, avoid using a mobile phone on a rapidly moving train or bus, as the passage between
different cell towers along the route similarly causes the phone to turn up its signal emission.

Practice extra caution with and around children

Since children's bodies are still developing, they could be more susceptible than adults to any
potential negative effects of electromagnetic radiation. Parents should delay giving children their
own mobile phones until it is absolutely necessary and limit the time a child spends using the
device.

Don't waste your money on anti-radiation devices

Several shops and websites offer gadgets that claim to protect phone users from electromagnetic
radiation. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these devices do not live up to their claims,
according to a series of tests conducted by the French National Agency for Health Safety
(ANSES). In particular, the anti-radiation stickers designed to be stuck on the back of a mobile
phone have absolutely no impact.
On the other hand, some anti-radiation phone cases have been shown to limit the user's
absorption of the phone's rays, but they make it nearly impossible to receive or make a call.
Win People to Your Way of Thinking

The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.

Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."
If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
Begin in a friendly way.
Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.
Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
Appeal to the nobler motives.
Dramatize your ideas.
Throw down a challenge.

Story: The Wow approach

Last spring I was walking in a park. A short distance ahead of me was a mom and
her three-year-old daughter. The little girl was holding on to a string that was
attached to a helium balloon.
All of a sudden, a sharp gust of wind took the balloon from the little girl. I braced
myself for some screaming and crying.
But, no! As the little girl turned to watch her balloon go skyward, she gleefully
shouted out, "Wow!"
I didn't realize it at that moment, but that little girl taught me
something.
Later that day, I received a phone call from a person with news of an unexpected
problem. I felt like responding with "Oh no, what should we do?" But remembering
that little girl, I found myself saying, "Wow, that's interesting! How can I help
you?"
One thing's for sure - life's always going to keep us off balance with its
unexpected problems. That's a given. What's not preordained is our response. We
can choose to be frustrated or fascinated.
No matter what the situation, a fascinated "Wow!" will always beat a frustrated
"Oh, no."
So the next time you experience one of life's unexpected gusts, remember that
little girl and make it a "Wow!" experience. The "Wow!" response always works
How to Determine if an Egg is Fresh

Fresh egg is considered to be a very important ingredient when you are

baking something scrumptious and savory on special occasions for your
family. But what is the worst thing that could happen to you while preparing
your delicious meal? Finding out that the egg you just added-in is not fresh
rather it is a bad egg and now you have to discard all the material, you have
been working on so diligently thats not only annoying but equally awful as
well as it leads to wastage of time, material and money.

But do you know this situation can be keep from happening if you could
determine the freshness of eggs before adding them into the material. Yes

this could be done very easily at home as there are various methods
available to test the freshness of an egg.

Now without wasting any time, lets move to the next section where different
measures are listed to check whether an egg is good to consume or not.

Water and bowl test for freshness

Follow the below mentioned instruction to pull of this test:

1. Get a bowl which should be deep enough to contain water twice the size of an egg so it
could be soaked completely into it
2. Carefully put and lower egg into the bowl

Now there are 4 possibilities which can happen:

If an egg immediately sinks to the bottom and lies flat on the side of it then this means
that the air cell within the egg is very small; hence it is fresh and perfectly fine to use.

If an egg is slightly older than it will lie on the bottom of bowl but in a different angle.
Moreover it will also bob-up and down rather than being still

If the egg begins to float and stand upright in a way where smaller end will look at the
bottom of bowl whilst broader end looks upward towards the surface then you could say
this egg is still good to consume; however, it is about 3 weeks old now and due to the
entrance of more air in the egg shell, it has started to lose its freshness

When you see that the egg you put into the bowl has begun to float on the surface and it
does not touch the bottom of that bowl then it can be concluded that, it is a bad egg and
should be discarded at once. Bad eggs tend to give pungent smell and they are also very
light weighted

Why this test works?

This test works because eggshells are very porous and when more air enters
the shell then its life begins to diminish. The more air enters the egg the
more less-favorable-to-eat it becomes.

