We turn left on Gregory Way and pass
La Cienega Park. Cudworth tells me that
later in the night he will walk through the
park and patrol the area.
8:20 pm
Cudworth decides to join his beat partner,
Officer Alex Duncan, who has identified a
traffic violation. We reach a parking lot
behind a tanning salon, where the vehicle
in question is parked; Duncan is speaking
with the owner. We soon learn that the car
has not been registered in over three years.

Cudworth tells me that if a cars registration has been expired for more than six
months in California, it can be towed. The
vehicle owner also gets ticketed because
his car is expired.
8:30 pm
Cudworth and I leave the scene soon
after the tow truck arrives.
8:40 pm
Dispatch notifies Cudworth of a call
made about a parked black van with a
scrolling marquee advertising liquor. We
circle the area for around five minutes but
are unable to find the vehicle. The incident
is labeled GOA, or Gone On Arrival.

8:50 pm
I learn that Cudworths father works
as a training coordinator for the LAPD,
which oversees around 10,000 officers.
Comparatively, the BHPD represents
around 120 sworn officers.
9:10 pm
Cudworth spots a transient breaking a
municipal code by drinking an alcoholic
beverage from a brown paper bag. He is
standing near the newly opened Crme
de le Crepe on West Olympic Boulevard.
Seconds before being approached by
Cudworth, the individual tosses the alcoholic beverage into a nearby planter and
then denies that he had been drinking.
Cudworth issues a citation.

Crme De La Crepe arrives in Beverly Hills

Francois Buschaud moved to Los Angeles on January 3, just two days after quitting his
job as an Air France flight attendant. On February 6, he unveiled Crme De La Crepe, a
restaurant and creperie located on W Olympic Blvd.
I wanted to open my own business with a small team in the kitchen and a small team
in the dining room, Buschaud said.
Buschaud, who hails from Normandy, said he fell in love with the Beverly Hills storefront while scouting locations for his caf.
I fell in love because I like the area, but in the beginning I wasnt thinking of being
in Beverly Hillsits more like a dream to be in Beverly Hills, Buschaud said. The
people are very nice to me and Im very impressed by the relationship I have with my
customers.
Crme De La Crepe is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Menu items
include burgers, salads, sandwiches and sweet and savory crepes.

A law authored by Pan requiring parents

who utilize the personal belief exemption to
first talk with a licensed health care practitioner has been in effect the past year.
California will join 32 other states that
dont allow parents to opt out of vaccination
requirements using a personal belief exemption if this legislation is passed.

We arrive back at the police station and
I thank Cudworth for letting me tag along
with him on his shift. He resumes the rest
of his shift accompanied by Duncan. For
me, the evening was notably eventful. But
for the BHPD, it was just another night on
the beat.

Board approves increase in

construction value for SSMPrelated work
The Board of Education approved the
increase of construction value for SSMPrelated destructive testing and repair work
for BHUSD-wide materials testing and
inspection services with a 4-1 vote at their
meeting Tuesday night. Board member
Noah Margo dissented.
The cost of this work at El Rodeo is
projected to total $120,000. The cost of the
work for all four schools is estimated to not
exceed $575,000.
Margo advocated for a new, robust bond

measure that can sustain all long-term construction goals.

After several quite laborious study
sessions it has been made quite clear that
no matter what direction this Board takes
in relation to accessing our total available
capacity of our taxes, the [BHUSD] will
not have enough funds to complete all of
the planned projects for all of our sites,
Margo said. What we were also told is that
there will not be enough funds to complete
the current high school in its entirely; all of
this making a new bond measure necessary
regardless of the case.
The work planned for El Rodeo has
proven more costly than originally expected
due to a large quantity of inspections and
tests of samples from concrete walls, concrete footings, steel framing, metal decking,
wood framing and masonry walls.
