SECOND SUNDAY OF GREAT LENT

ST GREGORY PALAMAS

Oti Si i Monos Agios, Si i Monos Kyrios, For

Iisous Hristos, is Doxan Theou Patros

Amin.
Kath ekastin
On the Second Sunday of Great Lent we Commemorate one of our great
Holy Church Fathers - St Gregory Palamas. (+1359)
Todays theme concerns the fact that we can all become Deified i.e. we
can all attain Theosis or Spiritual Perfection by the Grace and Will of
God the Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ and by the Power and
Energy of the Holy Spirit.
St Gregory Palamas bore witness that by Prayer and Fasting human beings
can actually become participants of the Uncreated Light of Gods Divine
Glory even in this temporary, earthly life.
After his Glorification in 1368, a second Commemoration of St Gregory
Palamas was appointed for this Second Sunday of Great Lent as a
Second Triumph of Orthodoxy since we celebrate the condemnation of
St Gregorys enemies and the vindication of his Teachings by the Holy
Church of Christ.