Cracked egg and plate test

To do this test, you would have to break the egg into a flat plate or flat
surface instead of soaking or breaking it into a deep bowl. If the egg is fresh
then:

Yolk of the egg would have round and compact appearance while it will also be in still
position. Moreover, the white of the egg which is also known as albumen will be thick
and it would also stay closer to the yolk

If the albumen has cloudy coloring then it means the egg is extra fresh as this cloudiness
indicates the presence of carbon dioxide in it. However, the egg white tends to become
more transparent with time due to the dispelling of carbon dioxide

If you see the yolk is flatter which could be broken easily and which also has thinner
white, spreading quite easily far over the plate then this means, it is a less fresh egg

Lastly, bad egg would have a flat yolk and its albumen will be runny just like water. if
this is the case then egg should be discarded and not to be consumed

Sloshing test
Another test to check the freshness of an egg is through slushiness. Now
what you need to do to conduct this test?

Pick up an egg and bring it close to your ear

Shake the egg

Now determine what kind of sounds you hear when shaken? If the sound is sloshy then it
is a bad egg, you can discard it else if the sound is not sloshy then you can consume it

It is that simple!

Blood Spots in egg

At times what happens, when you break an egg then you realize there are
some reddish brownish spots in it which are also known as blood or meat

spots. People often tend to avoid eating such kind of eggs but to break the
ice, let me tell you that such eggs are safe to eat as these eggs show the
particular freshness of them as the redness fades with age. Moreover, these
tiny spots only represent blood vessels which have been ruptured when egg
formed.

Story: The Great Brother

I was born in a secluded village on a mountain. Day after day, my parents plowed the yellow dry soil
with their backs towards the sky.
One day, I wanted to buy a handkerchief, which all girls around me seemed to have. So, one day I
stole 50 cents from my father's drawer. Father discovered about the stolen money right away.
'Who stole the money?' he asked my brother and me.
I was stunned, too afraid to talk. Neither of us admitted to the fault, so he said, 'Fine, if nobody wants
to admit, you both should be punished!' Suddenly, my younger brother gripped Father's hand and
said, 'Dad, I was the one who did it!' He took the blame, and punishment, for me.
In the middle of the night, all of sudden, I cried out loudly. My brother covered my mouth with his little
hand and said, 'Sis, now don't cry anymore. Everything has happened.' I will never forget my
brother's expression when he protected me. That year, my brother was 6 years old and I was 11
years old. I still hate myself for not having enough courage to admit what I did. Years went by, but
the incident still seemed like it just happened yesterday.
When my brother was in his last year of secondary school, he was accepted in an upper secondary
school in the central part of town. At the same time, I was accepted into a university in the province.
That night, Father squatted in the yard, smoking packet by packet. I could hear him ask my mother,
'Both of our children, they have good results? Very good results?'
Mother wiped off her tears and sighed, 'What is the use? How can we possibly finance both of
them?'
At that time, my brother walked out, he stood in front of Father and said, 'Dad, I don't want to
continue my study anymore, I have read enough books.' Father became angry.
'Why do you have a spirit so weak? Even if it means I have to beg for money on the streets, I will
send you two to school until you have both finished your studies!' And then, he started to knock on
every house in the village to borrow money.
I told him, 'A boy has to continue his study. If not, he will not be able to overcome this poverty we are
experiencing.' I, on the other hand, had decided not to further my study at the university.
Nobody knew that on the next day, before dawn, my brother left the house with a few pieces of wornout clothes and a few dry beans. He sneaked to my side of the bed and left a note on my pillow; 'Sis,
getting into a university is not easy. I will go find a job and I will send money to you.' I held the note
while sitting on my bed, and cried until I lost my voice.
With the money father borrowed from the whole village, and the money my brother earned from
carrying cement on his back at a construction site, finally, I managed to get to the third year of my
study in the university. That year, my brother was 17 years old; I was 20 years old.
One day, while I was studying in my room, my roommate came in and told me, 'There's a villager
waiting for you outside!' Why would there be a villager looking for me? I walked out, and I saw my
brother from afar. His whole body was covered with dirt, dust, cement and sand. I asked him, 'Why
did you not tell my roommate that you are my brother?'
He replied with a smile, 'Look at my appearance. What will they think if they would know that I am
your brother? Won't they laugh at you?'
I felt so touched, and tears filled my eyes. And told him with a lump in my throat, 'I don't care what

