CHAPTER V

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTION


In this chapter, the researcher wants to make conclusions and gives some
suggestions.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis, the researcher drew some conclusions as
follows:
1. Students

achievement

in

learning

vocabulary

through

idioms

comprehension
Based on the analysis of the data in pre- test in which the students
have not been taught through idioms comprehension in learning
vocabulary, the mean of the pre- test score is 55,2. Percentage criterion
calculation is 55, 2% and belongs to poor criterion.
Meanwhile, the analysis of the result of the post test showed that
the mean of the score is 85, 3. Percentage of the criterion calculation is 85,
3% and it has good criterion. Post test itself was given to the students after
explaining the material idioms comprehension and giving the examples of
idioms types wholly to the students before they did the test.
As the conclusion, the students achievement in learning
vocabulary can be increased by using idioms comprehension. It means that
the use idiom gives an effective contribution in learning vocabulary. So
far, it can influence the students achievement in vocabulary mastery.
2. General difficulties are faced by the students in learning vocabulary
through idioms comprehension
The commonest factor of the students difficulty is what the
meaning of idiomatic words, expressions are. Generally, idioms have a

special meaning which cannot be understood by translating the meaning


word by word. It means that in learning vocabulary especially about
idioms, the learners have to be familiar about idioms and increase their
vocabulary.
3. Solutions of the difficulties
There are some possible ways can be taken by the students to face
the difficulties in learning vocabulary through idioms comprehension.
Actually, the goal of the learning is to enrich their vocabularies, so the
easiest way is by memorizing the idioms through improving their reading
skills. The students should be familiar with idioms by memorizing and
applying the words in English learning activities, whether writing or
speaking activities. The students should not be lazy to open dictionaries
when they found new words, a new expressions, or phrases. They can ask
their teachers about it. In this case, the students are recommended not be
shy to ask about everything to their teachers.
B. Suggestion
By looking at the result of the research, the researcher gives some
suggestions as follows:
1. To the teacher
a. The teacher should apply better methods in teaching about idioms
comprehension

and

gives

more

exercises

about

idioms

comprehension.
b. The teacher should give motivation to the students and ask them to
like reading a book to enrich their vocabularies.
c. The teacher should give approach to the students in order to
motivate them not to be shy asking their difficulties to their teacher.
2. To the students

a. Students must pay special attentions to idioms in order to be more


familiar with idioms.
a. Enrich their vocabulary especially about idioms step by step by
reading activities and memorize some of them.
b. Apply the words in learning English whether writing or speaking
activities.
c. Make a note book and write every vocabulary and try to translate it.
d. The students should not be lazy to bring a dictionary, so it would be
easier to find out the meaning of the word they found.
e. Ask the teachers when you find difficulty whether in pronounce the
words, the meaning of the words, or the synonyms and antonyms of
the words.
3. To the readers
a. The readers should study more about idioms from many resources
such as books, tabloids, newspaper, internet or television. Besides
improving their vocabulary and how to use idioms in language so
that they can be more familiar with many words.
b. The readers should study more by memorizing and applying the
words. It will be easier to understand the words.
4. To the writer
There are some factors, which cause the success of the students
in mastering vocabulary through idioms comprehension. However, this
study only covers limited number of students to the writer expects there
will be follow up studies which can support this study. The researcher is
expected this study to provide a positive contribution to the students
and the writer herself.
