Process

5.1. Planning is an important step for progress of the project, planning


the work activities to be carried out helps in;
Identifying the approximate time duration required to complete
the project,
Identifying the quantity of work to be done for each activity to get
complete,
Identifying the material requirement for each activity,
Identifying approximate manpower, plants, machineries and
equipments required to be deployed for each work activity,
It helps in identifying the capital required to be invested during
various phase of the works,
It helps in doing work in a systematic manner,
It helps in rescheduling the work due to changes and delays,
It helps in finding implications of changes in case of changes and
delays in terms of time and cost.
5.2. The stepwise process of planning is to be carried out for a project as

Process:

Identify the scope of work


Identify the key elements of the plan
Determine the overall duration stage wise
Determine the budget
Prepare the Master Project Schedule i.e. LEVEL I
Identify the package wise break-up of the Master Project Schedule
Prepare the phase wise plan i.e. LEVEL II
Identify the resources requirement & available
Identify the package wise main phases in the plan.
Determine package wise cost.
Prepare the plan i.e. LEVEL III
Determine the detailed break-up of the packages.
Assign the resources & cost.
Determine the level wise details required.
Prepare the plan i.e. is LEVEL IV.
Level III & IV program to be agreed by all the stake holders
Plan communicated at site level for execution.
o Same time derive 3 months look-ahead plan for updates.
Identify the team, which needs to be updated periodically on the status.
A global calendar to be issued to site on the various updates consisting following
o Schedule updates on 1st Friday of every month
o Resources updates on 2nd Monday of every month
o Cost update on 2 Friday of every month
o Various updates send to stake holders by the planning department
Monitoring of the project to be done on following 3 parameters
o Schedule (Time)
o Resources (Items)
o Cost
Planning department receives updates from site on weekly/fortnightly & monthly basis is
prescribed formats.
Planning department prepares summary reports & graphical reports as per attached
formats.