people would say! You are my brother no matter what your appearance.'
From his pocket, he took out a butterfly hair clip. He gave me and said, 'I saw all the girls in town are
wearing it. I think you should also have one.' That year, my brother was 20 years old; I was 23 years
old.
After I got married, I lived in the city. Many times my husband invited my parents to come and live
with us, but they didn't want. They said once they left the village, they wouldn't know what to do. My
brother agreed with them. He said, 'Sis, you just take care of your parents-in-law. I will take care of
Mom and Dad here.'
My husband became the directors of his factory. We asked my brother to accept the offer of being
the manager in the maintenance department. But my brother rejected the offer. He insisted on
working as a repairman instead for a start.
One day, my brother was on the top of a ladder repairing a cable, when he got electrocuted, and was
sent to the hospital. My husband and I visited him at the hospital. Looking at the plaster cast on his
leg, I grumbled, 'Why did you reject the offer of being a manager? Managers won't do something
dangerous like that. Now look at you you are suffering a serious injury. Why didn't you just listen to
us?'
With a serious expression on his face, he defended his decision, 'Think of your brother-in-law, he just
became the director. If I, being uneducated, would become a manager, what kind of rumors would fly
around?'
My husband's eyes filled up with tears, and then I said, 'But you lack in education only because of
me!'
'Why do you talk about the past?' he said and then he held my hand. That year, he was 26 years old
and I was 29 years old.
My brother was 30 years old when he married a farmer girl from the village. During the wedding
reception, the master of ceremonies asked him, 'Who is the one person you respect and love the
most?'
Without even taking a time to think, he answered,' My sister.' He continued by telling a story I could
not even remember. 'When I was in primary school, the school was in a different village. Everyday,
my sister and I would walk for 2 hours to school and back home. One day, I lost one of my gloves.
My sister gave me one of hers. She wore only one glove and she had to walk far. When we got
home, her hands were trembling because of the cold weather. She could not even hold her
chopsticks. From that day on, I swore that as long as I lived, I would take care of my sister and
would always be good to her.'
Applause filled up the room. All guests turned their attention to me. I found it hard to speak, 'In my
whole life, the one I would like to thank most is my brother,' And in this happy occasion, in front of the
crowd, tears were rolling down my face again.
Love and care for the one you love every single day of your life. You may think what you did is just a
small deed, but to that someone, it may mean a lot.

Story: The Woman and the Bread

_ A woman baked chapatti (roti) for members of her family and an extra one for a
hungry passerby. She kept the extra chapatti on the window sill, for whosoever
would take it away. Every day, a hunchback came and took away the chapatti.
Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went his
way: "The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" This
went on, day after day. Every day, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and
uttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back
to you!" The woman felt irritated. "Not a word of gratitude," she said to herself...
"Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?" One day,
exasperated, she decided to do away with him. "I shall get rid of this hunchback,"
she said. And what did she do? She added poison to the chapatti she prepared for
him! As she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. "What is
this I am doing?" she said. Immediately, she threw the chapatti into the fire,
prepared another one and kept it on the window sill. As usual, the hunchback came,
picked up the chapatti and muttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you:
The good you do, comes back to you!" The hunchback proceeded on his way,
blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman.

Every day, as the woman placed the chapatti on the window sill, she offered a
prayer for her son who had gone to a distant place to seek his fortune. For many
months, she had no news of him.. She prayed for his safe return. That evening,
there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son
standing in the doorway. He had grown thin and lean. His garments were tattered
and torn. He was hungry, starved and weak. As he saw his mother, he said, "Mom,
it's a miracle I'm here. While I was but a mile away, I was so famished that I
collapsed. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. I begged of
him for a morsel of food, and he was kind enough to give me a whole chapatti. As he
gave it to me, he said, "This is what I eat everyday: today, I shall give it to you, for
your need is greater than mine!" " As the mother heard those words, her face
turned pale.

She leaned against the door for support. She remembered the poisoned chapatti
that she had made that morning. Had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have

been eaten by her own son, and he would have lost his life! It was then that she
realized the significance of the words:
"The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
Do good and Don't ever stop doing good, even if it is not appreciated at that time.
If you like this, share it with others and I bet so many lives would be touched
